Passes over the middle? Have you watched BYU play this year at all? :bug:

Have you? Are not short crossing routes passes over the middle? Heaps throws behind his man everytime he throws that route.

You mean the 5 times all year he threw it, with 4 of those hitting guys in the hands and they dropped it? Yeah, sucks he can't deliver it right to them perfectly averytime, right? Course, sucks they all(WRs/TEs) have more drops individually this year than Pitta had the last 3 years combined......

Ok, since we are comparing all of BYU's freshman TE's to Dennis Pitta, how many dropped passes do you think this years reciever corps would have if Max Hall were throwing to them this year instead of the Freshman QB? It's all speculation though since we don't have Max Hall, and Dennis Pitta did not have to catch balls from Heaps but I submit that there would have been less drops this year if Max Hall were the QB at BYU.

I disagree. do you wonder why Max threw into triple coverage away form these guys?

Do you remember these guys dropping 5 passes per game that max Hall threw?

It's funny how one of the questions repeatedly asked in Fall camp by the Heapsists was "why do the receivers drop Jake's passes and no one else's?"

Fast-forward three months, and now they want to argue that the receivers would drop anyone's passes and it has nothing to do with Jake. Not to mention they want to recalculate his PER each week with all the receptions they deem drops, yet they conveniently omit dropped would-be-interceptions by defenders.

Pretty soon we'll have to start calling him Jake DuPont for his Teflon-like qualities....

does it matter? Can you offer more proof that the reason Max was throwing to Pitta more then other recievers is because they were dropping his passes? There is no game evidence of that. I remember our wide recievers, including Ashworth catching a lot of balls, and I don't remember a lot of drops.

Ask him. Why else would you throw constantly into double and triple coverage if you don't trust your other guys?

Of course you don't, because they didn't ever get the ball thrown their way. Really, besides Pitta, George, Unga, and Jacobsen - who else got the ball? Oh yeah, Tonga... who else?

Since I don't have Max Hall on my rolodex and I am pretty sure you don't either, I thought I would post last years recieving stats to show you who besides Pitta was catching Max Hall's passes. I'll bet the second leading reciever from last year will surprise you.

So, although exactly half of these receivers didn't return this season, the half that did return accounted for 55%+ of Hall's completions.....

How can that be? I thought that Hall was throwing to Pitta even though he was being triple teamed because he knew that the other guys were going to drop his passes even though they currently weren't dropping any.

Dink and dunk is fine, but why not try doing it over the middle some with a WR or TE, instead of to the RB every time? G owatch how Austin Collie is used by the Colts, then ask why we do not run anything remotely close to those patterns with our guys in the slot. And what really has happened to the pass to the RB in the flat this year? And when we have 3rd and 2 or less, why does Anae insist on running with JJ who does not convert those, instead of Kariya-who AWLAYS does. The problems with this offense, the play calling, the scheming are so numerous, it is a joke. Jake's stats are not great, but to put them all on him is just dumb, when you factor in drops, play calling, and lack of any game breaker on offense this year. Coach Anae is the problem here, without question.

Have you ever considered the fact that the reason they don't open it up down field is because they've already seen what happens?

They've played three same opponents: Air Force, Nevada and TCU.

Here's how the two stack up:

Thomas: 40-65-1-310; 0 TDs, 98.52 rating, 61.5%. 0-3 record scoring 27, 6, and 0 points (11ppg).

Heaps: 40-81-3-335; 0 TDs, 76.72 rating, 49.4%. 0-2 record (only 8 snaps vs AF). Scoring 13 and 3 points (8ppg [not counting AF]).

Those are good numbers and do a good job of making my point. Also Thomas was 10-14 for 233, 3 TDs, and 0 picks against UNLV. I've seen nothing that tells me Heaps is capable of that. Hope I'm wrong.

Plus, maybe they don't open it up downfield because he is still struggling with the short game. Kind of the milk before meat thing. If he can't hit the easy throws accurately, how can he be depended on to hit the long throws down field.

Facts- deal with reality Heaps Lovers. BTW, I love Heaps, but he should have been redshifted and he was and is not ready. Nelson was better at the time and would be still. But Heaps may be great later. But let him prove it rather than assuming it.

It is also nonsense to have a few of you keep whining that he did not get enough reps in camp to be even decent, let alone great.

This is going to sting a little, but look 40 miles north and a year back. I don't recall if Wynn graduated early and even got to participate in Spring ball, but think he may have. Even if he did, he was not chosen then. Heaps got as many or more snaps. In summer Heaps got at least as much informal opportunity to work out as Wynn. What did he do with that opportunity and why were there work ethic and entitlement rumblings. In Fall Wynn was not selected. Heaps got more snaps than Nelson. Heaps got half reps game 1 thru 3 and 4 starts before Wynn got a start. And Wynn was pretty decent from that point forward. That is what great freshman QBs do.

Plus BYU has had freshman QB's who got less reps then Heaps did in the spring and fall and did better. Need I mention Matt Berry?
