BYU is 0-5 on the road in the NIT.

Yes, but we were also Oh-fer after something like March 20 for the last 100 years. I know I shouldn't hold out hope now, as I thought we would lose the last two, and my expectations of winning are going to make me hate this team again when they don't.

I know I am looney - but I think this will be a nail-biter. I'm cautiously calling a Cougar win. Very close, tough, back and forth. I think the big 3 continue to play well with strong support from Zylstra.

I also think the height advantage that Austin has will be critical on both offensive & defensive boards - and blocked shots. I think we force the Golden Eagles to play a perimeter game - where they can score. But, they have to be on the money to beat BYU. I like our chances.

BYU height: Austin 6' 11", Davies 6' 9"

So Miss height: 6' 9", 6' 8", 6' 7", 6' 5".

Go Cougs!

BYU must rebound similarly to how they have rebounded the last two games (+9 & +12) if they want to have a chance at winning. They also must take care of the ball like they haev as well (12 & 8 turnovers).

Basically, if they play like they have the last two games, they'll win.

I thought the Mercer game would be much closer but as long as we rebound we can beat any of these teams really. That's why St. Mary's and Gonzaga keep beating us--we're too weak on the glass vs them. If S. Miss' 6'6" guys pull down any offensive boards then the bigs should immediately sit. Get rebounds = 15 pt win.

Mercer was a close game. The score was like 59-55, before Mercer ran out of gas, BYU laid down the hammer and finished on a 31-16 run.

I like our size advantage and see no reason why we shouldn't out rebound So MS as long as we remember to box out.

Game will be won/loss defending the perimeter. If we can limit their outside shooting, we win.

Davies should be able to do whatever he wants in the paint against So MS as long as he doesn't foul. Just feed him the ball.

So MS may actually give Haws fits. Haws will have to be patient and not force things, which he has a tendancy to do. He'll need to recognize doubles and either pass it in to Davies or dish out to Carlino.

Carlino needs to keep doing what he's been doing. More importantly, though, he'll need to keep So MS in check out on the perimeter. If Carlino only chips in a half dozen points and a few assists but keeps his man from draining 3s, I'd be completely fine with that performance.

What I'm looking forward to the most is to see if the basketball court is made of plywood and 2x4's duct taped together.

Oh wait, it's REED Green Coliseum? Never mind.

So you're telling me our man-defense is going to have to play a bigger roll in this game

Basically. I could see Rose using some sort of zone to try and contain the perimeter and basically just leave Davies/Austin underneath to defend the post, but I'd go with man.

I think Davies and Austin are quick enough to defend their guys. They certainly won't get overpowered. We'll need to be on alert for the drive and dish...

But Zylstra and Cusick aren't

Davies is such a pansy. He is giving up multiple offensive rebounds and what is with the fade away jumpshot?

Does he not know that their biggest player is only 6'7? No posting down low at all. He isn't even trying. It is like he is afraid of them for some reason.

Shakes head.

Yeah, Davies is not having his best game. Care to bring up his last game?

Except Davies and Austin both have 3 fouls with 15:00 minutes left in the second half

If ther ever was a big man who has the 25 foot out foul down, it's our man Brandon. Sheesh. Still team is playing well. Need to close!

He played aggresively for the last two games, posted down low often and did a terrific job. I posted about that in the threads for those games. In THIS game he is stinking it up. I wonder why he isn't being aggressive like he has been the last 2?

Maybe a little worn down from bringing it during the last 2.

Could be. He played lights out on offense the last 2. We did just play a game less than 48 hours ago in a state 15 states away from this one.

Hopefully they can put it away soon and he can rest up and he can bring the noise again.
