And Noah played flat out ridiculous. I just kept laughing everytime he hit yet ANOTHER shot. What a game for him.

p.s. Besides Carlino's shots, which only two or three were bad, BYU took more brick threes under Cusick, had more turnovers under Cusick, etc. Our half court offense (which looked maybe the best it has looked all year, especially with King Noah hitting everything with 30 feet of the basket) still is only average.

BYU scores getting up and down the court. They don't do that under Cusick.

Half court offense is our only threat this year, and Noah Hartsock is our best player by a mile. It's no surprise we were losing badly when we were not running a half court offense.

You may have thought Noah's game was ridiculous, but it's been ridiculously ridiculous all year long. His consistency is the only thing that's kept this team from being a 500 team. The point guards only job should be to get the ball up the court and into Hartsock's hands.

Hawk, I have been Noahs biggest fan this year, tying with you.

When everyone was going on about Davies 3 games into the season I was there posting that Davies was inconsistent, foul prone, and about Noah being our best player. I meant ridiculous in that freak-of-nature type way.

Half court is not our only offense this year. Carlino runs the transition very well, and transition is BYU's offense. SEE: every year dave rose has been successful @ BYU. He recruits for transition and shooting. Not for halfcourt offense. Noah was recruited because he is a good shooter. He started playing his way into the offense when he started shooting the 3 last year off of Jimmer doubles and triples. Not by the half court offense. The Noah half court is good, and I agree we should go to it early and often. But we should also try to break the ball up court. We win when we do, and we lose when we don't.

Every time we can't get a fast break point, it should go to Noah. He is our only hope for an average or better halfcourt offense.

The most frustrating thing was not being able to handle the press in those last couple of minutes. Breaking a press should be the easiest thing for any college team; if I were a coach I would drool if a team decided to press. The fact our kids couldn't handle it only points to their maturity level. They are young and learning. I guarantee they are paying for their mistakes in practice today; and Rose and Co. will have done their job well if we don't get stuck by a press the rest of the year.

I'll take the frustrating win; the team will learn from it because we have great coaches. I am excited to see different players step up to be difference-makers (Cusick last night).

Loving the team, but I do want to see more fire and hustle overall.

Rise and shout.

Blueis, just to clarify, I know what you meant by ridiculous, sorry if you got the impression I thought you were using ridiculous in a negative sense.

I like the idea of BYU pushing the ball up the floor in a fast pace, that's fine. But I really feel like our offense is a half court offense this year, and it seems to me that we have more success over sustained periods of time when we run our half court offense then when we play run 'n gun.

Agree to disagree here :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Noah offense when we go to it. He is money money money. I can't overstate how good of a shooter he is at this point.

I think the best we have looked this year is getting out in the spread, without turnovers. BYU was lights out and flowing the first 5-7 mins Carlino was in. (started out 7 for 10 field goals, and almost all of that came FROM Carlino IN TRANSITION. He had 4 assists in the first 4 or 5 minutes.) That, to me, is when BYU looks their best. Good teams will beat Noah and our half court set once in a while. Especially if Noah isn't shooting at a high clip.

But that run and gun was impressive last night. Elite, top 10 teams will have a problem keeping up with that pace and tempo for even a half. We are bred to do that for 40 mins here at BYU. Last night was a glimmer of what we can be. Hopefully as soon as this year. I think more emphasis obviously needs to go on Noah, but we don't need to stop pressing either. If Abuou doesn't go ice cold after scoring 7 points, that game isn't in question. Carlino got him 4 or 5 more open looks before he was pulled for Cusick and we stopped running.

Carlino is a stud. No doubt about it. He's still learning when to run n gun or take some time and get Noah/Davies the ball. He's better than cusiçk by a mile. Just not as efficient... yet.

Cusik saved our butt with 3-3 from 3-land. He ran perfectly the inside out game which involves throwing it into the post players and if the opposition doubles down on them, they kick it out to guard for shot at 3. Where he suffered was handling the press (our achilles heel to this point) - which is why they brought in Winder - who also was big time by hitting 2 FT to keep the game out of reach.

Carlino and Abouo seemed to ignore the inside out game and were jacking up outside shots to no avail. Actually took us out of our game. Noah had 3-4 touches in the first half -and was being ignored.

Rose apparently had a talk with the boys during half-time as the game plan changed. Again, nothing wrong with Carlino when he is on - when he is not and continues to shoot from the outside without utilizing the bigs, we get out of rythmn. Abouo needs to focus on slashing to the basket and drawing the foul or hitting the layup. He was very effective with this approach against Baylor. When he hits these shots, his confidence goes up and he strokes the ball better from outside.

The two most consistent players of late are Harstock and Davies - we should run the offense through them in order to maxmize our production and efficiency.

Cusick also ignored the inside out game during the first half. Carlino had as much to do with getting Noah the ball in the second half as Cusick. It was obviously an emphasis. Cusick doesn't really ever have the ball to get it into the post, even when in and playing point. He gives it to the wing within about 2 seconds of crossing the halfcourt stripe.

There was no game plan in the first half and it showed. In the 2nd half we came out much more focused.

No doubt, I love me some Carlino. But in this game, Cusick was 3-for-3 from deep. Carlino was 1-for-7.

Not taking away from Cusick. The good was good, the bad was bad. All things considered, he helped us win the game, and almost became a huge contributor to us losing it.
