Yes, a coach could leave BYU and go elsewhere. Here's what he gives up,

1. The best univ. in the world, the cleanest, smoke free, alcohol free.

2. Players with character, who get married instead of sleeping around every night

3. Far, far less profanity

4. Far, far less body trash (art?)

5. No Sunday games or practices

6. You can attend church on Sunday

Just my short list of positives for staying at BYU

A lot of Utah coaches have gotten big pay raises by leaving the U; included some guy named Urban Meyer.

With the talent coming in to the Y, I wouldn't want to leave this program right now. Why risk going to a floundering program because your name is out there, then wait 4 years when BYU is a top 5 program and people are talking about you for huge jobs... there is some benefit to job security.

Is there such a thing as job security in college football? If I were a coach I'd be tempted to get as big a salary as possible and fill my plate with it because you never know when the gravy train is going to stop. One year at a BCS school equates to 3 years salary at BYU. Invested the right way and you could get a lot of life out of the salary.

I see your point, though, and I think that's why BYU may not have the same type of turnover other programs may have. 150k a year is a very good living in Provo, especially if, like you say, there's potential down the road to be a top 5 program.

(dont' forget a squeaky clean record with the NCAA, and guys aren't being charged with felony robbery ala Florida/Tennessee)

Squeaky clean record with the NCAA, yes. Felony charges...hmmm...don't forget that whole BYU football rape incident...

Our players have their moments too, unfortunately. Or did at least.

Just throwing this out there because this just popped in my mind when I was reading this thread and it kind of shocked me, (because my mind really isn't that deep!) What if Anae is just buying into Bronco's whole philosophy of out executing the other team and if BYU does it better they will win? How many times have we heard that from the man himself? So are we really looking at the right person?

I understand Anae is the OC and it is his responsibility to come up with the game plan and script what they want to do, but I also think Bronco has to sign off on what is going on. I think the same goes for Hill, he is the DC and has done a GREAT job, but his defense is based on execution which is exactly what Bronco did.

So is it Anae not being able to make adjustments or is he just showing unity with his head coach?

Let me just clarify that in my criticism of Anae, I do not agree that we should be calling for his departure.

Bingo!!!!!

Robert Anae is flawed. So is nearly everyone.

Bingo!!!!!

I like Anae, I think he is learning and growing, and I think he is much better than any viable option on the table right now.

Bingo!!!!!

Sounds like Tuberville got the TTeh HC job, so I do not see Anae leaving now. O know Bronco mentioned 1 coach will leave, and as many as 3. I bet none do. I just hope that the 1 he was referring to was not Coach Hill.

ALL I know is that many people wanted to run off Norm chow as well, and now many regret that. I think would be the same with Robert. HE can improve, but he is good at his job.

This is a little off the subject, but IMO, the best thing that ever happened to Chow was leaving BYU. He then went back to what made him a great OC at the Y: he bacame innovative and unpredictable again. He had lost that during his later years at the Y. Everybody knew what he was going to do all the time. Now he is like he was at first.

Confirmed - Tommy Tuberville has been hired as the new HC @ Texas Tech. According to the reports I read - Anae was not a finalist - if considered at all. I'm glad that rumor / speculation is over. I would urge caution in wishing for the "great unknown."

I love Anae. He's done great things and is slowly but surely getting better each year, but over the next few years pretty damn good won't be good enough.

The Cougs better acquire the ability to make 2nd half adjustments or we're going to waste a lot of great talent.

My only criticism of Anae has been his reluctance to go back to Harvey in games where he's dominating like Utah last year and Utah this year, and complete inability to solve TCU; however he has consistently been good and that's something we couldn't say for the Crowton years.

The switch from the field to the booth has been a productive move.

Agreed. Well said.

There is a lot to be said for consecutive 10 win seasons. There is also the fact that we have the deepest coug squad in the last 20 years, and the talent coming in the last year and next year's class$

All that being said, We got throttled the last 2 years by TCU, and I don't see us narrowing the gap at the current rate for the next 5 years at

least. We can't expect to compete at a national level if we can't get past TCU. Anae is getting it done, just not well enough. Anyone can see that TCU and the Pukes' coaching staff is better than ours.

Well I think Utah has suffered heavy losses with their Assistant coaches. They are in danger of slipping in recruiting and standing in the conference.

I strongly disagree, one good year every four means that you have good players who have matured over several years at the school, culminating in a great year after several mediocre ones. Consistency indicates a good system and good coaches who can use a great many different players to still achieve very good results. Don't confuse your desire for BYU to have a BCS bowl win for an indicator of how good our coaches are.

What are you talking about? Anae ran the ball almost exclusively in the 4th quarter of this years Utah game. This just shows how dumb the criticisms of Anae really are. Half the people criticized his play calling this year because he didn't pass enough and half criticize it because he didn't run enough. If you don't even know what happened in the game, how can you claim that you know he called bad plays?

The author of this post was probably also among those who thought that Norm Chow was to blame for the Cougar's slide towards the end of the 90's, and helped run him out of town.

While I don't always agree with Anae's play calling, I for one think that he's done a good job as OC, and you can't argue with the results.

I think he was talking about not running the ball from the "I" formation, you know, the formation that worked all game long, and then we abandoned it in the 4th quarter and started running the ball from the shotgun, when we all knew that the Cougs weren't going to be passing the ball. :sulk:

PS We did win
