I expect to see 1 TD pass to BYU's offense and maybe another to UNLV's defense, and for Heaps PER to be around 100 again. Hopefully, BYU will win the game with the defense saving it for us again like we saw against Wyoming.

Is this serious?

Based on what we have seen from him so far...yes.

What YOU have seen from him.

I guess this is coming from the guy picking the cowboys to win every week, without Romo.

You really are siding with Anae and the receivers on this one?

Chad Lewis said it best. "Surround yourself with ..." what was it, half heartedness and non-effort? And an ignorance (and I use that word to it's fullest extent to describe Anae) beyond all reason? "And that's another McKay..... duck down!"

Do I know you? Do you know who I pick to win every week? Who says I have "sided" with anyone about anything in this offense? I haven't sided with anyone, i think that the whole system has broke this year, starting with the stupid idea to run 2 qb's this year instead of redshirt Heaps which is what should have happened. I have said it multiple times that I think Heaps has lost his confidence and that is why he is playing poorly. It happens more often then not when you start a guy straight out of high school before he is ready. Do I think that Heaps is playing as good as he is capable? Absolutely not but that doesn't change the fact that he is playing poorly. Yes, the recievers and Coaching are part of the problem but that still doesn't change the fact that Heaps is also missing on throws that any average QB would normally be making in his sleep.

K, I'm not going to start off my day wasting a lot of time arguing so this will be my last post to you.

well, you did.
- I expect to see Heaps throw, High, low, wide and behind his recievers all day. I expect to see recievers drop these throws and for everyone here to blame them and Robert Anae for the inept passing game.

- Once again it comes back to blaming everyone but the guy with the ball in his hands. I don't think that Robert Anae is at fault when Heaps over or under throws recievers. Heaps PER rating is bad because he misses on the easy throws. I can't even count how many times he has missed on full back throws, screen passes and over the middle throws that are within 10 yards. Yes Robert Anae's coaching has been predictable but it is hard to not be predictable when your guys can't even execute the simple plays.

This was just in the last few posts, I am sure there are others. I am done with this for now. I would like to see Lark get a shot to show you how wrong you are. And if Anae continues to call the plays for us, he may just get his shot. But when he looks as bad as Jake does, then what? Go back to Jake? If he isn't even more sufficiently broken for being more mishandled?

We see our first easy win, is what we see. We also see our first 30 pt scoring output this year. UNLV game will be a nice day. Our defense will come to win it, and the offense will finally start well and finish well. That's what I expect.

This is actually a dumb statement, you are implying the guys on the field no way influence or affect a play at all. Sure it can be dumb play calling but it is still the responsiblility of the guys on the field to execute the play. Who cares if they pass 3 straight plays, it still it the responsibility of the QB to recognize whether to throw the pass or not, it is still the responsibility of the RB to recognize the correct hole to go through, it still is the responsibility of the WR to run the correct route, how is this the play callers fault?

I am not an Anae fan, but still the players have to make decisions while on the field and when those decisions are bad it is the players fault.

Actually, I was pointing out poor play on Heaps part in those posts. I have not said that Heaps is 100% of the offenses problem which would be "siding" with Anae or the recievers. I am pretty sure that you will not find a post where I give all the blame to Heaps. My arguments with people about Heaps for nearly a month now is that Heaps is part of the problem, not the whole problem but part of it since most of the Heaps worshippers on this board blame everyone except heaps for his poor play.

So, throw or.... get sacked?

He got criticized last time for getting sacked near the end zone (on yet another brilliant playcall when we were throwing from our 5 yard line.)

Let me try to put it better. We shouldn't be putting a true freshman qb in a position where he needs to decide things of this nature. Anae still fails to understand that he doesn't have Max Hall in there audibling off plays that won't work. Jake should be managing the game - nothing more, nothing less.

See: Jets last year. Take Mark Sanchez a rookie in the league, and just an average NFL qb on his best day.

Try and have him do everything, and you get 20 INT's and a team struggling to stay over .500 . But have him manage the game - run the ball and do playaction - and let your defense keep you in the game, and they are one win away from the superbowl.

Dude, your credibility is shot. So, I just did a little perusing in the thread about Jake heaps compared to other freshman QB's and you accused Max hall of throwing into triple teams to Pitta instead of throwing to the other recievers because he knew they would drop the balls. I asked you to give me proof of this statement and the answer I got was "ask him" I then posted that the same recievers that caught 55% of the passes from Max Hall last year are back on this years team and you said nothing. Now you are posting that Anae "expected" Max Hall to audible out of his terrible calls and is expecting the freshman to now do the same thing. How do you know what is in Anae's head? Are you going to ask me to now "ask him"? Come on

Thanks Bro but in addition why wouldn't we expect a Freshman QB to understand that if a receiver is covered you probably shouldn't throw it to that receiver, and if he gets sacked, he gets sacked, but he should at this point in time understand he can throw the ball away to avoid both the INT and the sack. Not rocket science in my book.

BTW it is a big difference comparing the best defensive players in the NFL and the sucky defenses of Wyoming and SDSU.

My credibility is shot? Well, if you think I have no credibility I actually take that as a compliment. Much the same as Cougarbib posting that my threads are too long and make no sense, it just makes you look double clueless. I didn't think that you knew so little about football that I would actually need to explain things to you in this much detail, but here we go:

I will explain it to you in terms of basketball. You do know what a double team is, don't you? Do I need to explain that? ... Just checking. So how many open shots do you think that Mike Miller is going to get this year (I know he is injured for another month... bear with me) with LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh on the team?

Now take them off the roster, and you have a bunch of unproven rookies and old guys playing for the league minimum: Joel Anthony, Carlos Arroyo, Mario Chalmers, Udonis Haslem, Eddie House, Juwan Howard, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, James Jones, Jamaal Magloire, and Dexter Pittman.

How many open, uncontested shots is he going to get as the starting shooting guard on this roster?

When you are double-teaming several players, it isn't that hard for other ones to get open, is it? That Max didn't throw to them MORE actually proves my point more than yours. Did you really think that their success last year only having to walk a few steps and catch it wide open was going to translate to this year? When we don't have a WR worth double teaming in any regards.

As far as them not catching the ball, I would wager that the fact they have no separation, and there is a man right there to hit them, would have something to do with that. It certainly is the case for McKay "footsteps" Jacobsen? I'm not sure about the rest, but a wide-open jumpshot is a lot different than a hand in your face closely contested jumpshot.

When have we ever had a receiver that wasn't "covered" this year? Do you expect him to get sacked or throw it away every play? I mean, seriously. It's one or the other. He is trying to make plays, and he is being put in a bad position to succeed. There is a big difference between 3rd and 2, and 3rd and 10. I'm not sure if you are taking that into account.

And for you to say that the receivers are always covered is a bunch of crap. What does covered mean to you? Nobody within 10 yards? 5 yards? 2 yards? I constantly see receivers with a minimum of 2 yards on the defense and because of a bad throw, which makes the receiver adjust to the ball by slowing down or changing the route it allows the D to close the gap. If you think the receiver is always covered and gets no seperation, then that goes back to the decision of the person throwing the pass because I always see other receivers that are open on most plays.

yep, our receivers get a ton of separation. On every play. It's just too bad our qb can't see and can't throw to our all conference wr crew. We should just let Lark do it.

I'm done.

I think that by playing to our strengths with the Power I, we put Jake in a place to succeed as we have more 3rd and 5 or less as opposed to 3rd and 7 - 10+ yds. When we get in these situations, the DL can blitz, stunt, etc. and pin their ears back because they know he has to throw. When we our pushing their line back with our runs, and they bring up the DBs for run support help or stack the line, that's when we can throw over the top and air it out. Let's see if Anae, WR and Heaps have developed a game plan to address this opportunity.

So, I make a football comparison saying that BYU's recievers weren't dropping Max Hall's throws last year, you come back and say that was because he was not really throwing to them but was forcing balls into Pitta who was triple teamed all year, I prove that theory is complete horse manure, and then you come back with a basketball analogy that has nothing to do with my original statement? Come on, you are digging yourself deeper. Not all of the drops are the recievers fault but not all of them are Heaps fault either. The play calling has been bad but Heaps has also thrown some crap balls. BYU averaged over 30 pts per game over the last 5 years and now they are averaging around 16 points per game, the previous 5 years was not all credit to Anae, or to Hall and Beck but was a combination of both. Just like this years offensive anemia is not all on Anae but is a combination of poor play on the players part and partly bad play calling. Coming on here to try and explain BYU's offensive woes with a basketball analogy is ridiculous.

Ok Blue is Blue - since you called me out again - and I am not complaining but I could see how others you attacked above would be justified in doing so - this is why I made a comment a few weeks ago about your posts not flowing logically and took a 3 day or so suspension for doing so even though it was in response to you calling me out. Take this response as just an answer to the question you just raised so you understand what I meant so you don't have to go off on a rant about your first and second language and linguistic skills. The comment was not just about linguistic skills although that post did have some gibberish instructions to someone else at the end from which I was supposed to somehow understand that we were all meant to only post on that thread to sign up to your petition and that absolutely no dissenting views were allowed. Narrow - don't you think? Controlling – maybe? How is your petition going? Will Anae be gone next week?

But let's take some specifics. Can you focus on the specific questions you are asked and read the entire answers people give you? It might improve the dialogue.

Your basketball analogy is a great one. It fits this BYU team perfectly. And, most likely, overly emotional fans, logic failing them in that case too, blamed it all on bad coaching and bad play calling. That is the type of logical fallacy I alluded to. Good example - well written in your native tongue - illogical conclusion from it or in this case, incomplete conclusion. Here is a better conclusion from your analogy:

BYU is bad because so many stars fell from the heavens all at once. Period! It will take a long time to fix it. Get used to it and quit looking for simple solutions. There are not any.

Then you carefully explain how Anae needs to play call around Heaps limitations, with which we all totally agree – you would see that we agree if you read our posts with understanding instead of emotion - so why are we arguing - anyway I agree and Fried Butter clearly does, and Declo clearly does, Blue 42 seems to - but then you go off on the above posters who are saying just that same thing in a different way. We all agree - Heaps is playing poorly and we should run run run most of the time and mix in a little play action to keep defenses honest. The pick 6 was an attempt to mix in a little play action. What do you want Anae to do - alternate plays so you can call him predictable.

Did you see Utah run 7 times in a row with the very same guy on Air Force, then ask Wynn who only has about 4 more starts than Heaps, to complete one play action pass for 5 yards against a very good defense. Somehow Wynn remembered how to throw an accurate pass after (run, run, run, run, run, run, run). Heaps didn’t. Then Utah ran 5 more times (run, run, run, run, run) straight with their other running back and scored. Yes Wynn threw a pick in that game. One pick and it was not a pick 6. He also threw for a TD and had 150 yards in his worst game of the year. Heaps best game has been worse than Wynn's worst game. But Heaps is a freshman. So, we agree, we have to play in a way that protects Heaps. We are doing just that but several fans are not happy because they want to open the entire playbook and turn Heaps loose. Go argue with those guys. They actually disagree with you. I will take your side in that argument. Heaps is not ready to take the entire playbook. We (you, me, Declo, Blue 42, and Butter) all agree. Heaps is human. We all agree. It will take a lot of time for him to get to the Heisman Candidate point like it does almost everyone else - no matter who is coaching. And yes, our coaches have shortcomings and limitations that are part of the problem and our receivers do as well.

Every time someone brings up the interception pick 6 that most objective articles I have seen printed by a sportswriter - make that all that I have seen - call a horrible pass or a horrible decision - you go off on some vague rant about pass pass pass after running all half or receivers not getting separation, or receivers dropping passes, etc. In this specific case, as has been mostly typical for Heaps so far, the receiver was plenty open, not well defended at all, it was not a disguised defense where a defender was in an unexpected position, and Heaps grossly underthrew a ball that should have been erred on the long side not the short side if he can't throw it where it should be. Throw that ball too deep and it is just another incompletion (and if the receiver gets a few fingers on it - some of you can call it a drop). Throw it away if you hear footsteps - out of bounds would be fine as it was near the sideline, and you have an incompletion instead of a sack. But why you went off about a potential sack is part of the illogical and incoherent part, because he was under absolutely no pressure when he made that throw and had little pressure all game vs Wyoming and most of the game vs SDSU.

If you don't want to start your morning off by arguing all day - well you failed that already - quit arguing with people that actually agree with you and quit posting irrelevant generalized crap that they won’t agree with and explain why a QB that has had run run run all half, which isn't quite true, but go with it any way, forgets how to hit a wide open receiver when he is asked to throw a straight forward pass and not only misses the receiver but underthrows the receiver badly when it is clearly expected that said receiver will be covered underneath - when said receiver has SEPARATED NICELY and is well behind the defender. Next time, have Heaps, who according to rumor makes these throws routinely in practice and made them routinely in high school, throw it slightly ahead of the receiver, with a little arch on it to get over the defender, and watch the receiver either drop it for an incompletion or catch it in stride and take it to the house. That pass should have gone for 6 - but 6 for us not them.

And if Heaps wants to get the old, slow, veterans to see him as a leader – dive at the guys ankles instead of looking scared stiff and saying We made a bad play and hoping someone else tackles him. That is what leaders are made of. Don’t smash him head on and risk injury – just dive at his ankles.

Enjoy the rest of your day and no need to post a bunch of stuff that does not specifically answer the points raised by me and the others mentioned in this post - otherwise you will waste your morning arguing all day. PS it is morning in Hawaii in case you think I don't know it may not still be morning wherever you are.

Allright let's take the emotion out of this. This:

is all I or any "Heaps Apologists" are trying to say. The blame lies in a lot of different areas, what I am concerned about is how to address the sitaution.

Should we just bench our quarterback, or is it the playcallings fault? I contend that any quarterback could succeed in Jake's place with coaching, and talent around him being considered. That's all. Officially done now. And I think my bball analogy was pretty valid. You should read it again after you have had a drink of water and maybe some cookies.

For all of us who thought our strength was the run game supplemented by some passing, it appears Bronco is of the same mine set.

An observation from Jay Drew, "The coach hinted that the buttoned-down, conservative approach on offense is not going to change anytime soon."

Bronco stated, "Again, not giving up on having the offense we have had in the past, but getting a better idea of what we currently can do really well, and then looking at bits and pieces of what is realistic to add to it."

I have already given my conclusions on Heaps. I think his confidence is shot. I think he should start the UNLV game and if he is unable to put together a respectable game, not a spectacular one, just respectable (PER in the 120's) we should consider benching him and see what Lark can do. Heaps should have never seen the field this year. We should have put him on a redshirt and prepared Nelson as starter and Lark as backup. His gawdy abilities in the spring and fall fooled our coaches into believing that a freshman could actually get it done. They were wrong.

Interesting stats going into this game:

1. BYU’s starting offensive line has allowed the run game to average 4.6 yards a carry.

2. The Cougars have run the ball 292 times this season, with 270 pass attempts.

3. We average 16.0 pts/game and UNLV averages 16.9 pts/game (yet we are favored by 18 by LV oddmakers).

The running and passing while appearing balanced, it more disproportionate since we started gong to the Power I. Look for us to run but also pass when opportunity presents itself.

yep, our receivers get a ton of separation. On every play. It's just too bad our qb can't see and can't throw to our all conference wr crew. We should just let Lark do it.

I'm done.

If you think I am calling for Lark than you haven't read my posts. I think Heaps will be a good QB but this year he is anything but, and saying it isn't his fault he is throwing INT's isn't true.

and if you really are done

Here's what we will see: a close win. The run game will carry us, defense will play well enough, and Heaps and the receivers will be super inconsistent.
