All I have to say is that it felt eerily similar to the Crowton/Dark Years.

OK, them are fighting words! First of all, you've uttered his-name-which-shall-not-be-uttered-forevermore-on-cougarcorner!

Second, the BIG difference between Crowtons dark years and this is:

1. There's hope

2. Crowton ruined developed upperclassman. Right now we are watching a very, very young team grow up.

That being said...I still think the playcalling and decision making sucked at times in this game. I guess they know something that I don't - but to me as a somewhat football savy fan, not calling TO when FReno was getting ready to punt and letting the clock bleed from over 2 minutes to under 1:30 reeks of quitting - and I cannot stand quitting on the fball field.

IMO the worst play calls/coaching decisions, in order:

1. NOT calling TO when you forced Nevada to punt with just over 2 minutes left (that TO was still sitting on the board when the clock expired). In my opinion this was inexcusable. The game wasn't over. BYU still had a chance. Just ask Jimmy Mac. Worst coaching decision of the night.

My brother was absolutely LIVID about this, and he's a calm dude.

It's almost like BYU doesn't want the ball in the 4th quarter.

And we got no pressure on Kapernick, just nothing the entire game. If Heaps had as much time to throw as Kapernick, he'd have thrown for 350 yards. So I was disappointed in both our Dline and our Oline--Nevada controlled the line of scrimmage. If Rich was not playing safety, Nevada probably would have scored 50 on us.

I don't know what game you were watching but Heaps had plenty of time to throw and he wasn't getting it done. The only reason he finished with 229 passing yards was because he got 70 of those yards on the last drive when Nevada was playing prevent D, the rest of the game he only had around 160 yards.

I saw plenty of mistakes both from coaching and from the players this game. The biggest on the coaching part has already been mentioned and that was calling that stupid fade route about 15 times too many, the offense had the biggest success when they went over the middle which was open a ton during the game. This leads into a big mistake with Heaps always staring down his first receiver, he hardly ever looked at his second and third options, and as I mentioned the middle of the field, especially the slot was open a ton, so if Heaps had checked off his primary receiver he would have had a better day, also if Nevada's D was any better they would have had a couple of picks because Heaps wasn't looking off his primary guy.

Finally, I absolutely have no idea what Ashworth's problem catching the ball is. He is really killing drives out there this year. Last year he seemed pretty sure handed but this year he would have a hard time catching an STD at a hooker convention in Vegas. I hope he pulls it together and soon.

As I've posted elsewhere, the FG didn't bother me all that much because we needed three scores. Although, I will point out that it didn't make a lot of sense since we gave up on the field goal earlier, which combined with this field goal, would have been worth one touchdown. Furthermore, since you didn't take the first field goal, and its a whole lot easier to get a field goal with 30 seconds less or so, it would have been better to run on 3rd and 4th and get the bloody first down. We should have been aiming at getting first downs in the red zone. But, I digress.

As I said, I can live with the decision to take the field goal since we were down by three scores. What I cannot live with is the decision not to onside kick it. Yes, we had been successful at keeping Nevada from scoring in the second half, but not in getting 3 and outs and time was our enemy. Our only chance was to onside kick it, get a score and then see how much time was left before deciding if we needed to onside kick it again. You can't rely on pick sixes because we never get those, and turnovers are largely up to the other team to make the mistakes. Onside kicks are under our control.

I'm still a Bronco believer but I don't think he believes in the comeback when you are down by a couple of touchdowns. I guess he would rather lose by 14 than lose by 21 and take a shot at winning.

Our boys played hard today. Very upset with the coaches for the following reasons:

-You give the ball to Kariya ON A SWEEP on 4th and 4---are you kidding me! Critical situation---put the ball in the hands of our playmakers!

.

I almost lost it on this one. I know there are a lot of anea haters who want him out. I have always thought that was stupid given that more often than not he has done a fine job. But after watching this I am much closer to being in that camp. That was just the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

I for one don't think kariya should be running the ball at all. If you want to put him in for pass protection on an obvious pass play then that is fine but just give the running plays to quezada. kariya is a below average running back to put it nicely. He shouldn't be running the ball.

I do not have an issue with a sweep on 4th and 4. Florida State ran them on 3r and long and converted, and so did AFA. teams expected a pass. The issue was personnel for that play. If you are trying to get it outside, you have to use your speed back. JJ or Q would have been the better guys for a sweep, not Kariya. I really think Anae is doing a poor job this year with the cast we have. he is not getting the best out of them by a long shot. Dude needs to game plan to out strengths, not to his wishes.

Q when he was in really performed. My opinion is that he take all of kariya's snaps. I got frustrated when q would gain like six, then have a catch for another 6 or so and then be taken out. It also looked like he was pass protecting and blocking very well last game. That kid is going to be a star and they won't be ale to keep him off the field much longer if he keeps doing what he is doing. i think its painfully obvious that he is far superior to kariya as a runningback.

I have no problem whatsoever with the play call - just with the player running the ball. Sure, he was the one in the game, but if the wrong player is in the game for that call, then call something else! Or kick the FG! That was one of the dumber coaching decisions. Not the dumbest, but dumber. Even had he made it, I'd still say it was a stupid play call given the personnel on the field.

When Heaps accuracy improves and he starts hitting wide open receivers Like Kariya who was wide open on 3rd and 4 we will all be able to quit whining that Kariya was still in there for the pre-called play package on 4th and 4.

I also still remember K running right over and through Oklahoma defenders when he got good blocking to get him one on one.

Kariya should be blocking, and blocking only. Or the 4th and 1 they used him up the middle. That's it. Anyone that says different isn't watching the games, and/or has personal allegiences to him.

Kariya had one step on the defender. He was 15 yards down field. Running full speed across the field 15 yards down field, even if the throw had been on the money what do you think the chances are that Kariya could have caught the ball? I'd say 20% at best. He has not demonstrated the ability to catch that kind of a pass. He is fine catching screens that are lobbed at him. So follow up question is why was Kariya in on 3rd and 4 running that kind of a route?
