(darn near triple double if you count turnovers and bad shots)
It's comments like this that make me question whether or not I want to be associated with some "fans." I understand that you think Collingsworth is overrated. However, he had 2 turnovers the entire game and clearly outplayed Haws who missed twice as many shots as he took, had 5 assists and looked good for a player just off his mission. He was 1 miss off 50% shooting for the night and you think it's funny to fire a shot. Pathetic.
I'm a huge KC defender... I dont' think KC is overrated at all (go read the old KC posts). I think he made a lot of bad decisions in the game and got lost sometimes after he took a dribble and he did take some bad shots... (I don't care as much if you miss them, I care that they're high percentage shots that you should be taking... KC has no business taking 3 pt shots right now. He'll get better, but your post is way off base. Couldn't be further from reality.)
I spent 3 years recruiting for a D 1 program, I can see a lot of potential in KC but he had a bad game and looked out of place, particularly in the 1st half. But I also see a very aggressive and solid defender that has a lot of Danny Ainge in him; he just has some flaws that hopefully get worked out, whether he's great or not will come down to if he can improve on those flaws. We've had good players never improve (Trent Plaisted, even my good friend Charles Abouo) and then we've had players that improved every year they were in the program (Jimmer, Noah Hartsock).... I hope KC ends up in the improve every year group.. because he has the tools to be a stud. But he was a mess during the exhibition and if you've coached or been around coaches, you'll realize they do not like empty possessions. KC provided too many empty possessions in the exhibition... even Dave Rose made it be known after the game that KC struggled and that he believe that he'll improve. You can't watch that game with a coaches eye and think that KC had a good game...
Oh and of course I did note that KC had a double double ... the rest was for the entertainment of the more easily amused and probably for those that know my tendancies in this hoops forum. I'm a KC fan... ask any regular here.
Sorry, I'm just tired of those that see it as their responsibility to point out their version of each player's deficiencies. It has been rampant the last few years, especially in football. Congrats on the son.
Pointing out a young players deficiencies in a chat group like this helps us do what we do here. Speculate about the future. Does it mean someone doesn't love BYU? No
I highly recommend not going to any sports chat board (anywhere) if you don't like when people "see it as their responsibility to point out their version of each player's deficiencies" It's what happens. This is not a BYU thing, not a college sports thing, in fact it's not even a sports thing. (Go to a political chat room ;) )
Is it okay to say "Jimmer doesn't play defense very well?" It's true and just because we're fans and we love Jimmer doesn't mean we aren't capable and allowed to have opinions and make observations. I paid for part of my college by scouting juco and high school athletes for a D1 hoops team. I spent countless hours breaking down players at AAU tournaments. I don't think it would be fair to be on a forum like this and not share my opinion of a players game.
However, I have also defended players here. I said Brandon Davies was an NBA player, when others said that claim was laughable. I defended Abouo and Hartsock when they were freshmen and sophs when others called them garbage. I said that Hartsock would be our best player by the time he's a senior. But I only say those things, when I see the potential. There is potential to get better, there is potential to get worse, there's potential to not improve at all.
I recently said it looks like Josh Sharp didn't work on his game at all this summer, hasn't gained weight, and looks like he's becoming less and less of a factor... to me if I were Josh Sharp, I'd be upset about that (but he has no one to blame but himself). If I were KC and I read what was written about me, I'd simply prove them wrong by playing smarter. Nothing Sharp can do, it's clear he wasn't working on his game... it's too late.. I don't believe that about KC (it's clear he has been working on getting stronger, etc.), I just believe that he's still rusty and his brain is going faster than his body can accommodate right now (typical hoops RM). He's probably a 3 stretch 4 right now and maybe as his body catches up, and his hoops IQ (or rather the speed in which his hoops IQ is working' seeing a pass before it comes open, knowing your body well enough to know if you have room for a shot, etc.) comes back to him, he can plays the 1-2, but he's not ready. This is the truth. We used to redshirt RMs when they got home because it took an entire year for them to get their legs back... Just because Tyler Haws did it, doesn't mean it happens for everyone... Tyler is a freak of nature.. this is not the norm (ask RG III about Adrian Peterson... though I don't think either served a mission ;) )
What are we doing if we can't point out the truth and what are we doing if we can't point out when someone elses "truth" doesn't seem to jive with what our reality is. That's what happens on forums like this. In fact there'd be nothing here if it wasn't the case. If we all agreed all the time, it would be a very boring place to come.
