You are "the man" label king, judge, and jury. Who in life hasn't made a decision, found out it wasn't for you, and then took a different route? The college landscape is full of "quitters" both on the playing field and in the coaching ranks. Life in general is full of them as well. I will agree with one aspect of your quote....Great! Welcome Jamal! Looking forward to seeing you on the court come December 2014! Go Cougars!

I think Mr. Jackman was being sarcastic.

So very much hope this is a situation where JA got to UNLV and realized the lifestyle wasn't what he wanted, but knew he could get at BYU.

Really looks like he has game.

Please bless this will be the end of the Bronson Kaufusi experiment (next season, that is).

A little more detail. Aytes will join the team in three weeks (January 2014), and he will be eligible to practice. This will add some competition, toughness and improvement to our front line which we will need heading into WCC play. He fills a void this team had at the power forward position - currently manned by Nate Austin. Because he can handle the ball and can run, he will be very good in the up-tempo, transition game of BYU. He is also a good rebounder, as are Austin and Collingsworth - so that will also help to fuel the fast break and keep other teams from getting second shots.

His mid-year transfer is similar to what happened to Matt Carlino. He will become eligible to play as soon as Fall 2014 finals conclude.

It's a crying shame that he didn't come to us originally. It would have made so much sense, we had the scholarship available and need a backup enforcing 4. This year and next year we need him the most, and next year he won't be playing for most of the non-con.

However, I think the writing is on the wall with Josh Sharp. We are overcommitted by 1 next year. Unfortunately we're also overcommitted by 1 when Aytes would be a senior. I'm not sure if Coach Rose is speculating now or if he's simply going to play it by ear in what is essentially 3 years from now (which is an eternity in the coaching and player ranks) an injury, an unexpected mission, a transfer away, etc. etc. I don't know what will happen, but it's clear with Dave Rose that if a player simply shows up for his scholarship and isn't improving, they'll be shown the door and that's fair.

Someone (assuming the RMs) might be asked to greyshirt for a season in 3 years... but Jake Toolson (who I 1st thought might be that guy is currently tearing up Arizona hoops to the tune of 20/10 which is unheard of in high school hoops at that high of a level) 30 pts/20 reb in a road win Thursday, 39 pts/16 reb last night. His cousin is Ryan Toolson who at UVSC averaged 24 ppg his senior year. Ryan was a big miss... by everyone (heck he was the Arizona high school player of the year and they won the 5a state championship... and no big offers)

http://www.wolverinegreen.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/toolson_ryan00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

AND he's still playing well professionally in the top euro league...

http://www.wolverinegreen.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/060513aaa.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We also better hope that there isn't some 5 star rockstar that skyrockets up the ranks the next 2-3 years because there's no room in the inn. Not the worst problem to have, the cupboard is hardly bare at BYU and it's relieving to know that he'll find a new home for a player that doesn't improve or simply doesn't cut it at the level BYU expects.

So will Aytes be a freshman or sophmore next year??

He'll basically have 3 1/2 to play 3 1/2 when he finally is eligible to be on the court. This spring and fall would be his redshirt year.

We will have to get under the 13 scholarships starting in the fall though which means someone has to lose their scholarship, someone unexpected has to go on a mission (Worthington for example), or Ryan Andrus has to leave early for his mission... however there's a logjam in 2016-2018 so what is most likely is that. 1. Josh Sharp or Anson Winder graduate this year and leave with a year of eligibility (they can even go somewhere with a grad program and play) 2. Someone that's currently penned in for 2016 does not have a scholarship and they greyshirt.

What could happen is a lot of different things. Aytes doesn't work out at BYU either, someone gets the boot for the honor code, Isaac Nielson is more Ian Harward than Nate Austin and doesn't cut it, someone transfers, etc. etc. etc. I have no problem with Aytes on board if he contributes right away AND there isn't some stud recruit that we can't offer because we're basically without a scholarship to give for 3 years.

Carlino was a double quitter and so far has worked out. I'm curious in what made him change. Averaging 9 mins a game your true freshman year isn't usually that bad and I can't imagine Dave Rice letting him slip through his hands if he was worth more playing time. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

What???? MC is a double quitter? How could he even pass an Honor Code Endorsement? He has "no honor". It "never works out" for those "quitters" who change schools.

I'm so glad some of our fickle, myopic, and self-righteous fans can spurn those that transfer out from BYU but wink at those coming in as long as it suits their personal, selfish, fan motives.

Personally, I'm glad a certain someone (who you are sarcastically referring to) "quit" on BYU.

Hypocrites: those who drove "He Who Must Not Be Named" out of town on a rail after tarring and feathering him. Then called him a "quitter", then welcomed with open arms any and all who come to our program after "quitting" another with far less reason to than HWMNBN.

It baffles me - the hatred. Did HWMNBN step on their mother's faces?

He is probably coming because he sees an opportunity to play. If he can play well in a physical contest and play defense - his dreams may come true.

Here's my rule. It's always ok to transfer TO BYU. It's never ok to transfer FROM BYU.

So depending on which category you fall, determines how I feel about your decision transfer. It's a pretty simple and consistent rule to follow.
