do you walk to the Franklin Institute?
yes--from where ever i find parking.
Are you making fun of my emphasis on walk-ability? That's fair, I really didn't understand the benefits before living in that kind of community and probably would do the same thing.

Yes I was making fun of your emphasis on "walkability" because even though I understand the theoritcal benefits of "walkability" I think that it's like car makers touting thier wheel size. it's a made-up statistic that is less than useful in real life.

I'm confused... You live 1 to 3 miles away from neighbors but walking distance to a Lowes? And, if walkability isn't useful in real life, why did you walk to Lowes?

I was being flippant... obviously if one could walk to Lowes, one wouldn't do it, because one never buys something at Lowes that one could walk home.... Also, I don't live 1 to 3 miles from my neighbors house (although my earlier post could be read that way) I live one to three miles from church, the grocery store, my kids' school...etc... I live within 6 feet of my neighbors yard (like everyone else in California)
Oh, and I'm going to call "not so fast" on being able to walk your kids to the store before someone else can load their kids in the car... you cannot even walk to your neighbors house and back before one puts their kids in car seats - it's a 30 second job on a bad day...

And, i'm literally 100 yards from two restaurants and number of shops. Even at a slow walk I can get there in slightly over a minute.

I guess this gets back to my origonal point, you couldn't pay me enough to live within 100 yards of two restaurants and a number of shops. I prefer to go to them, rather than all of their customers coming to my front yard.

To each his own I suppose. I'll swap good restaurants and shops for living in a densely populated neighborhood any day. And, since all the nearby business cater to an middle to upper class clientele I don't have any issue with folks on my front lawn.

I'm willing to bet that your neighborhood is more densly populated than mine is...

I doubt it--if you're 6 feet from your neighbor. There are 2,000 folks in my town and we're surrounded by farmland.

You have 2,000 people in ONE square mile... we're nowhere near that. My house is 6 feet from my property line to the east and west, but looking at one square mile around my house we're nowhere near 2,000 people.

I notice from the website that there is no LDS church in your borough. We occasionally ride our bikes to church, it's less than one mile from my house, but I'm assuming that you don't walk to church. I'm also willing to bet that you attend church more frequently than you eat at a restaurant.

We patronize one of the restaurants probably every other day on average, though it might just be grabbing a slice of pizza, ice cream cone on walk home from school, or hot chocolate and bacon egg and cheese panini for breakfast on saturday.
Once our newest neighbor opens later this spring--with its fresh fresh baked bread, locally grown produce, and meat raised and butchered less than 2 miles from where I will consume it--we will be walking there a ton as well.

To each his own though. We just love it, but realize its not for everyone.
