Some might say that's because I'm a Heaps hater, but it's actually because I am a firm believer in Heaps' upside. If the kid is as good as advertised, why take one of his four years of eligibility and use it on split snaps? I would prefer getting as many full years out of him as we can.

I know people are worried about him transferring or Bronco not giving him a fair shot at the starting job next season, but both of those notions are hogwash. The first sells Heaps and his character short, and the second ignores the fact that Bronco has replaced an incumbent with an underclassman in the past.

If Heaps is going to play, raise the stakes to all in and don't monkey around with the two-QB baloney. The times it works are the exception, not the rule, and we don't have anyone on the staff with a history of making it work. If you have that little faith in Nelson's arm, but feel like you really need his legs, Lark's arm will do just fine for half of a season. Don't waste one of Heaps' years on this junk. Let him redshirt it out.

A Heaps redshirt has been my desire from day 1. However, I dont' think it will happen. In the case that it doesn't, then the 2 qb makes sense to me, with Heaps learning behind Nelson and ultimately taking over; his talent is too great to think he won't eventually supplant Riley after some time under center in real big time college games. But if you want to win the UW game, I don't see Heaps being the 100% snap guy and winning; he's not ready (which is no knock on him he's a true freshman; who is ready at that point?)

If we could have front loaded our schedule with patsies (aka the SEC and Big 10) then by all means, Heaps could handle the job. We're facing just the opposite; with a murderers row of an early schedule for such a young team. Nelson is older and more mature and could bounce back from adversity faster than Heaps.

I'm a Heaps fan and want a redshirt for him (as I would with any true frosh at that position) but I'm not sure that's going to happen. I'm okay with the Nelson/Heaps platoon to start the season. I wont' lose any sleep over it.

I'd put Heaps up against Philip Rivers, Matt Barkley, Terrell Pryor, Jacory Harris and several others. All started as true freshman, all had their struggles and all got better with experience. Some are more polished than others, but all could play.

A redshirt would be great though. I do not see it. Lark is not ready to be #2. And Munns is miles away right now.

100% agreed with both these posts. A RS Heaps is the best thing for him, but I'm not sure if it is the best for BYU. Is Larks a substitute for Heaps, I don't think so. Nelson would have to carry more of the load. I would be for a 50/50 Lark/Nelson split, with a RS for Heaps, but how many precious wins would that cost us? i think it would cost us at least one, if not two.

Brandon Gurney at TotalBlueSports sure seems to think that Heaps will get the nod, or at least that Nelson does not have it right now. His tweets today have been really interesting for sure. I do wonder what guys who get to watch the practices every day truly think. Most are probably too afraid to say it right now.

Heaps: 3 series today, all against the 1st string defense.

Nelson: 4 series today, half against the 2nd string, half against the 3rd string. 1 interception (3rd total in camp, to go along with 3 fumbles and 12 sacks).

More proof Nelson sucks and Cosmo has a poster of Heaps up above his bed.

I was surprised neither Lark nor Munns got a single series today.

Good catch on Lark. I wonder if he gets a few more reps tomorrow. I thought he's played well enough the last 3-4 days to earn a few team reps with the twos at a minimum.

Both Nelson and Heaps are looking really good right now, but Lark's completion percentage is 65, and Munns' is 70.
