Ailing program we are not. Struggling team in 2010 we are.

Word choice aside, I'm just grateful that Saint Heaps is here to solve all our problems.

Ah come Schmoe...the kid is manning up...he never said he'd solve all of our problems--some of us posters have...but not him...his head is screwed on straight...it is just impossible for a true freshman to make that big of difference on a team that has too many holes....

You hit the nail on the head. It's downright laughable the bull$hit that was being posted about Nelson after losses, blaming him for our losses and offensive problems, and then to see all the positives about Heaps after the same kind of loss. I don't expect him to be a worldbeater and don't think that he has claimed to be one, I just think that it's funny how the tune changes on these forums while the result remains the same.

Difference?

Nelson = Junior.

Heaps = Freshman.

If Heaps had Nelson's experience, I think we'd be talking about them the exact same way. Unfortunately for the comparison crowd, Heaps practically gets a criticism-free year.

I officially declare BYU 2010 football a "Rebuilding Year."

Rebuilding & development for a team that will be very good in 2012. I'm enjoying the progress. It's painfull to watch the slow weely process.

So, it was Nelson's fault that we lost because he was a junior, but it's not Jake's fault that we lost because he's a freshman? I get what you're saying, that Nelson took criticism because he has more experience and somehow that means he's more responsible for what happens on the field, but it just doesn't make sense. The criticism that came Nelson's way was not about his performance specifically, no numbers or specific things that he could have done better, but just that he somehow should have been better and it would have meant a W. It's garbage.

Keeping in mind that our usually stellar punter also has a 1-yard punt and a 12 yard punt to his credit - I am not so sure it was as much a bad call to have the rugby punter create the potential for a fake if the opportunity was open - as it was more poor execution.

After all the crap and Gunk I hear on this board about unimaginative play calling - well this was certainly imaginative. After all the Gunk and Crap I hear on this board about getting the young players on the field and letting them make mistakes and learn from their mistakes - Well that was a young player and hopefully he learned from the learning opportunity afforded him.

Totally agreed here---I had no problem with the fake punt / option to punt. It was a gutsy move that they sealed off and he had to kick it and it didn't go so well. Bronco clearly said it had been money all week in practice and was a fluke that it went so bad. I don't think he should feel bad about it. Sometimes good moves don't always work out. It was a fake punt with an option to boot it if the fake wasn't there...I applaud the decision even if it didn't execute well.

I hope Anae and to some degree Bronco are taking notes. Maning up after a loss and taking responsibility actually earns respect as opposed to trying to skirt around the issue, justify a poor performance, pretend a mistake wasn't made or use fabricated lines.

Saying in the locker room privately is one thing, but saying it publicly is another.

Heaps understands the role of fans and the subsequent obligations he has to the fans. Well-played Heaps, well-played.

There is no better coach at taking responsibility for losses than Bronco. He takes responsibility for everything, almost to the point of it being laughable.

Agreed. Would have been refreshing to see Hall man up after the loss @ utah. He just laughed it off as nothing IIRC.

Remember that one game where Nelson passed for over 200 yards?

Funny. Me neither.

He can transfer for all I care. The guy is not a BYU QB, which makes him a bad distraction for stupid coaches. I'd rather see him stick around and play DB though.

Mars - any chance of U transferring? Nelson is an asset to the program and you are a whiny little liability who for some reason likes to throw out of context crap out there to defend your previous man crushes Like Heaps that prove premature. You r more accurate with your BSU love. They R very good. Transfer there.

BTW - can u name the game that Nelson got 4 QTRS in a row and didn't throw for 200 yards? That is right, the only time he wasn't alternating series was against AFA, which is a far better D than UNR and the game the OL provided zero protection.

BTW - Heaps has now had 7 uninterrupted quarters in which he has produced a total of 23 points and only 2 TDs even after getting most of the practice reps 1 week and all of them the next week.

Nelson is the reason we are not 0-4.

Who knows how he would have done if he got all the reps and the offensive support gel was there for him.

Have some respect and class MARs. The Heaps eta has begun and maybe he will have a breakout game Friday against a defense that SDSU just lit up for about 40 points.

No, I'm showing how anyone can be discredited with a dumb one-liner like you did with Nelson. Just admit that it was stupid and we'll move on.

The dumb quote was this one: " Thank goodness Heaps has come to save our ailing program... I'm just grateful that Saint Heaps is here to solve all our problems..."

It's like you were sitting there steaming about a positive thread about Jake Heaps, trying to craft the perfect insult to put those lousy BYU fans back in their place. What's your problem?

Just having a little fun with those who fell all over themselves about Heaps and insisted time and time again that Riley was the reason for all of our woes (not saying that he was the better choice necessarily, just that without him we still are struggling because we have a lot more problems than just the qb decision). So, I don't really have a problem, but our team has many that need addressing.

Kinda sounds like "Haha BYU fans, you're 1-3!" I guess I don't get what's fun about that.

Ummm...I don't think that all BYU fans were wetting themselves over Heaps.

And most BYU fans weren't wetting themselves over Austin Collie either. Your point being? He's not as good as some people thought he would be, and that makes you happy?

There was no controversy at WR when Collie was here, again an analogy of yours that just doesn't work.
