Rewatching the safety rotations from Saturday

Spent some time this morning running back the tape on how we used our boundary safety against the run. When we stay in that split safety look, our run fits are so much cleaner because the second level guys don't have to guess their gap assignments. Too many missed tackles happened when our linebackers got caught peeking at the backfield instead of shooting their designated gaps. If we clean up those angles in space this week, Tempe is gonna look a lot different. Anyone else noticing those run fit issues on the coaches film?

Good catch on the split safety look. When we run that specific coverage, our EPA allowed per rush drops significantly because the box isn't getting outnumbered. The linebackers definitely struggled with gap integrity early on though. PFF had us missing way too many tackles at the second level when guys tried to jump gaps instead of reading their keys. Gotta get that fixed before conference play gets rolling.

Appreciate you actually breaking down the tape instead of just yelling at the TV like I did. Though honestly, watching our linebackers peek into the backfield gave me a mild panic attack. Seems like we always make things harder on ourselves by taking a quarter and a half to settle into our gap assignments. Just once I want a stress free Saturday where we don't need safeties bailing out the front seven in the fourth quarter.
