Jesus commanded me to be, so I'm sure trying, and repenting where I fall short. Why?

someone told the Schwenke's that if Kona took the ND trip, it meant he could not be trusted to keep the HC. I beleive it was Bronco. That is a leap and a rash conclusion, and is totally unfair. The HC is not an axe to wield. I do not agree with it at all.

How dare Bronco suggest that if a kid doesn't honor his commitments he may not be able to keep his commitments? :utard:

Haha, well so far, in this debate, he has been perfect near as I can tell. 8)

i totally agree with Lawboy here and believe#1,these are 17 and 18 year olds who will never again quite possibly be able to have the prospect of being fawned over in this fashion, and that in itself would present a very 'tempting' scenario for these kids[read the DP explanation of whty he had contemplated taking this trip despite being"100% comitted"],and #2,as this kid's father I would have a very hard time with being told by Bronco, IF it's true, that my son and I couldn't take this trip to ND without having our motives being impugned as dishonerable. It is NOT a violation of the NCAA rules for him to trip to ND in this manner.#3, and then to have Bronco suggest,IF he did, that taking this trip to ND would be predictive of his ability to live the honor code in the future is a real strong arm tactic that I would definitely resist and would be in the words of Mckay "dissapointing",i think you could also say repugnant. It does make Bronco look petulant, IF it happened as the father is reporting, and further makes him look like a jilted lover who's saying "ND aint doin"this to me again so there".this is what recruiting bigtime athletes is all about, unfortunately or not,so if we're playing in that game then better get used to it.

1. Exactly why Bronco didn't want him taking the trip.

2. I don't think this started with the ND trip. I don't think that Bronco would have reacted the same if it had. I don't think that he said the same thing to Phillips. I think that Bronco saw the writing on the wall and decided to put his foot down now,to avoid another Teo deal, not out of vindictiveness, but out of pragmatism.

3. If you had been dealing with this situation for months, and it was down to a point where you couldn't respond after the possible defection, and you had had other conversations about the follies involved, wouldn't you start questioning the person's honor, and give him an opportunity to make the decision whether to be honorable? Refer to my other posts about salesmanship)

Isn't Bronco inferring how badly he wants Kona by saying that he doesn't want him tripping to other schools? Kona already committed for heavens sakes! If Bronco didn't care about Kona possibly committing to another school then he wouldn't have cared. Can you blame Bronco either? Kona's teammate decommitted to go somewhere else.

If I were in Kona's shoes and BYU was my firm choice and Bronco tells me not to take a recruiting trip to another school even though I have a good friend or relative there and explains why then I wouldn't go. I have already committed and BYU is my dream school. Why would I want to risk my scholarship for a weekend to see a friend or relative? Not going would be an easy decision. Now, if my commitment was wavering then that's a whole different story.

I know that the head coach is the man in charge, and as such is used to being in control, and is expected by the University, the alumni, sheesh by everyone in the universe to be in total control of the program at all times. This just looks to me like a time when Bronco might well have taken a deep breath and allowed the kid and his father to make the decision wether to go to South Bend,or not.I have taken a brief straw poll of one of the greatest BYU football players in the history of the program[sample size of 1]this afternoon, and he agrees that Bronco may have overplayed his hand on this one and placed us in his words "too far outside the box",and acted too much "like an elite school that can play by different rules than anyone else " with re to recruiting with this decision,IF it came off as Mckay said it did.His words.

I think Bronco took a chance. You win some and you lose some. Bronco was probably thinking Kona wanted to play for ND. Bronco has lost out in the past years to recruits from Hawaii and now he's taking a different approach. Maybe this is something Bronco learned what not to do for the next time.

Just like Kyle W.(as a rookie head coach) kicking an onsides kick against Wyoming after Utah was killing them. Kyle has never done that again.
