LP would win this matchup...here's why.

1. Davies is a very mediocre player and can be counted on to get into early foul trouble, so he would ride the bench most of this game and be a non-factor.

2. Zylstra would get whipped by the LP wings, Zylstra is not a D1 player.

3. LP does not rely on one player, and BYU could not defend all their players, but stop Haws and you beat this BYU team.

I'm just glad these LP guys are coming to BYU, they are an instant upgrade.

You didn't say a single thing in this post that was true. Not one thing. It's so laughably wrong I can only assume that you are joking.

Davies stats vs USU: 4 fouls, 4 rebounds, 4 points off field goals, 3 turnovers, 1 assist, 24 minutes PT (Haws = 36 minutes, Carlino 32, Cusick 27, Zylstra 20); I'd say that is almost ridiculously un-funny and mediocre for a Sr on his home floor. You can see the frustration on Rose's face regarding BD.

Hey, but the good news is BD went 6/6 on free throws and BYU won an awesome and much needed buzzer beater thriller to get everybody fired up for the end of the season............(notwithstanding USU's best 3 players were out for the season).

Davies' stats vs Baylor: 3 fouls, 17 rebounds, 15 points off field goals, 11 points off of free throws, 4 turnovers, 3 assists, 1 block and 3 steals, 36 minutes PT.

That's almost ridiculously, funny good for a SR on the road against some future NBA talent. You can see the pride on Rose's face regarding BD. But hey, the bad news is BYU lost by 15 and was never in the game.

Davies' stats vs Weber St: 2 fouls, 8 rebounds, 28 points off field goals, 3 turnovers, 1 assist, 1 block, 36 minutes PT

No one is arguing that Davies is great (well no one that knows what they are talking about). He wasn't even good last night until the free throws at the end. I have been saying that about Davies since the beginning of the season. The rationally thinking posters on this thread are saying that LP has three D1 players on their team and they couldn't beat BYU. It would never happen. If they played 100 times, BYU wins 100 times.

This thread is so far out there, that the pure entertainment value is impressive that anyone could possibly think LP would beat BYU.

I have watched LP play. They have three fantastic players. Shumway is good to very good. The rest of the team is okay to poor.

But anyone that wants to think that LP would even give BYU a run (or any other D1 team for that matter) can do that. I will continue to mock them.

Rational thinkers know there are few true dichotomies ("all or nothing" thinking if you need a definition) in existence. I could accept and even predicted that BYu would win. But I Did not nor would I predict 100 out of 100. But yes, BYU would beat LP 95 out of 100, I get that.

But going back to my original thread, I don't expect rigid, black and white thinkers to be able to handle this kind of thread.

Great points. Great games. The problem is the inconsistency. Is this a mental problem? A character problem? I don't know. What explains the near disappearance act of Brandon Davies? Is it purely all about matchups? What?

Sr's are reasonably expected to avoid simple mental errors and bad fouls. They know they hurt their team when they can't control their impulses to slap at arms and charge. They know that it is their time and their team depends on them being on the floor for more than sixty percent of the game.

I don't think inconsistency is exclusive to Brandon Davies, or BYU. There are NBA players with inconsistent games. Players at every level can't control their impulses. They do this despite knowing their teams depend on them. I bet fans of Indiana have someone on their team who they complain about for the same things. Dookies, probably have someone playing for the Blue Devils that they just can't understand why he keeps making the same mistakes.

This isn't a BYU phenomenom. It happens all over the place. Doesn't make any less acceptable, just more understanable.

But then, such a black and white concept might be beyond some. ;)

I did predict that and stand by it. BYU beats LP 100 times straight. Assuming we don't lose all our players to injury.

It's funny that you say rigid, black and white thinkers. You asked the question if LP could beat BYU. They couldn't. There is no scenario, assuming both teams are set as they are right now, where LP beats BYU. None.

You can ask the question and then accept the answers. You can't ask the question and then dictate the answers. You don't have to like the answers and that is the point of this thread. There isn't a single post that has described a scenario where LP could beat BYU. At least no logical, rational one.

And we're not talking 100 games. We're essentially talking one game. And in a one game scenario, LP wouldn't win and most likely wouldn't compete for very long either.

LP has some very talented players, but the development difference between a 16- or 17-year-old and a 21- or 23-year-old is considerable.

Plus, BYU's players are all 28 with kids playing high school ball themselves.

Lone Peak's best 4 outside shooters may be better than BYU's best outside shooter. I'm saying that gives them a chance. Anyone who doesn't might not understand sports or basketball.

They may also appear better now by playing weaker competition. The only way to know for sure will be to see if their shooting percentage goes down when playing D1 competition.

Like Calvert's did and Delgado's did, sure. I'm just saying that "100 out of 100" is hogwash. We lost at home to the RPI #153 team by 12 points. I'm saying that they would have a chance. ESPECIALLY in a rotation-shortened, time-shortened game like I mentioned earlier in this thread.

LP could easily win if we played until someone scored, or if BYU played blindfolded, or if we didn't put anyone on the court.

See, I can do that too...

If the game was a standard D1 game, two 20 minute halves, both teams playing their full roster, BYU wins 100 times straight.

They would also win in a "Who's older contest". See, I can do it too.

I take Lone Peak in a game of H-O-R-S-E.

I would take LP in HORSE as well. Although I bet Carlino and Haws are pretty good.

100 out of 100 is stupid. I have seen BYU play every single half, and there are some halves of Basketball that BYU very easily could have lost to Lone Peak. But they wouldn't do that for a full game, they would make adjustments, which they did in the other halves.

But you get one bad half of Bball, compared with a good half from Lone Peak, it would be close... Combine two bad halves together and we have a game on our hands. It wouldn't be that hard to nuetralize Davies, for starters.

The 100 out of 100 "logic" completely discounts one of the greatest moments of America's althletic history.
