Leadership? :skeptic:

I didn't think we had any leadership this year.

I'm wondering why Jordan Pendelton isn't stepping up to a leader-type role???

Okay I guess I should have said experience instead of leadership. Although I do believe that Chambers has the potential to be a great leader on this team.

I'm sorry, but this season is now done. The team has no leadership and no discipline. They have no identity and don't know where to look for leadership. Bronco certainly isn't providing it. He's letting the players do it while he manages from afar. He's now stepping in when it's too late. I really don't like what this says about the team, its cohesion and discipline.

Kitic my friend, step away from the ledge! Just joshing, but there is still a lot of FB to be played and more opportunity than ever for someone to step forward and say follow me. This team does have talent, and speed, and coaches who have been around the block. Let's see what happens

Whooaaa!! A harsh judgement about Bronco when we don't even know the facts. There is so much information we do not know. Private conversations, Coaches meetings, factual info. we are not privy to.

I guarantee 2 things. #1 Bronco & the Coaching staff have their finger on this teams pulse. #2 They are frustrated with the developments thus far this season. #3 Bronco & staff have not written off this team or this season.

Have some faith. It may not all end up the way we want - but that's life.

I predicted when he was a freshman that he wouldn't make it four years at BYU. Hopefully this isn't the beginning of the end.

Wow!! Are you kidding?? The sky is not falling. O'Neall will be fine & better for it. Mama Chambers will make a few phone calls & get his head right. O'Neall will be just fine.

I have a bad feeling that last weekend might be the last time we see Oneill playing in a cougar uniform.

Wasn't a good sign when it sounded like he needed a new place to live quite suddenly. Hopefully if he is causing trouble he isn't involving any other players. Hopefully this screws his head on straight.

It is a 2 week suspension. It is not a 2 year or lifetime suspension. I read violation of team rules.

I am sure Bronco specified the housing change to give Chambers the best chance for success.

Go Cougs

IF they have moved him it was most likely to get him out of a situation that was not conducive to his success. Next, the sky has not fallen. I was looking forward to him going up the middle more but that will have to wait. But Wilson has shown some very nice flashes and as he and Jake work out more and more those flashes will start to become common.

As for Logan, I hope he can go. I am kind of in the camp of moving Bradley to FS and beining in Eason at CB. Looks like he will be in by default. Just remember the last two times the cougs started 1-2 they went 10-0 to finish. So it is possible to do and it would be a great ride if it were to happen but we have to keep in mind that this team is very young. I think the stat is that over 2/3 of the traveling team are underclassmen.

And as for OC, he is very emotional but he also knows how to make very good decisions (hence his blue uni :)).

Why is everyone so worried about this? It's O'Neil Chambers, people. What does he bring to our team apart from fumbles and personal fouls? Seriously. The guys is the most over hyped player to ever set foot on a BYU field. If you want to worry about something, how about worrying about the entire defenses inability to make a tackle as Nevada gets prepared to run for 300 yards against us? Or worry about every WR's inability to catch a football? What happened to Luke Ashworth? Dude caught everything last year.

In short, we have plenty to worry about. If it's academics, Chambers will be fine. He was smart enough to choose BYU, he'll get it right. I would liken his loss to the Colts losing Anthony Gonzalez.

Cougman, I don't usually call out posters by name but I think your comments are completely rude and disrespectful. O'Neill's stats so far are: 5 rec for 48 yards 9.6 avg. 4 punt ret for 45 yards 11.25 avg. And 8 ko ret for 142 yards 17.75 avg. Not bad for a team with a fairly anemic offense thus far this season! How many fumbles has he lost this season? The previous fumbles (OU and FSU were key but happened because of his effort to try and pick up more yards) I like his energy. I sometimes wish Bronco would let him and others for that matter, play with a little more enthusiasm (even if it is a little 'me' directed and not 'team' directed) I'll never forget O'Neill's first return in LES when he took it back almost to the 50 and was pumped and got the crowd into it as well! I like that aspect of football and I'm glad O'Neill brings it for us.

As for his suspension, WE DON'T KNOW what happened specifially. These are still young men who are learning about life. Let's back off and let the coaches do their job with them and be supportive of both the coaches and the student athletes at the stadiums when they play the game and on these boards when we have free reign to critique.

Go Cougs!!! (Esp. O'Neill--Let this light an even bigger fire in him to break one to the house!)

The kid is like 20 years old. Jeeze, people make mistakes. He is a stranger in a strange land, stuff happens. LDS need to stop acting like it is so easy for everyone to just live the way we do, when it is a HUGE cultural shift for many. We need to just get behind the kid, support him and his family, and make him love his time at BYU, not hate it because fans were idiots to him.

I trust Bronco. Said it before, will say it again. Seriously, these issues happen often at other schools, an this is the first year in 5 I can remember an issue. Which means Bronco has it covered. You Chicken Littles need to just go run and hide already while the rest of us deal with reality.

While I do believe things can and will turn around...Kitic's basic premise about leadership problems appear to be reasonable. The fruits of failed leadership decisions in the coaching ranks are pretty obvious. While I wonder why we had to waste the first three games of the season to finally admit to some of those things...I am hoping things change quickly.

Failed leadership? How many of you listen to BYU players interviews, listen to the BYU coaches show last night? If you haven't--Do. Then sit back and zip it. Bronco runs the ship, his players respond and get it. He

amazing how the sky is falling because people's opinion does not match what the coaching staff chose to do. Were you there every day to see what happened? No. They were. It is there job. Amazing.

Look back at the utah game from last year. His punt return and Andrew Richs interception are two of the biggest reasons we won that game.

Here's Chambers' biggest problem: he's black. And I don't mean this in any racist way. The problem is people associate being black with also being athletic and fast. BYU has never had a black wide receiver from Florida. So the average fan has assumed he must be a burner. A super star in waiting. Some one is big fast and strong - like Terrell Owens or Randy Moss. Someone who would just dominate from the day he arrived on campus. After all, he is black and from Florida.

OC is not a speed receiver, he's a possession receiver. The problem is he's not meeting what the average fan was expecting from him. So he's been disappointing, even though to a certain degree he has been very productive at times and at other times instrumental in winning games (Utah last year, great returns against UNLV, etc.)

But when things start going south - as they have this year - the fans look for people to blame. Who better to blame than someone who hasn't been meeting the expectations fans had for them. So throw in some drops and fumbles and unmet expectations (Gee, why isn't our black super fast, super stud WR from Florida totally dominating?) OC has become the fan favorite target to blame the woes of the WR position group.

You hear nary a word about McKay Jacobson who has gone from 9 catches for 259 yards and 3 TDs in the first three games last year to 4 catches for 39 yards and 0 TDs. (OC has gone from 13 catches for 118 yards and 0 TDs to 5 catches for 48 yards and 0 TDs). Even though it is McKay's production which has almost completely stopped. But McKay isn't black and isn't from Florida and isn't as easy a target.

OC has always struck me as a good kid, who suffers from the problems I mentioned. I have a feeling his mom is none too happy with him right now and she's probably taking more than adequate action to correct the issues. I bet OC comes back from suspension ready to play and contribute to the team.

Bronco does indeed run the ship. And he is a very good delegator of authority. He tries to develop leaders and he allows those leaders to fail at times and also gives them opportunities to fix mistakes before he steps in and does so. Bronco is a fantastic leader and his approach is very effective. It just seems at times that he might allows those to whom he delegates a little too much time to fix problems. I just wish sometimes he were a little quicker to step in and help make corrections.

He's much like Yoda. Yoda let Luke fail in raising the X-wing from the Swamp and in the dark side cave. Perhaps Luke could have benefitted from a slight assist in the Force when trying to raise the ship. But then, maybe he wouldn't have learned what needed to as quickly as he did.

That's Bronco. Maybe he should step in sooner - like I wish he would - but maybe those lessons really need to be learned. But at the same time, it's tough to watch, because like it or not, Bronco is paid to win football games. And perhaps he could strike a better balance between developing those leadership skills and stepping in before he has to step in.

Geez, Jan and Hans both lit Chambers up on air.

Jan said he is the most selfish player he ever played with and that he was/is a distraction to the team. :bug:

Jan needs to shut up already. Stuff in the locker room stays in the locker room. He can talk generally, but to go specific like that pisses me off.
