Very nice win. We needed this one and the comeback confidence to boot. The home games are really going to help out the rest of the season. Great FT shooting for once by all, and way to stay in the game when things weren't going well!

Amazing how a game can go from 50/50 to win going away when making FTs.

They don't matter much to some.

FTs helped, but what really won the game was a huge second half of rebound dominance.

BoiseBYU, let me help you understand. Yes, Those rebounds helped. But the FTs were huge, especially for this "struggling to hit FT consistently team". 9 turnovers were also nice, but 4 in the first 2 minutes were bad. FG% improved as the game went on, really helpful when you want to win a game. Defense stepped up and got some solid stops in the second half, also instrumental.

If BYU wants to have any shot at winning the WCC or the conference tournament, or getting invited to the dance, they can't be a one dimensional team (offense first). All those little details (fts, boards, turnovers, defense, FG%) have to be there to be a dominant team. BYU is showing some positive trends lately though. Now if we could just get a more consistent interior scoring attack.

Of course, you already knew this. 8)

Was looking real bad. Our offense stinks the first 5 min.

So glad we beat SMC. Hope we repeat at their house.

What's up with Mika getting gouged, pushed and punched this season. Most abuse I've seen a player take.

I was wondering the same thing. That was the most out of the blue elbow I've seen in a while.

BTW, I get not starting MC. I don't get starting Halford. IMO, it should be Winder - better defense.

Would that someone be the guy that told you boldly that BYU FT shooting was immediately going to improve? Home Sweet Home.

Get Carlino in the game. Nobody out there is doing anything but pass to Haws and watch him try to score 50 again. That is not an offense.

Really. Carlino came in and SMC stretched the lead. Collinsworth carried BYU early. Carlino has another 33% night when the team shoots nearly 50% and you want more Carlino.

You could make an argument for more Winder. But, we got plenty of Carlino again tonight.

We must have watched different games. Carlino was in the game when BYU finally started making their run in the first half.

Winder shot 100% tonight. Halford 50%. Both contribute.

Even Bartley contributed, but I shudder every time he shoots - even free throws.

Defense held hot shooting, red hot 3 shooting SMC dramatically under their averages and you want changes on D?

I don't think it was defense. SMC just could not hit the broad side of any large structure last night from 3.

I know very little. I do know that every WCC loss we got out rebounded. In the first 10 minutes SM about doubled up on us rebound wise. During the second half blitz we out rebounded them 17-5 and ended up winning the rebound battle.

As is often the case in life, it was probably a combination of things. In the beginning they could not miss. BYU adjusted and forced them to change the kind of shots they were taking. SEC was on the road and the BYU crowd came alive as BYU started to close the gap. Rose substituted early and often and kept fresh legs chasing their guards and fresh bodies banging down low and taking fouls. This frustrated and unraveled their big guy and the guard that started hot ad then went cold.

Things will be different at their place. They will shoot 40% on threes and 73% FTs. BYU will gain confidence at home. Some of that will carry over to the next road trip. We will win the first road game. I just hope that swagger lasts long enough for us to hang with SMC in a close game.

We usually win the rebound battle. Portland out rebounded BYU by a couple.

I do not remember on LMU and Pepperdine. BYU played terribly all around in those 2 games.

I looked it up. We out rebounded both LMU and Pepperdine slightly. Portland out rebounded us by 3.

Both. He came in. The SMC lead continued to stretch. Then BYU mounted the comeback. Carlino shot 33% FG and 33% 3.

I watched the game really late last night.

SMC attacked us over and over to start the game. They were keeping Haws out of the game and they were using their athletic ability on the boards. Waldo is a load.

To me the game changed when Bartley came into the game. He is a wild shooter and attacks recklessly. He also got to the rim and a better athlete than their guys. He would he the rebounds and push the ball. They called a time out and suddenly KC and everyone was attacking and Haws adjusted. Then the momentum was ours.

Overall Haws was brilliant again.

KC's size on his drives they had no answer for.

Carlino was good again-mostly under control.

Winder gave us some good minutes.

Halford showed up in the second half.

Mika was a warrior tonight against Waldo.

Worthington still panicked when has the ball but his effort was huge to give Mika some rest.

Overall a good team effort once we woke up.

Btw Austin needs to look at the when he catches the ball. He is a capable shooter.

We have to figure out these slow starts.
