Agreed. Neither player had much in the way of post moves, but I'll take the guy who can shoot a consistent jumper over the black hole any day. I am looking forward to see if Mika is truly an improvement. I already know he is way more explosive, but we'll see if he has any moves or a jumper at the D1 level.

Most likely.

If we had them both, we likely would have had 5-7 more wins. They played of each other very well.

We probably win 5 more games this year if we don't lose Collinsworth and Rogers. Those two were projected starters who would have opened things up for the rest of the team. Huge impact losing 40% of your starting lineup to injury. And to make it worse, you lose them too late in the game for replacements to be brought in. Add to that the loss of Harrison because these two spots weren't opened up in time for him to rejoin the team and our season would have been stellar with those three coming back. Lineup of : Davies, Collinsworth, Rogers, Haws, Carlino would not have lost to USF, USD twice, nor first St Mary's, maybe second as well. Possibly would have beat Zags second time around. Either way, we would easily be in the NCAA this year without these two injuries. Rose did what he could with what he had.

I don't know that we lost Collinsworth and Rogers so much as they delayed their inevitable departure from the team until it would do the most damage to the team.

Both Hawk and LV are right:

I loved Roger's length on defense (he was a serious shot contester at the 3 line), and we needed a wing that could shoot the 3. Collinsworth would have been better than the alternative backups, namely because he could stand on both his feet for more than 5 minutes at a time.

With that said, Just like "that one quarterback" that played last year; we can play "what if's" all day about what it would be like if they were healthy, but the bottom line is that after neither one being able to stay solidly healthy for almost 2 full seasons Rose should have told them BEFORE RECRUITING SEASON (instead of much, much after when they "retired") that he "would love them on the team, but we can't take another roster hit with 2 empty spots for another year, so if they can workout and practice with the team for an offseason (a la Carlino) and prove that they are strong enough to play consistent basketball that he would give them a roster spot back.

(Maybe even let them keep their schollies for the bball year, so the rug isn't pulled out from under them, maybe pull it. That depends on how early you have that conversation with them.)

Rose screwed it up. I hate to sound like Bib, but I posted 2 years ago that D Rose needed to bring in big men, just in case C Coll couldn't make it back, and was met with tons of "He's on his way back" comments, and I said, "We'll see, but he might not get back to playing" but Rose needs to get big men here pronto.

I think Rose should boot Zylstra off of scholarship (and probably either Martineu or Winder) and go get some JC transfer bigs on scholarship.

Who even knows if CC will be healthy for next year? I hope so, but who knows? With Rogers being a 3 man, that leaves us Noah down low, and ... just Noah.

I know that we have some bigs coming off missions, but I don't think they will be up to speed by the time this season rolls around.

Yes. Credit you. Maybe an earlier determination could have led to getting Loveridge, maybe not. But you can't fault Rose for standing by his guys and hoping for the best. He had to be thinking that a line up of Carlino, Haws, Rogers, CColl, and Davies, would have led to pretty strong year.

I wonder if Rose can learn anything or at least apply some heightened analytics to hedge against something like this happening again.

Most likely not. Loveridge was never really interested in coming to BYU.
