BYU vs. Saint Mary's (aka daddy)

Man, just a little more talent and we are up 10 in this game and well on our way to the tourney this season. We still have a shot, but does this team have any mental toughness?

Davies WTF is wrong with you????? You stepped away from the guy shooting the 3 and let him shoot uncontested!!!!!!!!!! Wow. Davies you are a joke.

Has St. Mary's ever not scored when the shot clock gets down to nothing? Amazing.

Haws gets called for a soft offensive foul with the game on the line and then no call when there was clearly contact on the shot. This is BYU's season in a nutshell. I hate playing in the WCC. This is a joke.

Missed FT's killed us tonight

Story of season - missed opportunities to convert - Davies gets blocked twice, MC misses 2 FT, Haws airball.

Turnovers killed us. 14 for us 6 for SM

BYU has played SMC tight twice and should have won the game - don't have execution capabilities in second half to put teams away.

BYu held SMC to 36% shooting, 25% from 3 pt land. Good defensive stand - should be enough to win. Again SMC outrebounded BYU on offensive end 13-5 - rebounding is another achilles heel. Hustle plays hurt them as did their 14 turnovers.

Another big key - Delly held Haws to low scoring game, and Carlino stinks it up again in prime time.

I've got to put the blame on Tyler (invisible in the second half) and Matt (invisible the whole game). Huge kudos to Brandon, but the guy can't do it all.



And the biggest kudos have to go to St. Mary's ridiculous execution with under 10 seconds on the shot clock (baskets and offensive rebounds).

Take a deep breath everybody. Here is your equation for the day: tremendous effort + marginal talent + no depth = 7 point loss @ SMC. Sounds about right to me. I counted 10 if not 11 different players who saw the floor tonight. That many this late in the season in essentially a one possession game all game long = a team that is flawed. I guess that is two equations for the night, but everyone knows this already. Admired the effort and hope to steal some wins down the road. GO COUGARS!

Davies didn't lose the game for the cougars, but he certainly didn't win it for them. He was as bad as everybody when you consider that A) he could have scored any time that he wanted to that game (by posting within 6 feet and backing down. Either hitting high% shot or getting to the line) and chose not to, taking entire plays off on the offense continuously



and B) as our center he seemed much more interested in guarding the 3 point line than boxing out and getting the defensive rebound. Giving up offensive rebounds killed us more than anything else that night, including turnovers. Turnovers don't wind 30 seconds off the clock per possession, but giving the Gaels the ball with a new shot clock every other time down the court is about the easiest way to lose a game.



He lost us the game just as much as he kept us in it.
