I think BYU has no choice but to kick out of school under the following:
1) felony
2) DUI, even if pleaded down to misdemeanor
3) same sex activity
4) someone gets pregnant.
If a girl got pregnant, then the punishment fits the act. As members of the church, we are taught about the creative power and its sacredness. And BYU is not a place for that to happen out of wedlock.
I still take issue with aspects of process, however. I see value in the HC, but my protestations are always with the processes and applications, at times.
So you won't get kicked out of school for having sex as long as you have hetero sex, use protection, or variations of sexual conduct such as, levi love, floating, camel toe junction, oral? Pregnancy as a guideline for getting kicked out is silly. The act that causes the pregnancy is the sin not the pregnancy itself. Pregnancy is not a punishment either...There are some of us where getting pregnant was a real struggle and is a blessing not a punishment. Don't send the wrong idea out about it.
The reason for getting kicked out is determined on a case by case basis. Nothing more nothing less. Whatever is best for the individual, not what is best for the fans, the family, the girlfriend, the victim...
I do not know if it is accurate, but I heard that a young man cannot serve a mission if he has gotten a girl pregnant. IN other words, that might be a line-in-the-sand positoin not to be crossed even though I agree with you that the sin is the sexual activity and the pregnancy or other tings like an STD are consequences of that choice that was made.
I really like Brandon Davies. In fact, unlike last year, I really like every player on this team. I would be sorry for any of them to have made this mistake. The consequences are unfortunate. My earlier post just indicated that the consequence of public specualtion, will mean far less n the long term than the consequences of losing th end of this season, possibly next season, whatever comes of an un-planned pregnancy, etc., as those things will be tough and tough decisions will need to be made - some immediatley.
You never hear about Harvey Unga any more - until now. It blows over. I never even heard if he got married - or not - or whether the baby has been born or even if it was a future stud RB or a future women's basketball star. The less famous mothers are so often forgotten in these debates. Maybe that is fortunate - maybe not. They too matter.
May God bless all involved and through his Holy Spirit and their prayerfulness guide them to the right decisions.
And may the team focus on the game tonight. It is a really important one even in light of all of this turmoil and tragedy.
