He doesn't suck, here are his season stats from ESPN:

SEASON AVERAGES 2011-12

MIN FGM-FGA FG% 3PM-3PA 3P% FTM-FTA FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS

27.5 4.5-11.0 .409 1.7-5.0 .333 1.8-2.3 .750 3.0 4.6 0.3 1.4 2.3 2.9 12.4

As a freshman he did great.if he regresses and and starts putting up the worst stats of any Starting BYU point guard ever, then I will start calling for him to transfer to Kansas ;)

Not any more impressive than Carlino's stats?

If a guy (any guy) goes 4-17 from the floor, 1-7 from three, gets 13 points, and posts a 6-11 assist-to-turnover ratio in 52 minutes with a tournament +/- of -28 (a -42 Roland Rating to boot) as a point guard in the NCAA tournament, I have no problem with someone observing that he sucks.

Boy did Jimmer suck a sucky suck in his last NCAA Tourny game. What a sucky suck he is. Suck.

Are you honestly comparing Jimmer's last game to Carlino's last two? With a straight face you really think Carlino against Marquette and Iona was reminiscent of Jimmer against Florida?

Jimmer went 11-29, 3-15 from three, 32 points, 5 assists, 6 TOs, in 44 minutes. He had a plus/minus of -11, and a RR of -13. A bad game yes, but far from the realm of suckage that Carlino managed to put on display.

Now we know why howland wanted him as a two guard.

Jimmer also strained a calf muscle late in the first half and was basically playing at half strength the remainder of the game. That is why he couldn't get any lift on his jump shot (especially on the 3s).

He almost cost us the game Tuesday and he committed horrible turnovers that got us into another large hole today. Cusick > Carlino

Edit: Before anyone jumps down my throat, I don't hate the kid or anything, and I know it obviously wasn't just him hurting us, but those turnovers are killers.

Just to be fair, you suck. I can't believe you are a BLUEshirt and made such a stupid comment. You single handedly brought the quality of this message board down until this post moves off the front page. Way to go.

Yeah, a freshman who makes mistakes...Sucks

Yeah, a coach who takes a team, that lost two of the top 3 guards the progam has ever had, back to the NCAA tournament and is forced to chose between starting a freshman or a walk on...Sucks

Yeah, a player that took off a knee brace and risked further injury in order to effectively contribute in important late season games...Sucks

And yes, a fan that whines about mistakes made by a team that was working hard to make something happen against a very good Marquette team...Sucks

Maybe next year everyone won't Suck quite as much.

I love it! You watch one BYU basketball game, and that gives you the authority to say that without a doubt someone "sucks."

Yeah, the 3rd best player on our team "sucks." That makes sense  :skeptic:

He was the leading assist man on the team, played ten less games than everyone else, and PLAYED AGAINST BETTER COMPETITION for all of those games (No BYU Hawaii, or Nobody State Intramural school to pad those stats the first 10 games of the season.)

He averaged in the regular season, as an 18 year old freshman point guard:

12.7 ppg (3rd best), 4.75 apg (1st), 3.1 rpg (6th) 41% from the field (7th), 35% from 3 (5th), 1.4 spg (1st), .3 blocks (5th) and 2.82 turnovers per game.

He also shot 75% from the line (2nd best)

He was also one of the best man defenders that we had out there, regularly guarding the most athletic guy on the floor (or the "next quickest guy" when Abuou was in.)

That you expected more out of a freshman point guard in the tourney against better competition and athleticism, goes against you. Did he come apart in the tourney? Sure. But name me a BYU player that played a great tournament. There isn't one. They are young, and hurt, and will get much much better next year.

You know what really put us in a hole? Starting out the game taking 4 bad shots off 1 pass. We seem to do this every game, its like everyone is throwing up heat checkers to see if they are going to be on that game. Then after we misss 4 or 5 in a row we start to pass and move and everything starts to work. I can't completely blame Carlino, although he does stupid stuff often. I also have a problem with Davies taking terrible terrible shots, he needs to realize shooting 15 foot fadeaways is not his game, nor is shooting threes. Stick in the low post and he's golden, but he gets greedy pretty often.

I think that Cusick has outplayed Carlino, especially lately, but I take issue with saying any of our players suck.

And obviously people can't discern irony. I should've added a TIC to the "sucks" part I guess, because even though this is at least the third in the line of "____ sucks" threads, people still didn't realize it. For the record, I'm not saying Carlino is a bad player or that he can't improve at all (he better, or else he shouldn't be starting next year though). It was me venting some frustration on Carlino's terrible games, especially knowing just how much better he could be playing. So Carlino doesn't suck, but he definitely sucked it up in the tournament.

Part of the problem was that his first game against Baylor made him look like a star. We and maybe him too had too high of expectations. Lets hope he improves by next season.

Looks like Delladova, the best PG in the WCC, shot 1-6 from deep in the NCAA Tourny. It happens. Carlino just needs a summer of coaching on his weaknesses to help him get better.

I'm disappointed that SMC could not pull it off.

Matt Carlino tweet:

"Thank you fans for all the support this season! Fun season to be a part of! Learned a lot! Now it is time to get a lot better!"

Good attitude for him to have. He has done well for his first year in Provo, especially for someone not of the LDS faith. I hope we can all keep rooting hard for a kid like this.

I'll admit that Carlino has made me cringe on multiple occasions. I've been pretty critical of him. BUT, I see a huge upside and it was a good learning experience for him this year. He is going to be good. Just needs to relax and trust his teammates a little more.

Great tweet from him. Thanks for posting that Mars.

Carlino, if you're reading this, love your fire, passion and confidence. Love how you push the ball. Take all criticism on here with a grain of salt, including what I say. You played well and better than any other freshman that started at BYU, redshirt or not. Keep up the good work. Match that passion with temperance and you'll be alright. Looking forward to see what you bring to the court next season.

Next year, BYU has Carlino/Cusick/Winder/Delgado/Zylstra/Haws, and we can only start 3 from that group. Can Carlino man the 2 if Delgado looks great at the 1?

The year after, you might see Carlino/Winder/Delgado/Haws/Collinsworth/Emery/Ainge. Again, only 3 possible starters there. Could Carlino be coming off of the bench?
