Wow, Cougarfurr, you are a dick, plain and simple. Telling people to "grow up" because they have a different opinion than you? The only other sport that matters is mens b-ball, which is a far cry from football and a sport in which the WCC is quite strong. They don't have football, so no one would "ridicule" us for playing there. No one ridicules Gonzaga for playing basketball there, why would they pick on us? Sure, I think it would be better and easier to stay in the MWC if concessions are granted, but if someone sees it differently than me I'm not going to be a condescending ass about it.

Schmoe - you've given others a hard time and called names countless times before for disagreeing with your opinions. And so, with that, I leave you with that timeless phrase: "Pot, meet kettle." And hot damn does it apply in this case.

I mean seriously - how often do we see the term "grow up" - or much worse - on this forum. And then of course you respond by calling him a "dick." Are you seeing what's wrong with this picture yet?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that this was your fight. Name me the last time I called someone a name simply for disagreeing with something hypothetical. You could look at my exchange with Craig-O about FSU & UNR as an example of how I treat hypothetical situations and treat others opinions with respect. I don't get after people about ideas, I get after them about behavior, which is completely different.

I knew I'd get a quick response from you - you're the only who is up as crazy late in the night as I am.

Regardless of everything you've said - if you're going to argue that the "we shouldn't stay in the MWC no matter what! Look at what people are saying about us!" mentality isn't emotional - then what ARE you going to say it is? Logical? Ethical? Business-like?

It's emotional - and quite honestly, not much more logical than the bitter MWC fans who have been saying "We should all agree to never schedule BYU for any of our games if they go independent. Boy that would show them!" The bitter fans may want that (or pretend they do), but would UNLV, TCU, Air Force, or any of those teams actually decide to discard a free ticket to a packed stadium and a matchup against a ranked football team? Of course not. Just as well - Holmoe and co. are certainly not going to use mwcboard as part of their evaluation on whether or not to remain in the MWC if they are offered concessions.

If you'll look at my posts you'll see that I agree that staying in the MWC is the easiest and most seamless way to sort this mess out as long as we get concessions. However, if you look at other posts by other posters there are many strong, non-emotional arguments for going to the WCC and going indy in football. These arguments are not easily dismissed and those posters don't need to "grow up" or "think right" simply because they disagree with others about what COULD happen. Answer me this question, and I'm serious here, how many sides to a coin? There's many more ways than one to look at the world, and there's not always just one right answer.

PS - Yeah, I get paid to stay up all night and argue with you on CC, ain't life grand!

PPS - You guys are also right, I shouldn't have called Cougarfurr a "dick," I should have said that he was acting dickish, or what he said what dickely, or whatever (because I don't dislike him as a person, and I'd happily buy him lunch sometime, especially now that I've called him names and feel like I almost owe it to him), but the phrasing got y'alls attention so I guess it did its job.

Saying that the WCC is a decent option is absolutely absurd. Aren't you all sick and tired of being ridiculed for playing in a crappy conference? And yet you'd take a crapier one just because some PEONS like Fresno and Nevada screwed our plans??

I agree that going from an almost sure-bet AQ MWC a few months ago.....to losing yewtah...and then moving non-football sports to the WCC would be nauseating. BUT, what if we join the WCC in all non-football sports and go independent in football for 1 or 2 years.....and then join the Big 12 in football only, thus bypassing the Sunday sports issue completely. Would you take that?

I'm not saying that would ever happen (about a 0.012% chance at best even though the WCC would have no problem with it because they don't offer football) but my question is how far would you be willing to sell out all other Cougar sports in the name of promoting our football team and earning the school some $$$?

I'm not willing to sell out all other Cougar sports in the name of promoting our football team and earning the school some $$. In fact doing so, would fly in the face of those that say that this is bigger than sports and trumps money and football. (though let's be honest it's just as much about BYUTV as it is $$ and BYUTV does support the mission of the church, so it gets more complicated)

There is no soft landing for all other sports, and for some historically good sports at BYU, no landing at all right now (i.e. track and field)

Would Stanford be willing to sacrifice their non-revenue sports for football? No, in fact they embrace their dominance in the non-revenue.

There's nothing that the WCC offers that the MWC couldn't offer IF the MWC comes off their high horse and gives in to broadcasting concessions.

There's a lot that the MWC offers, like safety in a nationally viable schedule versus the insecurity of an independent schedule where the WAC and MWC might actually (in spite) refuse to schedule us now. Safety for all our other sports, and still a strong enough jumping off point, should the Big 12 come a calling.

The one thing I agree with a lot of the trollish BYU haters on the blogs, etc. is that BYU can do themselves a lot more favors by simply winning football games to increase our current profile and reputation. Let's put to bed the BCS boo-birds by staying in the MWC and dominating it with the new talent we have. Do that and the Big 12 won't be able to keep their eyes off of us. In fact it's the only thing that Utah has done right in the last 5 years, aside from being just enough non-religious.

The entire point of this thread is that at least hair Thompson has stated that he's working with BYU on broadcasting. Whether that's a lie or not, we'll find out in less than 2 weeks. If they give in to BYUs demands, then I have a hard time seeing an option more viable than staying in the MWC for the good of all BYU sports and our current football profile.

If they don't work with us, then we're as good as gone. I get that.

I would disagree, though as a basketball first, football second guy, I totally understand why you're angry here.

1- I think the WCC is a softer landing than the WAC was, personally.

2- It hasn't killed Utah's women's gymnastics program to be independent. It hasn't killed ours either. Being independent in track hasn't killed a very highly ranked Portland team, and that wouldn't kill us either. Pretending we care about track at all, of course.

3- There's something the WCC can offer us that the MWC can't: Football independence. Oh, and exposure in L.A., San Fransisco, Washington and Oregon... and maybe Hawaii.

4- There's no way, absolutely no way, the MWC pays BYU to stay in the conference but control their own home football game distribution. It's like allowing your wife to sleep with whoever she wants. At that point, you just give the ring back and call it.
