that sucks that he injured his non-throwing shoulder... Any word on how his right shoulder is?

just joking.

too bad this stupid system had to end in injury... I wouldn't mind seeing him on defense next season.

And the comedy king of cougarcorner snarles as another buffalo approaches his territory...

Honestly, I was pretty excited to have Riley run a Wildcat style offense to spell Heaps in certain situations. I really feel it would've given opposing defenses more to game plan for and definitely would have taken some pressure off of Heaps. I thought it was pretty apparent that Heaps was going to have the bulk of the reps anyway. I feel bad for Riley and hope to see him running Wildcat next year.

I welcome comedy, humor and laughter and if you read much of the various threads you know that I applaud every one's funny entries... Most are far better than mine and I say so. No "snarling" here. I draw the line at making fun of BYU student athletes...Today we found out that one of our own's season is over and you are making fun of him. I don't think I have ever done something like that and if I have, then shame on me. I think it is very poor form and invite you to consider the same.

I wonder if Riley will come back as a QB next year, or something else (Safety?). And if he's QB, does he fight Jake for the starter position again? Does he come back in ahead of Lark as the back-up? Lots of question for next season...

You can move Riley to safety and still use him correctly as a "situational" quarterback. Eric Weddle was very effective doing this.

Yeah I think it would be really awesome to use him like this---gotta love a guy that tough and you want to get someone like that on the field!

I wrote a long, proof-read post - but the system lost it. here is a quick un-proofread one.

It galls me that anyone would celebrate Nelson's injury or exit from his role. I saw the same nonsense when Steven Thomas went down. It is simple why imperfect players are on the field. We don't have any perfect ones to take their place. We have people we hold up as perfect, not having seen them play and thus being able to be in denial of their imperfection.

Please respect these guys for going out there and doing the best they can do. Becasue at that time, they are usually the best we have. I can imagine going out and taking a shoulder injury or a concusson for the team - and then having fans celebrate it.

You guys need to go be fans of another team or look up the word "fan" in the dictionary. You are a discrace to the university you cheer for. For the guy that has to quote himself becasue no one listens ot him - well you R what U R.

I loved seeing Uale get his chance - I know his family well - his dad is my Stake President - he gave up a scholarship at the U that they offered upon his return from his mission to walk on at BYU because he wanted to be here - like Riley wanted to be here. But I did not celebrate the injury to Thomas. We will have more injuries this year. I hope Thomas recovers and is good to go when needed. I hope Nelson comes back, gets a redshirt, and continues to do whatever is asked of him. He is a team guy.

Let's remember Nelson for doing what was asked of him, leading BYU to almost every one of the TDs and by far most of the points our pathetic offense was able to score even though Heaps has actually had more total playing time. Let's remember him as the guy who started the FSU game in hostile territory, with an injured finger on his throwing hand, played through that, injured his shoulder, tried to come back out and let's forget that he threw a pick in the end.

And yes, it took the Seminoles a quarter to adjust to Heaps. My best friend's son plays for UW -andhe indicated tha tthe 2 QB system gave UW problems to defend as well. Maybe it, for the time being, anyway, kept things from being even worse than they were. We will never know. But RIley Nelson did what was asked of him an dkept fighting as BYU fans labelled him a loser and said he was no good before he ever got his chance.

You miss my point--I think it wrong to make fun of an injured BYU student athlete, clever or not. Make fun of me if you want--call me a snarling Buffalo (I did not know Buffalos snarled by the way Italics) if you want--but to make fun of someone who has gone down and for the season--that's just wrong

This post makes me feel so guilty and dirty inside....anyway you can set me up with a meeting with President Uale so I can confess my unspeakable transgressions against your short sighted self righteous opinion of what a true fan is?

I love the "fan" police and I love the self righteousness. I simply said what others had been thinking. My opinion is that many cougar faithful are elated that Heaps gets his chance and that Riley is not imposing on BYU's QB tradition. Riley's shoulder will heal and I hope he comes back next year and contributes mightily in a different capacity. My opinion is that if Riley starts BYU suffers and I care more about BYU than Riley's short term injury. This is a good opportunity for BYU and Heaps to turn the season around.

Remember, U R what U R....a BYU fan that, if not careful, could be snatched up into the next life because of your higher standards. Thanks very much U.

Yep, heaven forbid that anyone point out that something is in poor taste, that's SO self-righteous. Oh brother.

Ummm... his shoulder got hurt and he needs surgery. He didn't die. Let's wait til after he's dead to give him sainthood. ;)

And it was a little unnecessary to namedrop in there. "You guys should be ashamed of yourselves... You are the worst people ever... I know Uale's dad, he is my Stake President, so I am excited to see him play. Oh yeah, and die a slow and terrible death, all of you. And, as I've also mentioned before, my best friends son plays for UW.

Riley got plenty of chances, but this is a eulogy, right? Like all eulogies, we don't have to actually insert fact.

He got hurt, and will be sorely missed on the roster. But let's not jump to personal attacks, on either side.

You can only be offended if you are looking to be offended. He was joking and it was in all honesty pretty clever. Everyone knows RIley is a good kid, there was no ill will get over it.

Amen to this, it was hilarious...and from what I've seen of Riley, he would've laughed if he heard it.

THIS QUOTE

"Makes you wonder if Nelson and Heaps would have rotated all game long against FSU without the injury? Or if Nelson would have taken over again, just like in the Air Force game? The very thought makes me shudder. Unless Gman is right: http://twitter.com/GurneyTBS/status/25154496742" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . I must be a bad person because in a way this makes me very happy. The coaches are forced to make the right decision now, without worrying about hurt feelings. This helps the starting QB grow faster, and the OL/WRs/TEs adjust faster."

The "in a way this makes me very happY" above which I believe came from MARS and the one from the guy who quotes himself were mostly what I was referring to more so than the non throwing shoulder joke, which I also thought was in questoinable taste.

It is probably not the best form to go quoting yourself, but I'm not sure anyone reads my posts so here is what I said after the AFA game.

Pretty sad when I had the thought a couple of times today that if Riley keeps putting his head down like that he's going to get injured or get a concussion minimum, followed by the thought, "hmm, that wouldn't be all that bad if Riley got a concussion right about now." I'm probably not the only one that thought that either. QuarterbackU

And the quote above from QBU quoting himself takes the cake!
