PS-What exactly did BSU do to DESERVE to play Oregon twice and Oregon St once in the years that they won ten games? Oh, that's right, they scheduled them and got to play them on a good year.

Just like the two years that USC destroyed us, and Notre Dame blew us out on the road. BYU has had their chances, they've just blown them.

Notre Dame only won 9 games that year....not that it makes BYU look any better. ;)

I motion that the Crowton years post-Luke Staley be wiped from the collective memory of BYU fans. I call "mulligan."

I would think that over the years BYU has by far the most wins over 10 win BCS or equivalent (back in the day without BCS) teams. Anyone have the numbers on that?

Well, there was Miami, and... maybe Kansas State? Maybe Texas A&M?

So in what year did BSU get completely destroyed down at Georgia? I thought it was more recent than 2006/2007.

BYU has only 1 win over a 10 win "major" team. That was Miami in 1990. They tied Iowa in 1991. They have 11 losses against such competition the most recent was BC in 06.

What was Kansas St.'s record in '96?

They were 9-2

Oh please, when was the last time that a good BYU team had a shot at a ten-win BCS school?

I would equate a 9 win team when 11 games we played equal to a 10 win 10 with 12-13 games now. 9-2 was really good.

BYU also beat a good Penn State team in Provo. BYU has more wins against more top teams than BSU has at this point. BSU has come far. The trick will be to see if they maintain it over a long period of time, not just a 5-10 year window. Let's see how they do over a 3 decade stretch. Because that is what tradition is--sustained excellence.

BYU is 24-72-1 against all 9 win teams in their history

24-52-1 since Lavell

3-21-1 against "major" conference teams and Notre Dame with 9 wins in a year.

BSU is 19-16 vs. all FBS opponents who won at least 9 games

They are 4-7 against 9 win "major" conference teams. They have won their last 4.

Yep, that's what happens when you played in D1 during a time when parity wasn't nearly as widespread.

I'd be interested to see the stats- not questioning it, just too busy (or lazy) to go look for myself. Seriously, I'd like to see it. In many ways this could be a better argument for respect than BYU had for the many years of dominating the WAC.

BSU right now, I believe, gets more respect than BYU ever did, but I would hope they realize they get that respect because BYU paved the way.

BSU is good, but not that good.

2001 Fresno st. beat 10-3 Colorado 24-22

2003 Northern Illinois beat 10-3 Maryland 20-13

2003 Memphis beat 10-3 Mississippi 44-34

2003 Marshall beat 11-4 Kansas St. 27-20

2006 BSU beat 10-4 Oregon St. 42-14

2006 BSU beat 11-3 Oklahoma 43-42

2008 East Carolina beat 10-4 VaTech 27-22

2008 BSU beat 10-3 Oregon 37-32

2008 Utah beat 12-2 Alabama 31-17

2009 BSU beat 10-3 Oregon 19-8

2009 BSU beat 12-1 TCU 17-10

Why limit it to BCS schools? If you look at teams that beat non-AQ schools with ten wins the picture will be different.

Exactly. When BYU was losing to Boston College in 2006, Boise State was beating the Big XII champ. While BYU was losing to another middle-of-the-pack ACC team in 2009, Boise State was beating the PAC-10 champ.

What did he say that is wrong? Boise State has beaten BYU twice, TCU twice, and Utah once this decade, including all 3 on their home fields...

They have only beat TCU once.

Yes, BSU has defeated TCU only once since the last time they beat them in 2003.

Why limit it to BCS schools? Because that's what we are talking about!!! As you can see, it's a rarity that nonAQ schools beat 10 win BCS schools, unless you're BSU.
