And to think, some want to get rid of Wyoming in favor of Fresno St. :P

Way to represent, Wyoming. 1 down, 4 more to go for the MWC this bowl season.

1 down, 3 more to go. I'm pulling for Cal. Conference status is hardly a reason to pull for a Puke win.

Oh, wow. I apologize BYUROCKS. It is not my intention to attract enemies. I comment so very little and, true, my intense dislike for the Pukes is something I cannot shake. But my comment above has nothing to do with "hating Utah more than liking BYU." It was a simple statement, shared by many and not shared by many, that I am pulling for Cal on Weds. It's only the 2nd time this year I have pulled for a PAC-10 team. I don't even need to spell out when the other time was. (Oops! 4th time. I did pull for SC and Stanford over the Domers).

I have mellowed a lot over the last few years. I guess I haven't mellowed enough though, if you notice my deep bias. So I do apologize to you and to anyone else I might have offended.

If I watch the game, I cannot help but root for any opponent of the Utards, but if I pay no attention to the game, then I can be happy with a MWC victory. My strategy is simply to ignore Utard bowls altogether.

This does throw out the question, would adding Fresno St. really help the conference? Maybe there could replace one of our bottom dwellers, that is it.

I can't tell you how many times I've argued against adding Fresno State. I could probably stomach the addition of yet another trashy/thuggish fanbase (ala Utah & Wyoming), and I might even get over the general air of dirtiness surrounding their program if I thoought they were going to be any good year in and year out. I see no reason to add Fresno State. If it's respect were looking for as a conference, Fresno State is hardly the program we want to associate with.

Way to go Pokes--beat a Fresno State team whose four losses were Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Boise State, and Nevada!

It's sobering to think that with that win, Wyoming has won as many bowl games in the past 10 years as BYU has! Hopefully that fact will be no longer true after Tuesday.

I've said this a dozen times, but I am going to say it again:

ROOTING AGAINST THE UTES IS A FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT OF COUGAR FANS.

It does not have to be logical.

The "benefits" of the game's outcome are not a factor.

And as I've said before, the people who root against the utes enjoy the exact same "benefits" as those who root for the utes when the utes win.

So tell me, what possible benefit is there to blackening your soul with pro-ute sentiment at game time?

I'm still in favor of making a Wyoming for Fresno St. trade. One bowl win doesn't change the fact that Wyoming has one of the worst athletic programs in the MWC. Fresno St. has a much better athletic department and would provide a much better recruiting ground for the conference.

I just want to point out that when one looks at the self-designated "Fan Level" of these two “combatants” we have someone whom merely identifies himself as a "BYU fan" calling out someone who identifies himself as a blue-goggled BYU homer, and the “fan” is accusing the blue-goggle guy of not being a sufficient enough fan.

FWIW Rivals all across the world refuse to root for their rivals, the good folks at Utah don't have a lock on that trait. So it’s not completely accurate to say that someone who refuses to root for their rival is “no better than the :utard:"

I propose that in the spirit of Christmas let's have the folks who think it is sacrilege to root for their rivals in anything, join hands with the guys who think that if you are unwilling to root for your rival when your rival's victory will somehow(?) help your team, you are not a true fan - join hands and celebrate mutual fanhood by not looking down one another's noses at one another.

Okay, I'll hold off in the spirit of Christmas.

Except first I have to point out the irony of calling someone out for "acting no better than the utes," while using the utard icon. :D

Everyone loves Irony, I hate Utah, but I want what is BEST for BYU, I am a bigger FAN of BYU, then I am a hatter of Utah, to many people get mad at Utes for hating BYU more then they like Utah, WE NEED ALL MWC TEAMS TO WIN ALL BOWL GAMES, that is what is BEST for BYU.

I'm just going to agree to disagree on this. I have heard many many arguments in favor of rooting for the Utes, and I have yet to hear one that persuades me to believe that a Ute victory over Cal in their bowl game will have any appreciable effect on BYU. If you believe that anyone of significance will connect the dots between the Utah game over Cal and some sort of “benefit” being conferred to BYU, then that is fine by me. I just don’t see it. And, ultimately I guess that is what the spirit of coming together at Christmas and celebrating our differences is all about!

I think it is easy to see. If the MWC goes 6-0 in bowl goes, and is 2-0 over the PAC10 in bowl games this year, that raises eyebrows and adds to the perception that the MWC is tough an deserving. If the MWC goes 0-2 v. the PAC10, that is just more fodder for those opposed to the MWC joining the BCS. Plus, end of year rankings matter in the BCS equation, so TCU, Utah and BYU all need to win to improve that for 2009, because it is part of the eval process. Last year we had 3 ranked teams, need 3 this year==and highly ranked. Fact is, if Utah wins, it helps BYU because it improves the MWC chances of being BCS eligible.

Quoted for truth.

The only rankings that matter were the final regular season rankings. As far as the current 4-yr analysis period, this year's data are already set in stone. What happens this bowl season is irrelevant as far as the MWC working toward AQ status.

So, cheer for Utah for MWC pride, cheer against Utah b/c, well, they're Utah, or be happy with a MWC win or a Utah loss. I prefer the 3rd option.

Where did you hear that ? last I read from ESPN, was that they took, end of year, but MOST important was after bowl.

Someone on Cougarboard (and I think here too, maybe) quoted the BCS language and provided a link. Feel free to go look for it, but from what I read in the rules and regs, it's based on the last BCS standings, prior to the bowls which, I know, makes little sense.
