Condi playing hard-to-get during the primary season is a brilliant master-stroke if the VP slot is offered to her. She's created a position where the moral exigency of saving the United States would "force" her back into politics after her extended absence.

Condi would be a disaster. Obama is blaming the economic woes on Bush and is trying to portray Romney as wanting to return to the failed Bush policies.

Picking Condi allows him to do exactly that. It allows the president to essentially re-run the 2008 campaign.

Except that as Secretary of State she had no role in Bush's economic policies.

Except that she was also his National Security Adviser. So she's tied even closer to the Bush administration. You think Pres. Obama cares how much economic input she had? The man and his campaign are liars.

Obama is also trying to paint Romney as a rich white man who is out of touch--does that mean all rich white men are off the table for VP nominations?

Here are Peggy Noonan's pluses for Rice:

- A public figure of obvious and nameable accomplishment whose attainments can't be taken away from her.

- Washington experience—she wouldn't be learning on the job.

- Never run for office but no political novice.

- An academic, but not ethereal or abstract.

- A woman in a year when Republicans aren't supposed to choose a woman because of what is now called the 2008 experience—so the choice would have a certain boldness.

- A black woman in a campaign that always threatens to take on a painful racial overlay.

- A foreign-policy professional acquainted with everyone who's reigned or been rising the past 20 years.

I'm sorry, but the "she worked with Bush" thing comes across as strained, especially when team Obama is now trying to avoid blaming Bush anymore as it's backfired in focus group results. She's also much MUCH more qualified for an executive White House position than anyone else I've seen being vetted. Even if Obama tries the Bush angle, he's got an uphill climb given Rice's 66% favorable (24% unfavorable) rating.

I think a Romney Rice ticket would be sweet and I'd be very enthused to vote for it. However, I'm already part of the base. It all depends on if it would bring in independents and swing states.

I have been a Condoleeza Rice fan for years. I was pulling for her to be the VP as soon as it looked like Mitt would wrap up the GOP nomination.

Condoleeza has several things going for her ~

1. Brilliant. Not "bright" as in Obama bright - genuine brilliant.

2. Experienced to the point of having "gravitas" when she speaks. Kind of like Dick Cheney gravitas.

3. Condi crushes people that debate her. Her grasp of issues, facts, inside info, seeing complex issues clearly and cutting to the core problems at hand - unequaled.

4. Independents would love to see Condi in there.

5. Black, female, Conservative, tough - Bam!

6. Condi will be the American Margaret Thatcher - our own Iron Lady.

7. Not to mention the appeal to women - both single and married. (Romney is currently getting killed among single women)

8. Finally - the appeal to minorities - all minorities. If Romney can just make a dent in the near monopoly that Obama has there, with a Mitt & Condi ticket. Every bit helps.

I hope Condi backs off all those "I'm not interested in being the VP" statements when Mitt offers her the position. This is very exciting to me - an unbeatable ticket IMHO.
