If he'd done this during his campaign back in the day, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now. Looks like he learned not to pull punches.

Agreed. Hindsight is always 20/20. Mitt learned the hard way - never take your foot off the gas.

It was a great speech.

I loved it. Mitt kicked "heavy a$$." I wish he had done that in 2012 to that deceitful socialist.

But Hillary Clinton wasn't running in 2012.

Oh, you mean Barack Obama.

Agreed.

Perfectly said, excellent speech all around. Trump is the biggest fraud in politics I've ever personally witnessed and I believe will do more to harm the country than anyone else running.

Don't you mean that he learned not to not pull punches? Or he learned not to pull punches? I thought Mitt's weakness was that he didn't pull enough punches...

Anyway, one of the things that I like about Cruz is that for the most part he has taken the high road and has not attacked/criticized his opponents. Now, some are saying that this will cost him because since Rubio attacked Trump his numbers have gone up...

Unfortunately, the people backing Trump are those who are revolting against the establishment, and to them Mitt is the face of the establishment right now, so he's not moving the needle with those folks. Hence the point of his message--let's get this to a brokered convention. Noteworthy was his refusal to back a single alternative-to-Trump candidate, instead pushing for a brokered convention, which is where Mitt's last best chance at a third run lies.

What exactly happens in a brokered convention? I really have no idea.

If no candidate has enough delegates, the delegates become "unbound" by the results of their primaries/caucuses and they re-vote however they want to....over and over... and over until someone crosses 50%, and they aren't limited to candidates who were on the ballots. It could be Joe The Plumber.

Joe the Plumber might be a decent choice comparatively.

A brokered convention is one where in the first vote, nobody wins, then wll the delegates are released from having to vote for a certai candidate. If Trump can't get the magic number of 1200 and change, then it's anybody's game. Shoot, Schmoe could even be chosen.

Exactly. Mitt Romney decimated Obama in the 1st debate. Then took his foot off the gas and went soft - accepting - understanding. BS. It's always the same mistake in every movie - they go soft on the bad guy and he escapes to live and wreak havoc again. LOL!

But seriously, when you get a socialist down - go for the jugular. No quarter given - they never do. Liberals never compromise. Liberal socialist democrats need to be squashed because they never stop eroding our Constitutional freedoms, growing govt, and raising taxes - never.

Mitt gave a forceful articulate speech that totally dissembles Trump. It won't affect the Trumpies, but I do not think that is the focus audience. The audience this speech was directed to is the 60 plus percent Republican voters who aren't Trumpies and also the conservative independents out there (like me) who may register Republican just to vote against Trump. When one of the most respected Republicans speaks out on the leading candidate of his party, people will pay attention. Much respect to Mitt. America cannot afford an unhinged commander in chief.

Trump wasted all his energy today attacking Mitt that he didn't have any left for the debate. He was awful tonight.

Last night's debate was like a bunch of pigs fighting in the mud.

Personally, I'm tired of the entrenched oligarchy in the Republican upper echelons. If the Dems win the election, I doubt much will change in the powers that be. They will continue being do-nothings they have been for a long, long time and treating the unwashed masses as a bunch of pariahs.

I feel if Trump wins, those bloviating POSes will get a wake up call and either change or the party dies.

Yes, I know there are those who say if Trump wins the party dies, but the beau monde of the GOP have been a pretty feckless group of arrogant dissemblers for a long time and it's time the party changes or it dies.

If Trump wins the country dies.

I don't think it's worth killing the constitution to shake up the Republican party.
