Go Broncos! I graduated from Blackfoot HS. Only spent 1 year there, but loved the place and loved the people. Popular LDS speaker/teacher/leader, Randy Bird was my class pres.

Go Panthers! ;) Sorry but my wife grew up on the "other" side of the river and that is where we reside. At least we are united in our support of the Cougars! :)

A few guys have stopped by B-Ball practice this week according to rumorboard and Rose is still running with a 4-guard line-up. Starters so far have been Carlino, Bartley, Haws, KC, and Mika. KC has been playing D' at the 4 but also has been alternating with Carlino at the 1. This friday at the boom shaka-whatever guys were saying they wouldn't be surprised if KC or Bartley won the DUNK contest even with Sharp and Mika. KC, Mika, and Sharp were tested this week and all had 35"+ verts. I think our team athleticism is going to take a step forward this year for sure.

Because he's had two year to train and hone his skills while on a mission. That's the reason BYU has such an advantage nationally. ;)

Easier to lose conditioning and strength, but hops are hops.. either you have them or you don't. Don't think I've ever seen a guy that couldn't jump much become a guy that could. This is one of the things recruiters look for, can they play above the rim? If not, they're not likely to at the next level.

That was awesome. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Isn't the bigger regression poor conditioning and stamina? I'm sure vert goes a little, but it can come back more quickly iirc.

I'm going to repeat my previous heretical prediction. If KC is playing bulk of the time at the 4 vs Utah, Loveridge will school him in the post. KC is an on ball, perimeter defender, who may even be good coming help side with a step or two and some ups. But, I hope Rose who is infinitesimally smarter than I am, doesn't confuse KC with his brother, CC.

Regardless, I am very intrigued to see what shakes out in the rotation this year. And very excited to watch this team come together.

Also, I hope it's not a PG controversy. If a team has a qb Contro, it has no qb. Carlino is a better shooter as a 2. KC is not that good at PG--reminiscent of Rose's choice of playing Brock Zylstra at the point.

Collinsworth would do ok at the point, he can get to the basket which is key, but he would flop with his 3 pt shot. I think Carlino is our guy at the point.

If KC has learned to take of the ball and can distribute, he could have the effect of magic Johnson: Tall, vision, can pass over the top, get to the RIM, and finish at the rim. He would draw ALOT of attention on D and free up outside shooters. This suits his strength best. He is not a good shooter, ugly form.

And Carlino does better as a 2 than a 1, IMO.

KC has length on D at the perimeter could add some much needed perimeter D as well.

What it really come to is a much better mix and match options depending on the opponent.

A few things I enjoyed learning last night:

1. Halford might to be a genuine threat from outside. He was impressive in the 3-point shootout.

2. Bartley has serious hops. His dunk while leaping over Mika was fun to watch.

3. Mika is pronounced mee-ka, not Mike-a as I had assumed. When you live this far from Utah, you don't hear the name pronounced.

4. Jennifer Hamson can dunk! I hope to see her do it in a game this year.

Thanks Iowa. I was wondering if anyone would comment on this. By the way where are you from in Iowa? I served in Ottumwa and Cedar Falls/Waterloo. Loved it and the people there.

I have lived in the Des Moines area for 9 years now. We've had great missionaries serving here during that time. I served as Ward Mission Leader for several years, and got to work closely with them. Thank you for your service.

If we can sell our house soon, we'll be moving to Colorado soon to be close to grandchildren. I will miss Iowa, but I'm a Colorado native, so it will be home, too. Do you think it will be confusing to people if I retain the"Iowa" moniker?

Not to me. To me Iowa is an honorable state, full of those who feed us. I went on a church history tour a few years ago and every hill had soy beans, corn or hay on it. It would be interesting to know how many millions are fed by Iowa farmers. I'm pleased to have some Iowa in me. You sound like you are too.

KC did fine during our tourney run playing the 4. Plus he had to guard bigger/better players than Loveridge. Loveridge is a semi-stretch 4 and I think that bodes well for KC. i just don't see Jordan eating KC's lunch. It may happen I just think KC can hold is own down low if needs be.

Positives.. the team likes each others and had fun

Halford can shoot (however the lighting in the field house didn't help them.. wasn't made for hoops.. but for TV)

Mika and Worthington are confident

Negatives

KC still has mission legs, had no chance on the dunks he was trying

They all looked out of shape and tired after a relatively small work load

Austin had the yips.. I have watched and listened to him in a few interviews recently. It appears that the guy has some issues with performance anxiety; hopefully that fades because we need him early. (He was a beast in the NIT)

None of our returness look like they've put on any muscle. Sharp looks no different.

My take very premature take home... we're going to miss Davies a lot more than people realize.

I was born and lived as a child on the western slope, then went to High School in Loveland, so that really feels like "home". I went back and taught school there for a few years, and later lived in Littleton for 9 years.

My wife and I have lived all over the country, and all of those places had great things about them. But the open frank friendliness of midwesterners is something I'll always appreciate.
