Nice switch of title Blue is Better....i can agree with it...But sheesh Rose finds out just last week, is in the middle of playoffs and we expect immediate answers? Let's give the man some time to plot out the future. Has he let us down yet??? NO!

Agreed. Its to bad Coach Rose didnt get some NCOY consideration. He'll figure something out, hopefully. Maybe thats it. Hartsock, CC, Charles, ROgers and Winder/mart/CArlino.

Run and Gun, baby!

First you want to get rid of Winder who has never even got to play yet? Yeah thats genius man..

Do you really think Rose is just sitting on his thumb and hasnt been looking for a big? Cause there are so many out there that cant wait to come to BYU? If you are going to say things that make you look an idiot then be prepared to handle the criticism.

I said Martineu OR Winder. With Carlino coming, and starting from day one of his eligibility we don't need all 3 of these guys "running point."

What we DO need is inside presence in the very likely chance that our bigs - aren't healthy, are in foul trouble, or just plain aren't in shape.

I never said Rose wasn't out there looking for a replacement. So I ask you again, who is going to be our starting center next year, and his backup? Winder? He seems to be the player you care about, to bring you out of lurk status.

And we are a top 10 team... It's not like someone is going to avoid coming here if he can start from day one (and thinks he can not have sex for a year or two. SEE: Matt Carlino)

pretty strong comment.

who is going to play center next year then? (since you're so smart...)

who is going to back him up?

He doesn't get paid to make those decisions, so why should he waste his time answering your questions???

Cmon Sno, you normally post smarter than this.

You mean to tell me that looking at every JC in the country and looking at a 12 man roster are the same thing?

And by the way, we DO have a schollie available if Davies doesn't play next year. His own. (Then we give him one when he is eligible off of one of the Seniors graduating. If he even stays at BYU... If he even gets suspended in the first place... )

And if he isn't, then this whole thing is moot. Because Davies is a baller and I'd love to have him on the team.

And I understand the whole "not revoking" a guys schollie, but Zylstra and Anderson aren't top 20 team type players. So if there is an immediate upgrade available (and it is a hard sell to tell me there isn't) then don't you take it to stay current.

Look no further than our fb recruiting class this year vs last year to illustrate the point. Yes we got some studs, yes they are under-represented in the star categories. But who knows if we won this year like the last if a couple 4 and 5 star guys wouldn't have looked our way?

We are going to drop off the face of the earth in the WCC as it is. Dropping a couple games to average teams would be seriously detrimental.

I trust Rose is looking for possible solutions, I hope that he'll do whatever he can to keep BYU current.

Let me try to help.

2011/12 was already primed to be a rebuilding year before Davies got in trouble. If he, by some miracle, is back next year, we will still not be a Top 10 team again. This year was a 1 in 30 years team and will be viewed as such nationally. We will not be a top 25 team next year, even with Davies. Our coaches will look suddenly dumb next year. Think 2010 football. Not quite as bad but it will be tough.

JC players with talent are not still sitting around looking for a DI school. They already committed to one. Bigs are always scarce even if it wasn't past signing day.

But then let's remember - some of the naysayers on here thought Hartsock, C Collinsworth, etc., etc., sucked at the start of this season including Davies. But then some people stepped up and surprised. Maybe some people will step up next year. I hope so, becasue finding more players who can transfer here by next season is the "needle in a haystack" problem.

Jimmer is gone next year. So is Jackson. That is huge. But they are here now. There is a game tomorrow. There is a conference tournament to win and a Big Dance to try to make a run. Do you really think Rose is spending a lot of time looking for needles in the haystacks. I hope he is figuring out how to win without bigs while he still has Fredette and Emery. Then we worry about next year and it will be a huge challenge.

Com'on now, you know Winder can jump higher than Anderson.........I believe Winder is more of a 2-guard anyways but he and Carlino could make a great combination at the 1. I do hope Rose is out there finding us another 4/5 though but they just seem few and far between. Maybe someone could enlighten us on some possible options??

A season or two ago wasn't there a need for another scholarship and a player who we all hoped Rose would revoke their scholarship announced weeks after the season that he decided to give up his scholarship? Guys, we don't know what's said to players behind closed doors. Rose was reluctant to give his son-in-law a scholarship, so I see no reason why Rose wouldn't have a heart to heart conversation with a less than productive player, especially if someone better is waiting on the wings. That's part of being a coach of a nationally ranked D1 school.

If a JC player pops up or an international player (what happened to our Brazilian connection?) that's better than the weapons Rose already has I hope he snatches them up even if that means having to revoke someone's scholarship.

Rose should find the best players he can and put the best players on the court. The bigger question is what's out there that's better than what we have.

What about borrowing a Football player for a year?? Maybe Rose could talk Isaac Neilson into postponing his mission a year??

Obviously you missed the irony of you asking someone to do the same thing I was asking you to do. Sno was simply using your previous response to basically the same question as a reason why they didn't need to answer your request.

didn't miss the "irony". I didn't see much irony there to be honest. Scouting the nation for JC players is different - to me - than projecting a specific position on a 12 man roster from one year to the next. Again, I didn't ask him to do the same thing.

You told me to find someone from a JC better, and I just asked him who our center would be next year? Clearly that was too much for him, though as he hasn't responded yet.

I didn't see the humor in it, it was a pretty weak attempt. Sno has done much better in the past, so I guess the bar is pretty high.

To be fair, that's completely true.

Keep back tracking Blue, it doesn't change the fact that you made yourself look like an idiot with this post.

Of course you can always use a good big man, it's been what 2 weeks? Give Rose a break

I never back tracked from anything. It also doesn't change the fact that you can't answer a simple question, and went from "lurk" status to "troll" status at the drop of the name "Winder" (whom I never officially attacked. I just pointed out that we probably don't need 2 back up point guards next year PLUS Carlino, who will be starting as soon as he is officialy eligible. People think that Winder can play the 2, and that is great for him if he can. We already have Abuou at the 2, and Harrison coming in, who should see a lot of time too. We have Rogers at the 3, and Abuou when he moves down. We have many people UNDER 6'7 on the team. What we don't have, is people OVER 6'7. And I would point out that of the people over 6'7, one is coming off season ending surgery, one is barely 6'8 and foul prone, and one is a senior that LITERALLY averages more fouls than rebounds... And one guy is 6'8, barely over 200 pounds, and perfect for the 3 position. So... Yeah. Something has got to give. IF you don't understand that, it's on you, not me.)

(And I never said anything against Rose... I just overstated my opinion that BYU needs to get some bigs this offseason if we don't have Davies. It was an "early morning" post, and a little erractic. That's why I changed the title.)
S
SpiffCoug
You called Rose crazy. But I guess that doesn't count as saying something against Rose. You changed the title when you realized how dumb your attack on Rose was and got called on it.

Let's give it a bit before we hit the panic button. Rose has already shown that he can make do with a 6'8" center with just a week of prep time. Let's see what he can do with an entire off-season.

Are the JC big guys out there willing to come to BYU? Probably not. Given the number of big guys on the roster next year (Collinsworth, Harward, Anderson and Austin) I can't see us going to add another big. Plus we don't even know if Davies will be gone for the entire year yet or not.

Again. If/then statements... why don't people understand if/then?

Dave Rose is flat out crazy IF (meaning the subject is NOT CURRENTLY, but could be considered that status depending on whether or not the following half of the statement provides true or not)

I never insulted Rose, I just stated my feelings on the subject too strong and too hurriedly, and realized my mistake and corrected. The overreaction was shared by all.

It's basic english... :skeptic: just like your "irony."

CBS C announcer pointed out that NM and UNLV will be ranked next year because they do not lose many players and then pointed out SDSU will lose a bunch and BYU will lose 3 starters and then rattled off names - Jimmer, Jackson, and Kyle. Make that a possible 4. He didn't count Davies who is no longer a starter and who may or may not be gone next season.

Rose will have a ton of things to worry about next season.

And a few to worry about today unless The Jimmer pops in 53.

Oh - and then Big Dance to worry about. Enjoy this ride until the very last stop. Next year is going to be a lot different.

So, let me get this straight; The winningest coach in BYU history isn't crazy yet, but will be so by next year if he doesn't do things your way. Ok, I get it.

It's not "my" way. It is the way that anyone that wants to go more than one deep in a tourney without Jimmer Fredette should do it. You'll see, though, if we don't get more help inside. As Sno mentioned, being in the WCC will help, but we will also be buried there, unless we can win out - which may be unlikely as our big situation might entail.
