Sounds like Van Noy might want out...

What exactly has Van Noy showed us in practice so far to show that he should be starting?

I've been to a few practices and Van Noy in my opinion has the best pass rush of any of the linebackers. The guy is quick and is in the backfield in a flash. His effectiveness against the run I'm uncertain about but he caused a fumble the last time I was there.

I think he would be getting a lot more playing time if he picked up the attitude that Bronco loves...hustle, hustle, run, work. I dont know if its the natural way he moves but he doesn't look like he puts 100% into every play or every situation. Having said that, I noticed a huge improvement in this department from Spring practice to Fall camp.

I think he will see more time against teams that pass and as he continues to "show" unrelenting effort. I'm excited for him to get the defense down and on the field because the guy is a playmaker and that is definitely noticeable from practice.

Bronco had said early in the week they had to cut down on the number of LB's getting reps maybe they thought he didn't get enough reps in the week to be ready to play against the option. We have had LB's in the past that were tenacios against the run but could'nt pass rush or play in pass coverage at all. Not saying Van Noy is that type of player I think he is as talented as we have ever had at that position. But the coaches picked the LB's they thought would give us our best shot at defending the option. It didn't work and I have not heard one of them deny it.

Exactly. Being disgusted with your team after a disgusting performance does not make you a quitter of a whiner... especially when you know for a fact the guy starting instead of you isn't nearly as good or as talented as you are.

No, but implying you are ready to leave after not getting enough playing time and your team's first loss puts you squarely in the quitter/whiner category. Knowing Bronco, and reading between the lines of KVN's facebook comment, it's easy to see why KVN hasn't seen the field more.

Like Craigo said, if he's disappointed with playing time, learn the ropes, pay your dues and trust that the coaches are not going to keep you off the field.

I think what I'm frustrated about is that I was expecting KVN to be an integral part of the team this year. Instead, it sounds like (again, who knows what in the heck KVN was even talking about on facebook) Van Noy has NOT bought into the program he's a part of. I guarantee if Bronco caught wind of Van Noy's facebook stunt, the kid will be disciplined for airing out team chemistry issues on a public forum. Like others have said, it was definitely a bone-headed mistake. Hopefully KVN was frustrated about the game and just typing without thinking. Here's hoping his head is in a better state for this week and we can laugh about this thread in 2 years when he is an All-American. FSU in 5 days!!!

In my opinion, KVN is a non lds kid. BYU is a tough place to adjust to for kids like that. He mostly likely came because of Heaps, and if Heaps is going to be benched everytime he makes a mistake and you have to sit and watch the guy in front of you suck, without getting to play, I would probably want to leave also. Why burn these kids redshirt year for a couple snaps per game? Put them in and let them learn, he cant be any worse out there than Frazier. I dont know if this is the right answer but it makes sense to me.

remember when jordan pendleton mouthed off when he was a freshman? man, we should have sent him packing when we had the chance, he's not worth the trouble.

oh wait, he's the best player on our defense. chill out people.

This is why BYU teams with less heralded recruits often beat teams with better athletes. Hungry players are more disciplined and more coachable. Coaching the studs can be a bit like trying to herd cats. Fans exacerbate the problem. Is it possible that Penny as his friends call him was not yet ready as soon as he thought he was ready.

If I didn't love BYU, I would pray for bronco to play all of these freshman and am confident that the result would shut some of u up.

One of Penny's buddies plays for UW and felt he should play as a freshman. Once he got leveled on special teams during practice by an upperclassman, he realized that he needed to put in more weight, increase speed, and work his butt off. He led UW in tackles vs Syracuse Saturday. His coaches brought him to a point of readiness, which took linger than he thought necessary, but seems to have worked out well.

Van Noy removed that comment within 30 minutes of posting it on facebook. It's no dumber than 10-15 things I've said to my wife this week... not a story worthy of a thread

You're poor wife ;)

My mother in law is in town and staying at our home.

I've said, "don't forget that sunday is for NFL"

If your'e working til 5, who's taking your mom to the airport.

I know your mom cooked it, but she put onions in it.

Great, she spoils her granddaughter and I'm stuck cleaning up more toys for the next 4 months

etc. etc. etc.

If you ask my wife, KVN has nothing on me.

Seriously, this is simply a talented kid that said something in frustration. I have yet to see KVN act out on the field like a primadonna (when that time comes I'll change my tune)

One of the most frustrated and angry players in this last decade was Jordan Pendleton as a freshman, He knew he was good enough to be on the field yet Jaime Hill and Bronco had different ideas. Now he's the most complete football player on either side of the line. (apologies to matt reynolds, who I think is a bit overrated). I think these talented freshmen just need to learn to trust the coaches. The are coaches that want to win and they aren't type to make the same mistake over and over. If the upperclassmen can't handle the job, rest assured the others will get their shot. Bronco has never been afraid to play freshmen and he's proven time and time again that he will adjust his gameplan if something isn't working.

There's a reason he's won double digit games 4 years running. The freshmen just need to learn to buy in. Ultimately they will and KVNs blowup is again a blip on the radar. I'm guessing about 95% of college freshmen at one point in time thought of quitting or transferring. Eventually reason gets the best of them. I like the fact that some of the players are disgusted by losing.

Haha! I've certainly had my fair share of such comments.

We'll be a pretty special team in two years.

We'll all have to wait and see, but I think there is a good chance that KVN may have gotten too wrapped up in one game, just like many of us fans who had to back away from the brink. We shouldn't write off this season because of the AFA game and KVN shouldn't sell short his BYU career because of his second game.

Pass rushing seems to be his specialty and you don't need that against AFA. Against the cadets you need discipline and a complete knowledge of your assignments, which is probably his weakness right now. If KVN sticks around he will get plenty of opportunities to play and probably a lot this year, but just against opponents when his skills set is more useful.

I personally would be interested in seeing Van Noy play in the FSU game. Ponder killed us last year because he had all day to throw. We need to get pressure on him and force him to throw he ball quicker than he would like to.

Holy cow you all are a bunch of Nancy's! I am thrilled he posted what he did and hope he is still pissed off. In fact, I hope the whole team is pissed off!! If not then they are pathetic.

That was the worst outing in Bronco's tenure in every facet. I never thought I would say that after SDSU in 2005, but Saturday was worse. Coaching on down, the whole team sucked. I hope they are furious and hate losing more than I do. If not then this team will never amount to anything. This team needs some fire and quick.

Bronco will fix this. He always has in the past.

let's be honest, many of us - especially me - have been worried about having talented guys leave for not getting the play time they should be receiving. You can't say that KVG hasn't "earned" playing time, because everything we've seen in practice has shown that he's been doing well. Bronco seems to prefer playing seniority over talent. I've been afraid all along of losing some of the great recruits we've pulled in because of this, and it appears that those fears may come to life if something doesn't change quickly.

This has long been one of my biggest concerns with Bronco. He just doesn't seem to get it when it comes to playing the most talented players. It's my coaching pet peeve.

Wow, If i was bronco and Van Noy was really thinking of QUITTING (yeah, he'd be a quitter), I'd be done with KVN. Why post that garbage on facebook?

Because he is a dumb 19 year old ... remember when you were 19 ?

I never got a DUI when I was 19...

That's beyond "just a dumb kid."

And I could be wrong on this, but you were probably raised LDS. You don't know KVG's family status, the area he grew up in, etc. I'm not making excuses for him, but you're being short-sighted to pretend that you and him are on the same level in terms of upbringing.

I can't figure out what the G stands for in KVG. Mind helping me out? ;)

Can we please rename this thread if people are going to keep surfacing it?

Or can we just bury it forever? This thread has been a non-sequitor from the beginning.

An over-reaction to an over-reaction (not referring to the op, but many of the responses.)
