Nah there was nothing physical. Except for pushing him out of the way as they rushed the field, and that happens. Plenty of verbal abuse though (much past giving another fan a hard time), some of which other BYU fans tried to stop the more offensive fans. So I was proud to see that. I try to stay as neutral towards Utah as I can, its my best move as family is split 50-50 down the middle by fans.

My hope is that with Utah's split to the Pac-12 that the rivalry mellows a bit and becomes more of a friendly rivalry . . . especially since so many of us work with and are neighbors to each other before and after the games. (and if that doesn't work then I'll hope for world peace :) )

My brother came with me to the BYU-Utah game last year at Lavell Edwards stadium. He graduated from Utah and is a major fan of the University, but really just wanted to see good football. He took his beatings from the crowd. I also remember going to a game at RES when I was younger. I watched a cougar fan come up behind a Utah fan that was being rather obnoxious (not obscene) and deck him in the back of the head, and punched him while he was down. My sister also played in the Utah band and was shocked at the things that were yelled/thrown at her as they were lining up to play at halftime in LES. While I am a BYU fan myself, and currently attending the school, I have a hard time setting BYU fans on a much higher plane then most.

Oh, I have plenty of unsubstantiated anecdotes as well, too bad they don't matter and are usually false.

Yeah, those anecdotes don't ring true to me either.

Because my purpose to lie here would be what? If you don't believe me send me a PM and I will send you my brother and sisters phone numbers and you can give them a ring, and verify my heinous stories. Or you can buy me lunch and I show you pictures of me at the games if your so interested, perhaps to prove my authenticity to such apt critics we can have a little PPI.

I was merely sharing some experiences of mine from the past. I was not saying that Utah fans are better. The attacks on religion are shameful and gameday 2004 in front of RES was one of the more enlightening mornings of my life. But BYU is not the ideologically superior in all aspects. On average, I am proud to be a BYU fan and don't think there are any problems except for when it comes to Utah and maybe the Basketball tournament in Vegas.

you would give out your siblings' phone number to random strangers online? You are either:

A) lying and now bluffing

OR

2) a terrible brother

:) ;) :) ;)

haha well they are the utah fan side of the family... Personally I vote for the lunch. Maybe some nice brick oven. If I cannot base my opinion of personal experiences what should I use? the perceptions of other fanboys on the internet? That seems like a much more reliable foundation.

ha due to the fact that I am not the one doing the investigating I shall leave the bill to you my friend. There is a reason why I live in the cheapest apartment complex I could find, and its not because I can afford the brick oven. Only time I get some of that is when the summer sales companies offer to buy it for listening to their lovely presentations.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. First guess is: Yewt troll. All of your posts have been stirring the pot so far, across multiple subjects.

One of the main reasons that my wife is not more of a BYU football fan, even though she graduated from BYU, is because of the BYU fans she was around when she went to the football games.

At the LV Bowl this last year, we had a drunk BYU fan who was consistently being annoying and disrespectful to the Oregon State fans who had not said a word to him. I almost convinced myself that he must be a :utard: trying to give us a bad name.

The sad truth is we have some bad fans. How many I don't know. But they're out there. And maybe we need to set them straight when they start giving the rest of us a bad name.

Absolutely need to put him in his place. Esp if he was drunk. If he's just a pissant, then that is a different albeit similar story.

I am all for loud cheering for your team, yelling, screaming or anything like that, but i hate it when it gets personal toward opposing fans or players. One thing i do hate about some byu fans is when they boo our own team or coaches. These guys are young men doing the best they can and noone ever deserves that kind of treatment from their own fans (unless we decided to kick onside while up by 40- then i'll join in the booing).

I reserve the right to boo however, and whenever I choose. I give them a ton of praise, but if they do something stupid, why not hold them accountable? Robert Anae choosing to throw and bounce Unga outside the tackles, thereby causing us to lose in 2008 and set the pUkes up for an undefeated season (and a Pac invite) should get loud cheers from me? Nope. Not now, not nevah. They get paid to do this. If your waiter sucks, because they bring your food cold, and never refill your drinks in an empty restaurant, you have a right to complain.

You have every right to boo your own team, but I think it's a classless thing to do. You don't have to agree with every decision the coaches make, but I fail to see any benefit to booing a bad coaching decision. Booing the players is even worse. They make mistakes. It's not like they intentionally fumble or shank a kick.

I also fail to see a correlation with your waiter analogy. When you start dressing up like your favorite restaurant, start following your waiter on twitter or Facebook, start counting down the days till his next shift and wait for him in the parking lot to get his autograph after a late night shift, then you can start making some comparisons ... Of course, then you'll be weirding me out and I won't want to listen anyway.

hahaha... you know me too well. I should change my s/n to "Waiter Stalker"

I don't boo the players. I boo the coaches if I ever feel the need, which isn't often. I just don't see how they are "untouchable." They are getting paid to do this, and if they do a bad job, we - as the people that are paying a portion of their salary (season ticket holders, boosters, etc.) - should get some sort of say on how we think they are doing. It's one thing to be a stupid fan because it is 4th and 4 and you boo when they send out the punt team, but it is another to take everything they say and do as the Word. If Anae makes a series of stupid decisions, it is my right to boo him at the stadium, or to get online. That is all.

I agree that there are several rude/obnoxious and perhaps even violent BYU fans out there... to believe otherwise is as naive as believing that there are no BYU students who drink or have pre-marital sex.

I definitely disagree with you saying that BYU fans aren't "superior" in terms of their behavior to other schools... did you grow up outside of Utah, or ever attend another school's game? Trust me, BYU fans are much more civil than most.

Either way, I won't condemn you for your stories, call you a :utard:, or accuse you of lying. I'm sure - in fact, I know - there are plenty of BYU fans out there that can be asses at the games. But when it comes down to it, I'd feel MUCH more safe as a :utard: in Provo than I would a  in SLC.
