Disagree. Again, Nelson was more effective than Heaps, and for all the same reasons you have listed in favor of Heaps in the past, it stands to reason that he would be improved with more snaps to develop that same timing with receivers and to let linemen learn his tendencies for blocking.

Are you saying that Heaps hasn't improved in a week? In just one week I can see the improvement from FSU to Nevada.

Statistically, yes he improved--my point was simply that it stands to reason that Nelson would have improved with a week of being THE guy in practice. Since the Washington game I've taken the position that either guy would be better than both of them.

Jake did a lot better on his own against FSU than Riley did on his own against Air Force.

You need to revisit those games apparently. People keep wanting to crucify Nelson for his second half performance, but look at what each of them did in the respective second halves of their games, and who they did it against:

AFA = #23 Pass defense, #22 Pass efficiency defense

Nelson @ AFA in the second half = 5/13, 41 yards, 38.5 pct, 0 TD, 0 INT, PER 64.95, Total Team Offense = 93 yards.

FSU = #63 Pass defense, #63 Pass efficiency defense (Note that you would EXPECT a better QB performance against this Defense)

Heaps @ FSU in the second half = 6/17, 43 yards, 35.2 pct, 0 TD, 0 INT, PER 56.54, Total Team Offense = 43 yards.

I'm sorry, but again I fail to see why Nelson's performance against a very good pass defense gets him railroaded by fans, but when Heaps puts in an even less impressive performance against a bad passing defense, he gets a pass because he needs more snaps, the coaches made bad calls etc, etc--the same excuses apply to Nelson, but he never gets the benefit. Fans are just waiting for him to fail and eager to kick dirt on him while he's down, but when Heaps lays an egg, we need to be "supportive." :skeptic:

Again, I think Heaps has the tools to be the guy, but he has a long way to go before we crown him the winner of anything--that's all I've said from day one--he needs to earn it like every other guy on the team. You guys bagged on Nelson because he only got to #2 on the depth chart because Gaskins stepped aside. Heaps is only #1 at this point because the injured guy he couldn't beat out finally got hurt bad enough to be taken out. Heaps hasn't earned anything at this point, and there is no reason at this point to think he won't be in the fight of his life next season for a starting job with healthy, fit, and matured competition in Nelson, Munns, and Lark. At this point it appears to be open season.

Heaps hasn't earned anything? That explains why he is redshirting this season, when all the cards were stacked against him...

I'm sorry, I spoke in hyperbole. Jake hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt--he hasn't earned immunity from criticism. He hasn't earned the mantle of franchise quarterback. He hasn't earned being placed on a pedestal above our other players---that is what I meant when I said he hasn't earned anything--he hasn't earned any special treatment. Again, I think he has potential to do those things, but he needs to earn them here and now.
