Jake Heaps taking responsibility for the loss

Heaps is taking responsibility for the loss at the podium right now. He says the rest of the team did enough but he fell short.

A couple of thoughts on that.

1. In a way I agree, but of course it's a team game and you win and lose together.

2. I like it, I think it shows strong leadership and I think it will pull the team together.

Go Cougars!

AS soon as I saw the title, I admired the guy a little more. Plenty of blame to go around, but at least he's willing to admit he was less than stellar tonight. And let's be honest, he wasn't BAD, just not good enough to beat one of the hottest teams in the west.

I really thought he found a rhythm in the 4th quarter. I'm still really frustrated at the WRs and TEs. Did a TE get a single catch today?

Yeah one of the TE's who's last name starts with a "M" ;) caught a nice slant for 10-13 yards or so. CAn't remember the name though.

The only "M" that ESPN lists with a catch is Matthews. Is he a TE?

Sure beats throwing your fellow players under the bus. This is a good sign that he is motivated to win and holds himself to a high standard.

It will also motivate his teammates to raise their play because they know it wasn't Heaps' fault entirely. I am not optimistic about next week's game, but I will be very interested to see how much improvement the team makes against USU.

Yes. He was recruited as a WR and converted to TE as he grew out of his original position.

He missed a lot of throws. I'm glad he's manning up but I hope he doesn't have to apologize any more.

Hopefully not, but I'm expecting it a few more times. It's going to be a learning experience for Heaps this year.

Mike Muhleman is also a tight end, I don't know if it was him that caught it but he does have an M for his last name. As for tight ends, I think somebody named Peterson caught a pass, and he looked like a tight end.

Matthews was who I was thinking of, he is a TE and he is a smaller TE.

Thank goodness Heaps has come to save our ailing program...

Ailing program we are not. Struggling team in 2010 we are.

Word choice aside, I'm just grateful that Saint Heaps is here to solve all our problems.

Ah come Schmoe...the kid is manning up...he never said he'd solve all of our problems--some of us posters have...but not him...his head is screwed on straight...it is just impossible for a true freshman to make that big of difference on a team that has too many holes....

I hope Anae and to some degree Bronco are taking notes. Maning up after a loss and taking responsibility actually earns respect as opposed to trying to skirt around the issue, justify a poor performance, pretend a mistake wasn't made or use fabricated lines.

Saying in the locker room privately is one thing, but saying it publicly is another.

Heaps understands the role of fans and the subsequent obligations he has to the fans. Well-played Heaps, well-played.

Gunk and others. Do any of you listen to the Coach's call-in show on KSL radio after the game. Bronco took full accountability for the 2 yard rugby style punt call. He has acknowledged that rotating QBs slowed down development of either. But if he hadn't rotated QBs, he would likely have gone with Nelson which would have even further slowed Heaps development. Keeping in mind that our usually stellar punter also has a 1-yard punt and a 12 yard punt to his credit - I am not so sure it was as much a bad call to have the rugby punter create the potential for a fake if the opportunity was open - as it was more poor execution.

After all the crap and Gunk I hear on this board about unimaginative play calling - well this was certainly imaginative. After all the Gunk and Crap I hear on this board about getting the young players on the field and letting them make mistakes and learn from their mistakes - Well that was a young player and hopefully he learned from the learning opportunity afforded him.

You have all been calling for more JUICE and you got to see more JUICE. Didn't exactly break anything huge, but showed some promise of things to come as he is groomed for a bigger role.

Hopefully - things go better Friday night in Loggieville.

I officially declare BYU 2010 football a "Rebuilding Year."

Rebuilding & development for a team that will be very good in 2012. I'm enjoying the progress. It's painfull to watch the slow weely process.

You hit the nail on the head. It's downright laughable the bull$hit that was being posted about Nelson after losses, blaming him for our losses and offensive problems, and then to see all the positives about Heaps after the same kind of loss. I don't expect him to be a worldbeater and don't think that he has claimed to be one, I just think that it's funny how the tune changes on these forums while the result remains the same.

Hmmm...have you read my other posts? Before criticizing me so pointedly, you might want to review them.

I've been in favor of playing the younger players, especially Heaps. I've been quite vocal in my expectations that this is a building year and to keep expectations low. To compare this year's freshman laden team to last year's senior team would be unfair. If you look at what else I've posted in response to today's game you'd see I was rather pleased with today's performance.

I have actually never specifically called for more JUICE; so, I'm a bit perplexed as to why I fall into your "more Juice" bucket.

Cougarbib, prior to this week Bronco has not done a good job with publicly acknowledging mistakes. Had he, half the posts on this forum would be gone. It wasn't until after the FSU loss did he really come out and admit that splitting reps with the QBs resulted in "poor execution" across the board. Anae's admittance to plunders as usual has been cryptic. Unfortunately, Bronoc now finds himself in a position where he has to win back credibility. Had he'd taken the bullets from the get go, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Heaps is a natural in front of the press. Bronco and Anae aren't and they would be the first to admit that. That's the point of my post.
