The key positive is how we executed offensively down the stretch.

BYU got screwed on a terrible call. Apparently VT players haven't seen those "Sportsmanship" commercials that the MTN West did because they lied about who touched the ball last! But we dodged a major bullet there at the end.

I think it's at least obvious and clear now that a BYU offense that doesn't run through Noah Hartsock is an anemic offense and will only lead to losing.

is that not reviewable?

I think the only reviewable things are whether a shot is 2 or 3, who shoots FT, and whether a shot got off in time.

I can't handle these kinds of games any more. I'm getting too old. I'm laying here in a heap.

Congrats Cougs on first win at the home of an ACC foe.

Horrific shooting and losing the rebound battle on the road spells defeat .....except tonight !! It is fun to see the guys find a way to win when if you just look at the stats we lose

That game summed up Noah Hartsock and his importance to this team. Dare I say we're a .500 team without him.

He is still not touching the ball enough on offense

If you had told me we'd shoot 21% from three, I'd have thought we'd have lost by double digits. GREAT job on free throws and limiting turnovers.

when are we going to come out of this shooting slump for a whole game? It's crazy. Saturday would be good.

Do I remember correctly that VTech hasn't given up 70 points all year.

Hadn't, now.

BYU and UNC. Pretty good company.

I breathed the biggest sigh of relief after that game. Got some looks from my fellow train commuters.

I was thinking before Noah made that inbounds pass, "Don't pass it to Zylstra. He bobbles it every time."

Way to dig deep Cougs. Made the baskets down the stretch. Hopefully the slump is over and we can shoot at least 45% against SMC.

a win is a win. Even if you kill half your fan base with exploding hearts from radical changes in blood pressure.

I wonder where Carlino went. I hope he comes back.

Freshman wall?

also. I know virginia tech isn't great...but this was also our first EVER win in an ACC arena. That's impressive. Kind of like winning against Ole Miss to claim SEC victories..

I'll take it.

Considering this is Zylstras first real season, Carlino's first, Cusick's first and Winder's I think you may be onto something.

Tonight showed that Winder should be eating into Carlino & Cusick's minutes--even if it's just for his defense. BYU is so much stronger with him out there on defense and he has more offensive game than Cusick (and Carlino as of late). Seems like Rose has forgotten about him for a while--Give the guy some more playing time.

I think that is extremely generous.

Without Noah Hartsock BYU's win/loss record would likely be flipped, maybe a .10 - .25 team.

Silver lining in what was a very close game - our freshmen were put in high pressure situations and did well (Austin subbing for foul-prone Davies - 6 pts, 4 rebounds; Winder 3 points - critical 1-2 FT, and 3 steals; Harrison 3 points in 2nd half). Zylstra had the best 1-5 3pt. game of the night - big time get.

I think we are ready for SM after this game as we looked pressure in the eye and didn't blink. We should be quite confident. However, our 3pt shooting from Abouo, Zylstra and Carlino needs to pick up and soon. Note Cusick wasn't in towards end of game - we went athletic with Winder. I expect to see more of Winder and Harrison against SM in order to pressure their outside shooters, and Austin to play powerball inside.

Sadly, SM's guards will eat us alive. I expect we will lose by double digits. We still can't beat good guard play. Nothing I saw tonight makes me believe we'll be able to go toe to toe with the best guards in the WCC.

Craigo called Hartsock two years ago and predicted this. Craig - why have you not been tooting your horn and reminding us. I bring this up, because others could not see that potential in Noah back then. So don't write off these young bucks on this time. They are young. Noah was young. Now Noah is money and exceeding expectations of most people. It is called heart and experience and effort.
