I should have seen that coming. I do it to my kids all the time, but I thought we were a mature group. ;)

Nothing seriously wrong happened here - horrible timing and perhaps this change of heart was poorly handled by Kona and his family. Kona had the right to change his mind, but should have uncommitted as a courtesy, given up his scholarship, and been accountable for the decision before taking the trip. All minor wrongs.

Bronco had the right and responsibility to pull the scholarship and make the best use of it for the team, especially in the short notice situation he was put into by Kona, and get value to the team by trying to get a player that wanted to be here, that BYU wanted, but for whom they had previously had no remaining scholarship because they were holding this one for Kona, who had committed to them.

Kona and his family may have been dreaming about an opportunity like ND or UW for a long time, and after ND or UW may have missed out on someone they wanted more than they wanted Kona, they made a late push. You can't fault them. Hopefully BYU is making a late push for someone as we speak.

It will hopefully work out well for everyone. From a football perspective, for Kona, it will. He will go where he really wants to go. For BYU, it might - but wow - what short notice. From a missed spiritual and eternal opportunity perspective - only God knows what is best for Kona and if Kona keeps praying, God will let him know what to do in his future decisions.

Go Cougs.

Don't want the kid, don't want the kid, don't want him.... He and his family are exactly the kind we just don't want. What a stupid, stupid, stupid family- I am so proud of Bronco, what a stud, this mentality of "I don't care how good you are" sets BYU recruiting, BYU football and essentially BYU apart from all the rest.

Winning is what sets you apart from the rest. You lose, no one cares, no one notices and how you approach it really does not matter because you get fired. Ask Crowton. I like the Bronco approach, but I liked the LaVell approach too. Both won, did it slightly differently. Not just one right way to get it done.

As for calling the Schwenke family stupid, I disagree with that. Name calling helps no one, is not right. I think the kid and his family made a mistake, but it was theirs to make and live with. Not mine or any one else's on this board. No reason to personalize it.

my only problem with this situation is that the schwenekes are acting like it is villanous of byu to follow the precedent they have set, and that alot of other schools follow. They know the rules they should follow them, not call them "ugly" things. Other than that may he be happy and succesful wherever he ends up.

Sure, I take the "stupid" back, you're right, no need for name calling, but as far as winning setting you apart from the rest... that couldn't be any more wrong, especially with BYU, winning is NOT the number one priority. Teams win all the time, every week, tons of schools with 8-9+ wins a year, they are just like all the other 118. There is a LOT that sets BYU apart from the rest other than winning.

Yeah. Losing got Crowton fired. It had nothing to do with recruiting degenerates and rapists.

Maybe we should create a Schwenke forum since 95% of the threads and posts have been about this instead of football this past week.

That's strange, I could have sworn that Schwenke played football, and that the threads were about football recruiting at BYU...

I agree. I don't like villanizing Schwenkes, but I really don't like them or others villanizing Bronco for living up to his word.
