So just answer me this--why does the church prohibit guns (except in rare circumstances) on their property (excluding possibly parking lots)?

Guns have not been banned by the Church. They have been banned by Utah state law. The church has deemed bringing guns to be inappropriate during worship services. No other statements have been made.

If you would have used this language in your origonal post, we'd have moved on 8 to 10 pages ago. You keep like this, avoiding hyperbole, and we'll get along just fine

Wrong. Church published, a totally optional, statement invoking the Utah ban re its properties.

And, "During worship service"? Where in the world did you get that? So are you saying that I can take a gun to Mutual?

The actual phrase is 'House of Worship' so yes, you'd be completely fine taking a gun to mutual depending upon where it's held.

You already know my answer, and I'm fine that we can agree to disagree on the reason that we think is behind the the church's poilcy (truth is, neither of actually know.) I'm additionally glad that we can agree to disagree on a simple statement - not hyperbole. You claim the policy to be based on safety, I say it's a liability issue. You will say there is no difference between the two, and I will say why then, do you have insurance? Insurance doesn't make your home, auto or business any safer - it just limits the liability... but again, I don't feel a need to change your mind. I'm glad that we can now move on

Okay--I had to go back and see my original to see all the hyperbole that's caused such an unnecessary ruckus. Here it is....

"Interesting though that the church has a strict ban on guns (except for on duty officers that are required to carry) on their properties."

I guess I really should have added that bit about parking lots... So funny.

"Strict ban" =/= "prohibit"

""off duty officers" =/= "rare circumstances"

We had armed guards at the MTC where I was. And by armed, I mean they had guns (and arms, just so I'm clear).

So they were armed armed guards?

Sounds about right. And this was in a country with more restrictive gun laws than the US.

If the Church is attempting to ban guns, why are the still associating with organizations like the Boy Scouts that attempt to teach gun safety. If there is no such thing as a safe gun and there should be no guns, then the Church has an obligation to disassociate themselves from any non law-enforcement organization that uses guns. Further, they should advise their members to avoid joining the military or law enforcement agencies as guns are wrong.

So, back to the original question, and one posed to corn hole: Should a gun control law include exemptions for law enforcement officials?

In the Church's official handbook, it prohibits guns (except for cops required to be carrying). The freakin definition of "ban" is to officially prohibit something... Yeah, such hyperbole.

I can't find a single state that requires off duty officers to carry, so I concluded that only on-duty officers would be required to carry. You continue to claim that all off-duty officers are required to carry (to church), without producing a single cite? Yeah, I'm the one using hyperbole.

Guess my original statement, after 8 pages of attacks, remains unblemished.

I say go ahead and ban every gun. But only on two conditions. You can guarantee me that no criminal will ever get them either. If you can't that then don't tell me I can't protect my family with a semi-automatic gun of my choosing. A close second stipulation would be that you can guarantee that the government will never become tyrannical to where the people may need to rise up and "reset" it which was the original intent as to why freedom to possess "arms" was the second thing included in the Bill of Rights.
