WickchadHopefully he actually is able to return next year if he wants to. I heard rumors that the main reason Staley decided to go pro was because he wasn't going to qualify academically anyway.

My "totally reading between the lines and making assumptions that are likely baseless" read is this:
The updates on the situation throughout this waiting game indicated that Harvey was facing strong pressure from family and friends both ways. According to the Des News story, Harvey just recently got back his NFL evaluation. This morning, Harvey's dad told the DesNews that Harvey was coming back to get his degree, set records, and help the team.
My baseless read is that it might have been Harvey's dad that was pushing for him to stay in school, and when Harvey decided to go pro, Dad decided to take a last stab at getting Harvey to stay by 'leaking' that he was staying to get the expectations of the Cougar faithful up and put pressure on Harvey not to back out.
Just my conspiracy theory side shining through.

If Harvey stays, I'm assuming by the time he finished the year he'll end up the winningest running back in BYU history and his rushing records will be next to impossible to break- he'd go down with the legends at BYU :)
If he's nothing but a 5th 6th rd pick, I think becoming a legend at BYU has it's dividends.
This is very exciting news if it's true.
Considering a chance we have a running qb, the offensive line we have coming back, I can see how tempting it would be for Harvey to come back. 1500-2000 yards isn't impossible.
He has to know he'll be the centerpiece of the offense. He could leave BYU with 5,000+ yards rushing and 60 touchdowns. (he has 45 td right now) - I can't imagine those records would ever be broken.

Like I've said before, I always felt like he would stay to earn a degree because of the meaning that has with his parents.

Looks like Dad jumped the gun. Jay Drew texted Harvey, and Harvey said he had not made up his mind yet:http://blogs.sltrib.com/byu/index.php?p=9040&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
My read is that Harvey is NOT coming back, based on this last line of the text exchange: "I gotta talk to coach mendenhall about some stuff b4 I declare for sure!!"
Like Drew says though, you be the judge.

If you go further up in that same text from Unga, it says he's thinking about coming back for school stuff. I think "b4 I declare" means declare which way he's going to go.

It'll be fun watching Harvey run all over Utah's rebuilt defense next season.

I still get a kick out of that video of Unga flattening what's-his-mouth the :utard: to go into the end zone. I was in that end zone that game, and I went nuts when I saw it!
P.S. To this day, it is my background image on my monitor.

I hope he returns, but I say go to the NFL if the report is favorable.

Mine too.
That was Robert Johnson, #17, strong safety IIRC. That is also perhaps my favorite BYU football image, and I would like to know where to find the modded version where the background is black and white, but Harvey is in color. Harvey is looking back at a crumpled Johnson, with a bemused look on his face as though thinking "did I just hit something?"

It was actually Steve Tate that he ran over.
