Yes. He was up and down in those 4 road games. 25% in one of them.

better than his Ave in a couple.

I went back to the 3 home games before that. He definitely shoots better in Provo

My numbers don't show much improvement on the road. He shot 7 of 11 (.636) on the first conference road trip, and 20 of 35 (.571) on the second road trip. On the road in conference he is 27 of 46 (.587) but he is 26 of 36 (.722) in conference home games.

He is a much better FT shooter at home than the road.

If there is an ongoing FT discrepancy home vs away, it is all mental. This is something KC can fix, hopefully quickly as he gains confidence.

I have noticed better, more consistent form of late. Until recently he always had a pause as he brought the ball up from waist to shoulder height before he'd shoot. I have noticed the pause lessening. His form has otherwise been good. Hopefully that's something he and the coaches recognized and have been working on.

It is mental. The double digit swing in home vs away points noted on a separate thread is also mostly mental.

Basketball players are human. Home vs away affects most players. It is mostly mental if you include confidence, familiarity, and crowd distractions in mental.

I wish one of our data guys would calc the home vs away FT% gap by player as it would show what I irritated Hawkwing by trying to explain.

Teams in a position to do so, skew their scheduling towards home games. Those in a different position play more on the road - sometimes for money reasons. BYU did it for exposure reasons and to get games with big name opponents. Like foitball, those bad boys usually will not come to Provo. This affects points as shown in another threads. This affects free throw percentages IMHO. It affects wins and losses. Most really good teams almost never lose at home. Our only home loss was a very close game vs a very good team. And this is not our best team ever.

Yes - I am a broken record on giving up home advantage. Data shows why.

The National average FT % we compared to and came up short of in the other thread is a balanced number home vs away vs neutral because every single game has a home team and an away team or two neutral teams.

The BYU average prior to this home stand was skewed 13-9 away from Provo. That had some effect on BYU Team FT shooting %. Tough to calculate. Also tough, when comparing to our opponents, to track whether they played a balanced home vs away schedule, or a more favorable one.

I doubt Haws varies much at home vs away. He has the mental thing nailed.

My bad. Tyler Haws has shot these % in WCC games.

Home

91.7

90.9

92.9

100

85.7

Below his average only once. This is roughly 93% at home averaging the averages. A more precise # could be calculated by adding makes and attempts for each game as number of trips to the line varies.

A casual glance also seemed to indicate that Haws gets fewer trips to the line when playing on the road.

Away

88.9

76.9

100 on 6-6 not many trips

80.0

100 on 2-2 hardly any trips

85.7

88.6% and skewed by the low number of trips on the 100% games.

Conservatively a 4.4% swing for our most consistent shooter.

Spiff already posted elsewhere that the swing is much bigger for KC - 13.5 % swing.

It's been fun watching KC play tonight. He has always been our best player, but tonight he's got springs in his legs. I'd love to see some more put back dunks out of him this season. Maybe he stole Mika's hops?

A lot of fun plays tonight by KC ad several others. The team was aso 19/21 FT shooting in the 1st half. 22/24 early 2nd half. Then they got sloppy in garbage time. Mika was 5/5 then 6/7. That was nice. We will see how this carries to the road next week.

1-6 FT's early on. Austin with a chance to put us up 2 late goes 1-2. MC misses front end when it's 56-55 and 26 freaking seconds left. That's just pathetic. This was a gutsy win, but yet again horrible FT' shooting kills this team.
