I will be interested in seeing how BYU shoots FTs the next couple weeks home and away, because I think there uptick in FT% is more due to practice/focus than simply home court. I guess we will see soon enough.

I'd agree. I expect FT% over the next couple road games to be improved over season average road game numbers

Close this stupid thread once and for all. BYU is NOT an average FT shooting team this year!. Nice job gutting out a tough win tonight. Go Cougars!

No myths tonight.

BYU was terrible shooting FTs tonight. Pretty much every player. Even Haws was way off.

Not just free throws were off. FG and 3 Point shooting were off too.

Offensive rebounding and improved defense saved the day.

Who raised the rim?

Terrible. FT shooting. I suspect this was our worst FT performance of the season by far.

And yet, we outscored USF from the FT line. That was the margin of victory.

Eric Mike made an interesting comment about recent practices.

BYU has been focusing. Really focusing. Not very physical practices. Shoot around and focusing.

BYU may have been focused, but they were not ready for the physical style of play USF brings.

SF players pushed, shoved, grabbed, etc. In an attempt to throw Cougs off their game. I believe that the biggest impact they had was wearing out the team so that even FT shooting was a chore. KC was 2-8 (pathetic), and both Haws and Mika were 5-8 (mediocre). Had NA and Mika not taken advantage of SF doubling on TH and crashing the boards, team would have been blown out. These guys need to practice FT when they are tired, winded in order to simulate physical play. Future opponents will slow game down to half court style set, bully Haws, make team beat them from outside. If they don't improve FG and FTs against half court set, they will die.

Real BYU free throw shooting myths:

Students at Helaman Halls were awakened by the sound of a basketball clanging against the rim. When they went outside, they found what they described as a 9-foot, hairy, half-man/half-ape practicing free throws in hopes of making the team next season.

The Cougar starting five were reportedly abducted by some kind of metallic flying disc. Inside, little green men told them to stop practicing free throws or the world would be destroyed.

On a team trip to Scotland, the team found an enormous aquatic monster holding a basketball hoop in its mouth. Every time players would try to practice free throws, the monster would move the basket, causing a huge drop in FT%

While in New York, several Cougar players found something round and orange that they believed to be a basketball. They used it to practice free throws late into the night when a headless man on a horse appeared, took the object and placed it upon his shoulders, and cursed the players to shoot lousy free throws all season.

Some Cougars ballers dared their teammates to go into the bathroom, turn off all the lights, and say the name "Shaquille O'neal" into the mirror three times. Their free throw shooting hasn't been the same since.

This whole thread is a surrealistic piece of idiotic, time-wasting, Bib-bupkis. It just keeps reappearing. Quit giving it legs people. Bib is wrong about this issue.

Last night proved it. And if BYU doesn't almost miraculously rebound those missed free throws, they probably lose this game. And then the rebound problem would explode and Bibkus and this thread would be seen more clearly as a laughable fraud and as innane and incompetent as missing the four straight FREEthrows that could have sealed the game.

Your comment seems a little mean spirited - for this kinder, gentler CC world.

You lead the BB prediction game. If Bib is wrong about this issue then surely someone as wise as you must have predicted such a low FT output. Try to come back and clarify what you predicted. Clearly, I was wrong about last night. How did you do?

EDIT: Silly me. We do not predict FT shooting % in the Prediction Game. We do predict who will make the most free throws. We both picked BYU as data would suggest. We were both right. We do predict scoring, FG%, and 3 point %. We both did terrible predicting BYU offense. You scored 1 of 30. I scored 3 of 30. Maybe that is why you woke up in a bad mood. You did Excell at predicting that USF would shoot well. Kudos to you on that.

The entire point of this thread is that BYU is a very average FT shooting team. I showed you the data. Share yours.

Last night, BYU was a terrible FT shooting team.

Thanks for giving it legs, Coug's Rule in your request for others not to do so.
