Don't forget the no call on the goal tending either. But I thought it was a pretty well officiated game.

Home teams get the calls. And in critical or late half/game situations, they get even more calls. It is statistically proven. And just how it is. The home crowd gets benefit of the doubt. As they should. And it makes the road wins even more respected as a result. There were some bad calls in the game, but there are every game.

I'm just glad that BYU kept the game far enough out of reach that the no-calls for Jimmer didn't have a overturning effect.

Can't remember the last time Jimmer had four fouls. I got worried when Davies got his fourth as well.

I think it was funny that they bang Jimmer around all game with no calls then they call a touch foul on the other end to give him his 4th foul. MWC refs are never consistent.

You are very wrong about them never being consistent. They are consistently inconsistent. :P :skeptic:

How about consistently bad?

How about "consistently really, really bad." :P :P

How about -- Inconsistently consistent :skeptic:

As an engineer, I have learnt that the glass is neither half full nor half empty, the container is just too big.

Hey weren't you saying the refs did a good job last we talked?

They weren't perfect. These were some examples. I thought they did a good job. I also think that BYU did a good job of ignoring them. I didn't see a lot of jawing, complaining or whining to them. We just went about our business of winning. We came in focused on out playing the Aztecs. That's what we could control and that's what we did.

Just giving you a hard time. I too thought it was pretty well officiated. Not perfect, but what game is?

I loved that BYU just came and played tough basketball, no whining, no complaining. Just good basketball.

Yep. I was actually really glad to have the CSU game. It really focused the team. We had to really battle to win that game. It got us ready for the physicality of today's game. We were ready.

Huge props to Coach Rose for having his team ready to play in the biggest games of the year.

Now, let's just avoid the letdown on Wednesday. I think the fact that we lost to UNM and we can lock up the conference will keep us focused.

Agreed, Wednesday is huge. But I think BYU wins 15+. No way that UNM plays as well as they did last time we met them.

I can't believe we won that game with the officiating the way it was. I was an inch away from completely losing it.

One would hope not. It's possible that UNM sold their souls to get the win at the Pit. If that's the case than they won't have anything left to barter Satan with to get the win in Provo.

Kidding aside, BYU wins this next game running away. UNM will not beat BYU in Provo this year. The Marriott Center cleaning crew will be working overtime between Wednesday and Saturday to clean mashed Lobo off the court before the Cowboys come to town.

Agreed. Their win in The Pit was a fluke that would not be repeated, even if we had to play them there again. The Lobo's will be abused for our entertainment, and the natural order of things will be restored at Provo this week.

The officials tried to tell Rose to take Jimmer out, and he said "No, make me" so they gave him 4 fouls and played chicken with Rose, but Rose didn't blink and Jimmer Jimmered.

Wow. This could be the story of the game. Was this because they thought Jimmer's play was invoking illegal contact that they did not want to call against the Aztecs so he should be taken out for his own protection, or did they mean that Jimmer was verbalizing to them too much? Were they giving warning of an impending technical? That fourth foul they slapped Jimmer with was only a touch on the back. I did not think it was a push. They called blocking fouls on both Jimmer and Davies when I thought they had drawn a charge. They seemed to want to have us in foul trouble, but did not have the courage to call the fifth foul at BYU's home court.

Can someone explain what the commentators mean when they say, "That was a great no-call"? Does the rule book say that the contact must be at least a grade 4 hit to constitute a foul? What is meant by incidental contact? On one play referring to a good "no-call", the commentator mentioned that the SDSU player didn't mean to contact him and even tried to avoid the contact. UUHHMMM, Mr commentator.... I don't think Jimmer meant to hit the player on any of his offensive fouls. And Emery didn't mean to foul the SDSU player behind the three point line in the second half. In fact, Emery turned his body to try to miss contacting the shooter. Again, what grade level of hit determines a foul vs a great no call? What was the total free throws/fouls for each team? And did Jimmer get to the free throw line more or less than his average? Somehow, I think it was considerably less...

Perfect no call would have been when Rahon ran into Jimmer after he had passed the ball. Contact, sure, but it was incidental and Jimmer was set. Should have just left that one alone. I also think that if the offensive player is initiating as much contact as the defense is dishing out (as long as the defender isn't using his arms to keep a guy in front of him, or reach for the ball) that it should be a no-call. Another example of this was when Abouo got called for playing picture perfect defense by moving his feet and keeping his shoulders and hips squared up to Gay who was trying to get around him. But Abouo who had great position and was simply staying in front of the guy got a foul called on him.

Those are two cases where there should be NO foul called. You can't eliminate contact in basketball, and you can't call a foul everytime there is contact. Basically basketball is becoming a game focused on scoring, so the defense is really limited on what they can do, which adds to the frustration.

I agree. That call on Jimmer was terrible, and the call against Davies right after was ridiculous (he was set three steps before the SDSU player hit him). Also , the fourth call on Jimmer was about as ticky tacky as they come.

Jimmer didn't get to the line once in the first half. I guess nobody touched him at all! :skeptic:

You know what kills me? Reading multiple SDSU fan comments on multiple articles about how they may have won the game if the refs hadn't favored BYU so much... :sulk:
