2009 BSU?

I picked BSU to win on TCU's mistakes.

So far you're right on.

Congrats to BSU, there's no doubt that they were the better team today. (time to bring them in to the MWC?)

Props to the BSU defense. Unexpectedly good.

I'm don't always get my predictions wrong, but when I do, I do it by Dos Touchdowns.

I actually see this being a close game. As the boards biggest BSU fan this game has me more worried than if BSU had played anyone else. TCU is very good and very well coached.

Based on TCU's resume and how their bowl teams are winning, they look better by the day and it will be a tough game for BSU to compete with them.

On the other hand, the transitive property of college football doesn't seem to hold any water this year. Team A beats team B, Team B beats Team C, so naturally, Team A should beat Team C. The bowl season has proved otherwise...

I also know that BSU has only been blown out once this decade (Georgia 05'). I highly doubt they will get blown out by TCU, though if any team is capable, it would be the Horned Frogs.

Here is to a good game and good representation from the non-AQ teams. Its just too bad this bowl is such a let down as TCU and BSU both deserved a shot at a name school.

This will be the best team BSU has ever played. They don't have much of a defense. It's going to be ugly.

Hmmmmmmmm.............BSU's defense sure sucks. Nice analysis. It was ugly, and that may have been the best team BSU has ever played, but BSU is better than anyone they play.

So, if I get this right, you want to analogize someone making predictions based upon watching two teams play a combined 24 games with someone who was making predictions after watching two teams play a combined zero games??? Do I need to elaborate on why that comparison fails?

If BSU has the talent to compete with anyone anywhere, then why can they not compete with TCU?

Um, yeah. BSU has the talent to compete with "anyone anywhere." Their SOS ranking of 98 out of 120 just screams "we play anyone anywhere....especially suckers." Yet, even with that lame-o schedule they still have a smaller margin of victory than TCU, who boasts victories over two currently ranked teams and one other team getting votes by an average of about 21 points (two on the road). BSU, on the other hand, has played only one such team, at home, and only won by 11.

Another great prediction. BSU just doesnt play anyone. They must be horrible. Same argument against BYU in the 80's and 90's. Argument didnt hold water then and doesnt now with BSU.

AFA and Clemson are both potential throw up all over themselves games.

Meh. Yes, TCU had 11 penalties against Clemson and was -3 on turnovers vs. AF, but I wouldn't call those throw up all over themselves games. Those were merely clumsy bad weather games.

TCU got better as the season progressed. They are the best team in the country right now. You are correct that mistakes will be the reason that TCU loses. Except that Patterson will have this team ready and they don't make mistakes. With BSU's injuries and TCU's incredible speed and talent, BSU will be destroyed.

TCU was actually destroyed by BSU's speed.

It will be over at half. BSU has 1 bowl win in their last 5. Sorry, but TCU whips them like a rented mule. TCU defense will dominate this game. And BSU has no defense.

TCU 45

BSU 19

Yep. No defense at all. 36 yards rushing for TCU. Must have been a fluke.

Maybe TCU hasnt played a complete team all year. Maybe that is why they blew everyone out...???

Nice to see you wait until after the game is played to counter. Prior to the game being played, I stand by that statement. Until the game was played, BSU hadn't done anything to make me think they could stand with TCU. If you aren't going to respond to a predictive argument when it is predictive, don't be an ass an come back after the fact with an "I told you so," when you didn't bother to try and refute it beforehand.

All last night proved to me is that TCU is capable of shooting themselves in the foot and that BSU still can't win a big game heads up but has to resort to trick-plays and bush-league tactics like mimicking the snap count. I stand with ESPN's headline on this game: "Tricks gave Boise St. the Fiesta Bowl win but no respect in the ho-hum affair."

Completely disagree.

The trick plays overshadow the real story which is how physical BSU was at the point of attack. TCU had ZERO sacks. TCU conceded that BSU was the tougher and more physical team by the fact that they closed the game running EIGHTEEN STRAIGHT PASSING PLAYS to finish the game. Their last called running play was with 1:11 left in the 3rd quarter.

Nothing Bush league about being tougher. They were tougher than Oklahoma holding AP to his lowest rushing total of that year. They were tougher than Oregon earlier this year completely crushing their offense. They were obviously tougher than TCU. BSU is a legit program.

Yeah, they totally conceded that BSU was tougher by passing when down by a touchdown in the 4th quarter. You call it tough, I call it clock management.

What I referred to as bush-league was BSU's defensive tackle mimicking the snap count in the first quarter that led to all the false-start penalties on TCU's right side. Nothing tough about that.

The last 8 passes were clock management. The previous 10? Hardly. They weren't down by a TD until halfway through the 4th quarter. You don't need clock management in a tied game. Even after they were down by a TD they had first and 10 at the BSU 30 with over 5 minutes left. Do you need clock management there? Nope. Just 4 more passing plays giving BSU a chance to close out the game.

You absolutely manage the clock in a close game, especially when the opposing offense hasn't done anything all game. Until BSU scored their offensive touchdown, TCU thought they had the game in the bag as long as they could get one more point on the board. Their defense had shut down BSU for the entire half to that point, and the offense just needed to move down the field into field goal range.

TCU's backs averaged 4.18 ypc last night. BSU's backs averaged 3.38 before they started running out the clock (which dropped them to 2.52 ypc). Which offense was getting out-toughed in the run? Was BSU just too dumb to realize that TCU's run D was too tough? TCU giving up the run had nothing to do with production.

When your defense is shutting a team down and you are having success in the air, you put the ball in the air and try to keep the game from going to overtime where the opposing team's ineffectual offense gets the ball at the 35 yard line.

Is "taking what the defense gives you" admitting that the other team is tougher, or is it smart football?

I tried to refute all these arguments beforehand and was treated like an ass. I have every right to come on here and treat those that were dicks like such. I wasnt a baby about it before, I made good points, and agreed that TCU had a better resume, etc., etc. You are being a baby about it and cant handle what you routinely dish out.

You are already making excuses and discounting BSU. You sound exactly like Zachsooners now, only you have a different name.

Apparently some of you guys and ESPN saw a game different than I...BSU won the battle at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. They were the tougher more dominant team at the point of attack. TCU was supposed to own time of possession and it went mightily to BSU...that is crazy! BSU is not a time of possession type of team....

Westidaho...you never responded to my post before the game. When people started throwing facts your way, you were a baby---you disappeared from the board until after the game was actually played. Don't try and play the "I told you so" game after the fact. You missed your opportunity to respond before the game. Don't be a choad after the game and claim to have tried to refute a point you never addressed.

Let me tell you what I saw last night--I saw BSU play out of their minds defensively, and I saw TCU's offense put on their worst showing of the season. The two combined for a one-score win for BSU. Did BSU play the better game last night? Yes. Is BSU a better team than TCU. I don't think so. Do you think FSU is a better team than BYU after what happened in September? I apologize for not fawning all over BSU and throwing a season's worth of results out the window after one game.

I disagree with this. I think the battle at the line of scrimmage was a stalemate, which was still a victory for BSU. TCU was expected to dominate at he point of attack on both sides.

TCU limited the BSU offense to 10 pts, same as the BSU defense limited TCU to. Total offense was about equal in the game. BSU barely got over 300 yards, which includes the 29 yard pass on the fake punt, same with TCU.

Fact is, this game was so very close that it turned on a few key plays. Key play 1 was the pick 6. Key play 2 was the fake punt for a 1st down. Key play 3 was the TD pass dropped by the TCU receiver that would have tied it at 17. If those 3 plays goes TCU's way instead of BSu's way, that talk is of how TCU shut down the BSU offense, which they did, and how physical they looked on defense, which they did.

All credit to BSU for showing up and getting it done on the defensive side of the ball. Their offense underwhelmed me, although that QB played a solid, if unspectacular, game. Goes to show what speed at the WR position can do for a QB.

And TCU wins at least 17-3.

Stalemate at the line of scrimmage? BSU owned the clock, rushed for twice as many yards as TCU and got two sacks to TCU's zero...How can you call that a draw?
