Who starts this year?

So who do you guys think will start this year:

1 - Carlino/Cusick/Calvert/Delgado

2 - Cusick/Winder/Delgado

3 - Haws/Zylstra - Haws better start over Zylstra

4 - Sharp/Ambrosino

5 - Davies/Austin/Harward

The big question marks are who will start at the 2 and 4 for Rose? I'd like to see Delgado at the 2 but not sure he's ready for it. Hopefully Winder takes a step forward this year. At least with Haws in the mix this season we should at least get some consistent scoring from the 3 making the loss of Noah a little easier to swallow. Hopefully with Haws, Auggie, Delgado, and Carlino our outside shooting is much improved. Winder and Delgado are going to have to be the sparks on defense now without Charles

I think you'll see Austin start at the 4. I think we'll see a rotation at the 4 and 5 with Austin moving up to the 5 when Davies comes out, but you'll see Austin and Davies on the floor together alot of the time.

Winder will start over Cusick at the 2, but you'll see Zylstra at the 2 some of the time as well.

I am pretty sure we are going to start this line up

Carlino

Haws

Zylstra

Davies

Austin

The problem with this line up is we don't have any shotblocking or a lockdown perimeter defender.

By the end of season I hope we get here

Carlino

Winder/Delgado

Haws

Davies

Austin

Hopefully Winder or Delgado can become a very good defender.

I'll be shocked if we don't see Zylstra start early in the season.

Sadly, Zylstra will probably start.

Would like to see:

1 - Carlino

2 - Winder

3 - Haws

4 - Davies

5 - Austin

We'll see what we get, though. Supposedly Sharp is on the rise. Any word on how Harward is (think I spelled that right) is doing?

I don't see how we can start Austin as he's our only decent back-up to Davies. Did Haws play the 2 before the mission? He may struggle defending the perimeter

Haws mostly played the 3. He has trouble defending the perimeter, but he'd create match-up problems on offense.

We probably actually won't see Austin and Davies on the court at the same time due to the point you make above. But who then plays the 4? Harward? Sharp? Probably Sharp.

Typical starter plays 30-40 minutes a game. If they only had 1 viable option to come in at the 4, and that player played 20 minutes a game, they would be able to start both Davies and Austin and bring in someone like Sharp to allow both Davies and Austin to rest. I think we see both Austin and Davies start and we rotate other players in at the 4 and move Davies or Austin (depending on who stays in) to the 5.

So after tonight it looks like our rotation is something like:

Carlino-Calvert

Cusick-Winder

Haws-Delgado

Sharp-Ambrosino/Zylstra (Ambrosino had more minutes tonight but I'm not sure how much of that is a result of BYU emptying the bench)

Davies-Austin-Harward

Either Ambrosino is going to have to learn and step up fast at at the four or Sharp is going to have to put on 30 pounds or same for the Artist formerly known as Zylchstra. Or we are going to see a lot of Davies aNd Austin by necessity. Sharp and Z are NOT good options at The 4 during Conference play.

My Top 4 players are Davies, Haws, Carlino, and Austin.

The 5th starter can be Sharp, or Delgado, or Harward, or even Augusino in my book.

Carlino, Haws, Sharp, Davies, Austin

Carlino, Delgado, Haws, Davies, Austin

Carlino, Haws, Austin, Davies, Harward

Carlino, Haws, Augustino, Davies, Austin

I reserve the right to unfairly dislike Zylstra.

My vote -

Carlino, Delgado, Haws, Davies, Austin - maybe Winder in place of Delgado

I'm pretty sure Cusick will retain the starting spot at the 2 for a while until either Winder or Delgado take it from him

Not sure how Sharp would handle the 3

I think I already reserved the right to "unfairly dislike Zylstra"

What I'd like and what we'll see will likely be different.

Here's what I'd like:

1 - Carlino

2 - Winder

3 - Haws

4/5 - Davies

4/5 - Austin

What we'll likely see, at least at the beginning of the season is:

1 - Carlino

2 - Cusick

3 - Haws

4 - Sharp

5 - Davies

Not that impressed with Delgado. Looks great when his feet are set and he's had time to get comfortable in the baseline corner; other than that I didn't see anything that great from him. Defense looked average. Ball handling looked average. No off the dribble shooting.

I like Winder better at the 2. I like his speed, defense and ability to run the floor. Have no idea how Winder's shooting is. If it's improved from last season than Winder should start.

If what we see is Carlino, Cusick, haws sharp Davies early, it will fade quickly defensively. That or we better score in bunches every night.

Basically, after Davies, Haws and Carlino it's a toss up.

Maybe he's trying to not make Zylstra feel bad when he's coming off the bench

There's no way Zylstra starts. If he does I will cry. Sure, he had a good game against a horrible team, but I was at that game and just from what I saw there is no way he can hack it with any team much more athletic than that team.

I remember when I was a freshman (3 and a half yrs. ago) Zylstra's little brother was sitting next to me in one of my classes and was bashing/talking about how much he hated certain players on the team and how his brother should start and was so much better than Tav and some of the other players...including Jimmer...uhhhhhhhhh...yeah, dream on man.

You guys think there's any way Rose would start both Carlino and Calvert at the 1 and 2?? This would make the tempo of our offense possibly even faster than it already is and that may be our best shot of having any sort of perimeter defense to begin the year. That way Winder can get healthy and Delgado can get into better shape. You could rotate Cusick in with Carlino and Calvert at the 1 bring in Delgado at the 2.....I just see our perimeter defense suffering too much if we use either Haws or Zylstra at the 2.
