Could we break the recruiting thread down by year in lieu of having one big recruiting thread.

I was confused why he hadn't heard more from this kid. I thought he was a 2011 player, looks like instead he's class of 2012:

WR/RB/DB/QB NR Thomas Johnson (0)

(Skyline HS) Dallas, TX

Receiving interest from: Texas

http://byu.scout.com/a.z?s=338&p=8&c=1&nid=4956575

"When Ross Apo, Teu Kautai and Tayo Fabuluje played at Oakridge High School in Texas and went through the process of becoming BYU Cougars, a fellow teammate and close friend in Thomas Johnson became interested in BYU. A year later, Johnson still keeps in touch with his friends and still holds BYU as one of his top college choices."

This is the WR I was raving about after going to a Skyline game to watch Apo, Tayo, and Kautai. He was simply the best player on the field that day, on both offense and defense, and he's two years younger than our three steals. My only question was "Can he live the Honor Code? If so, give that young man a scholarship!" Now I'm no professional talent scout, not by a long shot, but it looks like Texas is already following him at his new school.

GO GET HIM COUGARS!

What can anyone tell me about Jake Adams of Park City. He is a senior this year and his dad says he is big and fast and very talented.I am friends with his dad but know nothing about him except his father tells me Utah State, Arizona and U of Colorado are recruiting him among others. Is BYU looking at him also? He is not LDS.

"The grand nephew of former BYU football coach LaVell Edwards, a kicker on the Hurricane High football team, has committed to play for BYU. However, Corey Edwards will go on an LDS Church mission before enrolling at BYU. Corey Edwards, who will be a senior this fall, was a first-team all-state kicker as a junior in both Salt Lake City daily newspapers. He was also drawing interest from Utah, Utah State, Stanford, Arizona, Missouri, Hawaii, Colorado and Cincinnati, according to a news release sent out by his family Wednesday evening. In 2009, Edwards made 57 of 59 PAT attempts and five field goals. Eighty-three percent of his 27 kickoffs went into the end zone."

So my aunt Karen is married to Kevin Edwards, Lavells actual nephew. So does that make me a "grand nephew?"

So with this year being an anomaly for recruiting due to our lack of available scholarships, how do you think that we will evaluate this class?

Right now, I see us waiting on 3 people to determine when we are done with this class: Langi, Mathews, and Sampson. If we don't get these guys, we may go after others to possibly replace them. Get them, and I think we are done for this year.

Anyone I'm leaving off the short list?

This year the focus is on the lines. And the fact is, as the lines go, so goes the team. So far, I'd call it a very solid, but unspectacular class. If BYU can land Sampson, Mathews and Langi, I'd call it an outstanding class. Get 2 of the 3, call it a deep and talented class. Personally, I hope we get Sampson and Matthews most of all. I like Langi, but with Adam Hine coming home off a mission for 2011, see him as a lower need.

Not sure if you question was in earnes or not, but I think a grand-nephew would only apply to a grandchild of your sibling. Or in reverse, your grand-uncle would be the brother of your grandparent. But again- I could be wrong.

actually I was being quite serious, I've never been able to accurately describe my relationship to Lavell, except to say, "my aunt is married to his nephew" Maybe that's as good as it gets.

BTW - I'm glad to see they found Sorensons replacement this early on; BYUs kicking game should be nice for sometime.

For a kicker to get scholarship offers before his senior season means that he's legit.
