I will take one more stab at this. For those who think BYU would win 100 out of 100, consider how long that would take to play. 2 years? 3? Many BYU players have hit their ceiling. LP players would be closing that gap with each successive loss and learning session. After about 30-40 losses, if the loss streak lasted that long, they wold start to pick up a win or two out of ten simply because they will Age, mature, improve, close the gap, and they are Champions and play with a championship mentality and have a coach to match Rose in all the variables that make a great coach.
So, how would you answer if this LP team (at least the top 5) played the current Cougar team when they were JRs and Srs in high school. Similarly, how would they match up if they all played at the Jr/Sr level in college? I think the LP team wins both games. Which Means the gap is not as large as the absolutists stomp their feet and argue.
Name one player on the current Cougar team was ranked as high out of high school as Emery or Mika? Davies? Nope. Cusick? nada. Zylchstra? nope neither.
The Haws brothers will probably be a wash. Tyler was ranked number 1 in Utah and so is TJ. But TJ is probably ranked higher nationally given all the tournaments LP has played in nationally.
Schmoe has it right, it wouldn't take 3 years. It could be done easily in 10 weeks or so.
The scenario you describe here is completely different than what you originally posted. This scenario, playing when all is equal, either all as HS jr's/sr's or all equal college experience, I say BYU still wins. It would be close, but you are still playing three D1 players, against eight or twelve, however many you want to have on a roster.
The problem is that you can't discount the age, experience, and maturity factor, and there are three true D1 players on LP and even with that, they have lost a game this year. That isn't a knock on them, it just shows that the big three doesn't have a good enough supporting cast to even beat every HS team. It's like asking if the best NCAA football or basketball team would compete in the NBA or NFL. It wouldn't be close. As good as the Alabama was last year, the couldn't hold a candle to any NFL team. As good as Indiana is this year (and that's debatable) they would get destroyed in the NBA.
Every player on BYU's roster was either the best or one of the 2 or 3 best players on their high school team. Add to that, the age and experience, and no high school team could even come close to a D1 team.
If you would have asked if Mika, Emery and Haws would start over any other current players on BYU right now, that would be an interesting question.
