Carlino is having a bad game, but at east he is looking to shoot the ball. Haws is doing his best impression of Cusick in the first half standing over in the corner and not moving. Not a fan of Carlino missing so much, but with Mika and Collinsworth getting stuffed and fouled with no call on every play, and Haws standing over in the corner being guarded not moving, there isn't really any other option.

How to guard BYU:

Mika: make him go left, but he still has a good chance. Foul hard to put Shaq at the line.

Haws: deny and make him go left because he can't.

Carlino: make him go right and play the shot because he never passes off a drive.

KC: do i really need to explain? Play 10 yards off and give him all the cushion he wants to shoot. If he does get around you foul the crap out of him because he's Shaq at the line.

Austin: he is our Rodman except Rodman could at least score from under the basket. Let him shoot every time he touches it.

I'd 2nd this.

This team is simply soft, offensively and defensively.

Pretty weak sauce flagrant 2.

Weak sauce or not, Mika was out of position and spinning in circles. Certainly not entirely his fault as Loveridge blows by entire defense and by the time Mika can even attempt to make a play he might as well have been waving a white flag. Brutal!

How to score on BYU:

Make your guaranteed open shot against the molasses zone. After you get the offensive rebound, shoot another open shot.

If you choose to attack the middle, you will have either an uncontested layup, an uncontested floater, or you can pass to one of 2 open shooters. No matter what be sure to give Nate Austin a high five as both of his arms will invariably be held straight up and still.

BAsically, BYU's defense has been standing flat footed and watching what utah does on offense the whole game. Lame.

This is why BYU needs BK. we have no muscle. Mika got the crap kicked out of him and then fights back a little and gets booted.

First time I have chuckled all night.

No muscle. No free throws. No set plays. No offensive consistency. No defense.

Very tough night for the Cougs. Tough day with the WBB loss as well.

And I'm done watching this hot garbage.

Rose needs to get Haws figured out, and pull him if he isn't being aggressive. He should be getting to the line 15 times a game with the new rules. He is being less aggressive now, even though the rules are more in his favor. There is no reason that he should finish a half only shooting 3 times and not being in double digit scores. Even IF Carlino made every shot he took tonight, we still would have lost by 10, because Haws didn't want it until the second half.

Rose needs to right the ship before conference play. Mika and Carlino are going to have off nights, but that shouldn't mean a loss to people with less talent (Utah, being included in that group). Loveridge was the better player tonight than Haws Carlino and Mika combined.

Just an all out awful game by BYU. Depressing.

What a disgrace this game was. Hang your heads in shame, Cougars. I'll go take this BYU shirt off now...

BYU needs to get right. Haws needs to get his head right and be aggressive.

That was just a good ol' fashioned butt whooping by your arch rival. The past few years basketball has alleviated some of the sting when it comes to Utah. Not this year. Oh well, Go Cougars!

Haws is soft. It's that simple. Any decent D1 player can lock him down. Most of his points come from FT's, which distorts his effect on the game. I say play Winder, Bartley, and Halford over Carlino and Haws for long stretches and see what we can get.

The status quo is clearly not working. I wonder if Rose is willing to make such a change or if he's content with another pathetic 3rd place WCC finish?

I wouldn't sub out Carlino, because he is the only player that can push the ball up the court consistently. Haws can push it up the court, but that would have to do with him moving - which he doesn't seem interested in doing.

I think that Haws is a good player, but I question his health. IF he is truly healthy, then he needs to get his head checked. He is too much a liability on the defensive and rebounding end of the court to not get touches and shots. Free throw shooting by everyone was abysmal, and the defense was SOOOOFT. I am glad that mika finally showed some cajones and toughness towards the end.

Those refs were super bad, too. BYU would get hammered on one end, and then they would call a ticky tack rebounding foul on BYU down the court.

That is the worst game that we will see the Cougs play all year, unfortunately it was against the Utes.

Sadly that line is beginning to sound all too familiar :~(
