The entire team is soft. rose has recruited a bunch of soft players and they show it. This team gets passive when teams get physical with them and the utes just telegraphed to everyone exactly that. One of the reasons the 2010 team was so good is because they could play finesse or be physical and feel comfortable doing it. This team is strictly finesse and hates to play physical. We are going to lose a bunch more games just like this one now that everyone knows all you have to do is get physical with us and we will fold.

I am concerned that tonight's play which included no defense, atrocious FT%, inexplicable shot selection and lack of mental toughness is exactly how the team played after the Loyola loss last year. They played a terrible stretch of ball that when they got behind, they could never recover. This style of play continued until the NIT play. Hope that the ship is righted before conference play starts.

I am now really worried that OR, who is ranked and definitely better than the Utes, will blow BYU out similar to the way that the Cougs beat Prarie View A&M. Getting destroyed by a team that wasn't nationally ranked cannot do much for their confidence heading into the next game.

I am beginning to wonder if the way in which Rose encourages the team to play, fast pace - lots of 3s and quick shots - is de-emphasizing other aspects of the game which are necessary such as defense, FTs, and using an inside game to establish a presence in the paint. Additionally, Utah has managed to recruit athletes that BYU could use but apparently don't fit into the program's style of play.

Another thought before signing out, Tyler Haws said it best at post-game interview, " we have to find a way to score the ball when your outside shots aren’t falling. We didn’t do a good job going inside, we didn’t really play inside out." Hmmm, get Austin and Mika involved early instead of trying to win by shooting 3s. Drive to hoop and dish it off would be a good start,

I am giving up on the rivalry. The players certainly have. I will not watch another BYU vs Utah game in any sort. I'm done wasting my time on those games when BYU comes out flat and Utah plays way above their skill level, as demonstrated by their performances the rest of their season.

So you guys are welcome to talk about, watch and enjoy the rivalry. I'm done with it. I'm no longer going to watch or even post about it.

You could say I'm quitting on it.

Then the terrorists win... true blue baby, the tables will win turn eventually. I want to be able to say I never left when times were tough.

Hey, I think that terrorists would take offense to being called :utard: . ;)

So U wins 2 of last 10 or so, and Spiff quits. Times have been much tougher vs U in basketball and it wasn't all that long ago.

And didn't BYU win the last Deseret Duel?

U owns us in football. Otherwise - not so much.

Disagree; we have to find a way to score points, scoring the ball will do nothing for us except leave little lines all over it.

At least they would be leaving their mark :-)

This will be a telling week of practice to try and correct some weaknesses that were exposed against athletic teams. OR beat BSU which beat UT. St. Marys is undefeated and Gonzaga is favored to win the conference. Unless things change, this team is a little brother to the Zags and Gaels and will be lucky to sniff the NCAA unless they win the tournament or league. Presently looking very unlikely with current deficiency in defensive prowess. If Kyle and others can't improve on FTs they will never make teams pay for aggressively taking it to the rim. Hope JA and Kafusi add to the interior strength improvement when they practice.

In one of the reports Krystkowiak said Loveridge comes in the morning and practices shooting with his dad. Do any of our players do that? Maybe they are too busy with school. This is not the first game BYU has had shooting problems.

I remember reading about early morning shoot around between Haws and his dad. I don't think a couple extra shots are going help our guys this year shooting. It's tough to improve your site during the year. That comes in the off season. Something several of our key players have never had at BYU (Collinsworth, Bartley, Mika, etc.)

So I think we would be better served learning to play better defense that can be improved in season.

I'd be happy to hear of them coming early to shoot FTs
