We missed Sharps rebounding ability and any form of outside shooting. Rose made mistakes by not playing Sharp and Delgado more. We lacked any shooter on the floor and Delgado could have helped as well

Davies did plenty to win this game!!!! The rest of the team didn't show up!!!

Unfortunately this is typical of Carlino. He's a good enough PG to show very well against poor guards, but against the 3 or 4 guards that are better than him in the WCC he looks like a chump, because he gets lost in some sort of mental game.

Mental mistakes by the team all around, especially the big 3. Maybe Rose needs to bring in a psychologist.

Davies didn't lose the game for the cougars, but he certainly didn't win it for them. He was as bad as everybody when you consider that A) he could have scored any time that he wanted to that game (by posting within 6 feet and backing down. Either hitting high% shot or getting to the line) and chose not to, taking entire plays off on the offense continuously

and B) as our center he seemed much more interested in guarding the 3 point line than boxing out and getting the defensive rebound. Giving up offensive rebounds killed us more than anything else that night, including turnovers. Turnovers don't wind 30 seconds off the clock per possession, but giving the Gaels the ball with a new shot clock every other time down the court is about the easiest way to lose a game.

He lost us the game just as much as he kept us in it.

Typical. Davies carried the team and you still find a way to criticize him.

I think we've been spoiled at PG with Jimmer. Carlino is not a bad PG and I think/hope he'll improve over the next two years to be an all conf type PG. The bigs need lots of help though, I hate seeing bigs in there looking like deer in the headlights. I understand why Kafusi is getting minutes. He doesn't score but at least he has a presence. None of the other bigs (besides Davies of course) has shown any reason to put them on the floor. Hopefully that will get better over the next couple of years as well either by maturity or by younger better bigs.

Would be nice to play UK in the NIT!!! ;)

Oh. This explains the "no surprise" comment. I agree. And I feel he can and hope he can improve. He has enough athleticism and skills and upside that he could. And will be a disappointment if he doesn't.

Like Davies, who should be having a better year. He had overall a very solid game but again made at least two very visible and critical mistakes toward the end of the game.

One was cheating away from Dellavadiva once he made all the effort to get out there and D sank the three (or was that the other guard)--anyway, he flat out left him. Second, when he had the ball and good position on the block and no help D and he threw the ball back out to the perimeter and turned it over. He should have gone to he rim and either got fouled or made a great shot. Huge, huge. For a Sr to make those mental mistakes when he was the only one having a very good game. It's sort of forgivable goven his production, but certainly very preventable and just more mental break downs consistent with Brandon. But credit has to go to him, he was having a great game.

The other two plays where he got blocked by that tall doofus, also seemed a little preventable. He was either tired or playing weak sauce, bc he made that dude look like he was Shawn Bradley tall.

Davies played well, but there was much to criticize. He obviously didn't play well enough. I don't think you watch these games. I listened to Davies interview w Wrubell on the way home and Davies mentioned all of these things. Literally all of them.

I also don't want to see Davies take another 3 this year. He is at 25% and has no business shooting these, or doing them in practice. He doesn't need to step out of the 10 foot mark with the basketball on the offense. It's just bad coaching and bad mental mistakes to not go to Brandon down low each time.

Would you say that over the entire course of the game (supposing you watched it), giving up offensive rebounds lost us the game?

I do. Dave Rose does. Brandon Davies admitted it. Steve Cleveland and Greg Wrubell talked about it. Davies should be the one getting every defensive rebound, and there was at least 3 people he just let step in front of him and grab the ball and put it back up without boxing out. That is just basic basketball right there.

Davies isn't alone in it, everyone played poorly. BYU didn't play smart enough to win. But to say (as some posters here) that Davies did everything to win and we just needed a couple more guys to show up is false.

It's typical that I make a post and you try to start a fight. Maybe you should just ignore me and I you. I'm tired of going back and forth with you. It's stupid.

That's not fair. I don't think anyone expects another Jimmer anytime soon. I appreciate Carlino's upside but he is incredibly erratic, which is frustrating. I also hate the fact that it seems we don't have a single player who can break down a defense. All we do is dump into the post and wait. When did our offense become boring? You simply can't win without getting into the lane against good teams. Where is Dave Rice when we need him to call a game?

Davies-two critical mistakes down the stretch. Hustled out to guard the three only to retreat /cheat back and gets a three nailed by Dela (or the other guard). 2- Davies gets ball on the block, no double team came, throws it back out to perimeter, turnover. Two mental errors late that really hurt. Not to mention he made their doofus center look like Shawn Bradley tall when he weak sauced two short shots. Not all Davies fault, but I expect more from a Sr.

Size matters. Which is why we are seeing more of Kaufusi and less of Sharp and Austin. Also, more I suspect more of Delgado and less of the guard alternatives. We can't penetrate the middle partly bc we don't have the size and strength. Also Haws' problem. He keeps getting pushed around and resorts now to these wild turnarounds that don't have a high percentage.

I've always thought Delgado looked like he deserved more minutes, he's much more ready to play than Calvert.

Agreed. Maybe Offensive minded Rosé has been spending some time with defensive minded Bronco. ;-)

Davies did more than enough to win it for us. Was he perfect? No but to bag on him is preposterous. Carlino was a no show and Hawes of no consequence and if they play better and more dominantly, we win. This team needs Harwood or Austin or both to hit he weight room and start playing like centers!

If I was Rose I'd think long and hard about giving Harward's scholarship to 2014 recruit Ryan Andrus. I think the reason Harward doesn't see the floor more is because he's still having back problems. After Rogers and CC we can't hold on to players that won't be able to contribute due to lingering injuries
