Sounds like the bowl tie-ins will be worked through ESPN.

I think they could open doors CT never could....just maybe.

Currently working on extending the Utah rivalry---ESPN wants the game.

I can't say enough about the quality here. Very impressive that it is so much better then the mwc. I like how they explained that espn resolved every single problem the mwc raised for byu.

utah byu rivalry game on espn every year. sweet. I don't see the intensity of the rivalry dying down at all at this point, only increasing.

I am not super excited about being in the wcc. sounds like its a long term deal as well. Hope we have some good outs though.

I'm way excited about the WCC. Perfect fit. A conference full of religious-based private schools. I don't see how it hurts us at all. It will actually expand our recruiting base in other sports, I think. How does it hurt us in basketball? I just don't see how it does. We would still need a lot of wins (or a conference tourney win) to get to the big dance, and we would still need to play phenomenal (sp?) to advance; just like previously.

Hooray for finding a cool niche, I say.

Again, confirmation that this deal happened because of espn promising to fill our schedule.

BTW, who the hell is channel 11 news?

[Aside] Just saw Jan Jorgensen tweet about his new blog. What a moron. That tweet is going to be buried deeper than Jimmy Hoffa by the time this presser is over.

Is there any clarification on what is meant by ESPN broadcasting? ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN 360? other?

Still working out BCS details. #14 or above, "we have a shot."

That's not saying much--that's the threshhold for at-large selections to begin with.

Have been working on independence for 5 years according to holmoe.

I'm okay with that. Doable. bowls know we will make them money. if we are in the top 14 (which we can be if we win with the strength of our schedule) we will get in.

The homeless sports (swimming/softball etc.) are looking for solutions, with input from coaches. Options = independence, different conferences etc.

I assume dropping them is a last resort because of Title IX crap.

[Sarcasm]So now after I spent all of those hours calling DirecTV telling them that I wanted the MTN, and finally got it, we are switching TV deals? Now do I need to start calling them again to get this "ESPN" channel on a decent package[/sarcasm]

The two buzzwords that keep coming up in addressing motive = access and exposure.

Monson is a tool still. But good question.

BYU has "agreements" with the WCC to address contingencies such as the Big XII coming to court.

Why did anybody nobody ask about how much money the espn deal was for?

K, Holmoe is done, and I have to get back to work. Signing off on the updates.

People at the MWC offices and the MTN Netowrk have to be swallowing their tongues. same with Comcast. ESPN is now the marketing arm of BYU football, like NBC is for Notre Dame.

BYU is going to be just fine.
