Seems like if he was going to go to BYU he would just announce it without all the fanfare. Makes me think he's going to go elsewhere. Hope I'm wrong.

This is how it seems to me - except when 3 announce at once at Iggy's.

But yeah - when it is made into a big deal - at the high school gym - outside of the state of Utah - Duke wows more of your classmates than BYU. Ditto UVA. Maybe Florida. There are a lot of LDS in Arizona. Maybe this is different outcome this time, but Woodbridge High was packed with BYU fans when CB picked Duke.

With the kids, it is more about impressing classmates than outsiders that drive over for the show.

But then you have Hans Olsen. He chose BYU over Nebraska - then never quite played up to the hype.

Anyone remember how any other high school gym pressers turned out.

Chris Burgess - Duke over BYU

Hans Olsen - BYU over Nebraska

Jabari Parker - Duke over BYU

Other??????????????

Edited to add Jabari Parker to the presser list.

I think BYU needs to get out of the WCC to help land these kids

How does OSU make any sense for a guy that's planning to serve a mission 1st? I'd say there's a 50% chance he never plays for OSU. It's not RM friendly.

Or a 50% chance he never serves a mission

Never have thought the WCC does anything for us. When you start the season not getting a single vote for top 25, are not favored to win a lower tier conference, and you're depending on the PAC12 not doing well to get more than 1 conference invite to the big dance you will have a ceiling on recruiting elite talent. It is what it is though, what different conference affiliation would change any of that. I guess it's amazing we are in the discussion and that's probably based on all the Y has to offer and Rose as a coach but until we either rise to being a regular in at least the sweet 16 or be a regular in the top 25 it will always be hard to attract elite talent.

Go Cougs!

Then he can hold a press conference to announce what parasite he got

Eh...kind of glad we didn't get him. The last athlete that held a press conference didn't turn out so well. Still a chance he goes on a mission and comes back wanting to be in s more RM friendly environment.

I'd say a 50% chance he does a "Taysom Hill." A 2 year experience serving the Lord gives young men the chance to evolve and change their perspective. It would not surprise me to see Payton end up playing in the Marriott Center. Still, tonight was disappointing.

Go Cougs ~

Hey Chris, Have fun being a bench sitter behind one and Doners. Youre good, but not that good. I don't wish you ill will, but see you in Utah in three-four years.

I hope to you didn't sell your soul and miss your mission. Because you will be forgotten in two years, they will have moved on.

Exactly.

This is when it pays to have a second team you're tight with. While I would prefer Payton was a Cougar, there wasn't that total wasteland feeling when he picked my Buckeyes. It's one of those rare "win/win" scenarios. With the BTN I'll get to watch him play. I don't know that we've ever had a LDS BB player. Not sure on that, but none comes to mind.

Let's see. He said FL had the best coaches and that BYU was the best fit. So he picked Ohio State. Makes total sense. They have the best tattoo shops.
