Silencer - everyone that reads your latest post is laughing out loud. Obviously Mckay is playing terrible, but he is not flipping people off, talking Shhhhhhh the whole game when he is clearly getting owned, and he hasn't been in the doghouse constantly for bad decisions. As far as getting a lot more balls, last year he might have gotten more, but the ones thrown to him he caught. I cant say the same for your boy oneill.

Botkin - yep like I said the problems started long before BYU, blame parents, coaches, uncles, friends, Oneill, there are a lot of faults, I'm sure his coaches let him do whatever he wanted in high school. But he is now 20 or 21 and he has to pay for his choices. Also I played basketball with him this summer, he is terrible. Strong as hell, but a terrible basketball player. Lastly being a good wide receiver is more than being athletic, its about hands, route running, intelligence. Oneill may be a better athlete than all of our other receivers but he is open less, and makes more mistakes when the ball does come his way.

I mean, sure, he isnt the easiest player to deal with, BUT...you cannot tell me Luke Ashworth is a better WR then OC? OC is probably the best "ATHLETE" I have ever seen in my life.

Play any position in football, can punt, can kick, can throw the ball 80 yards...can do ridiculous dunks, can shoot, can play hoops, can play soccer, can bomb a baseball, dominated FLORIDA track.

I want him to be used to his full potential, not be treated like he isnt wanted.

Mike Botkin

Ability is one thing, but so are results. Ashworth is obviously no where near the athlete the OC is, but he has had better results as a receiver. We have had many receivers come to BYU with no where near the athleticism or talent as OC, but they had a lot better results. One of them, Ben Cahoon, still dominates the CFL to this day and he graduated in 1996. Football is a mental game in addition to being physical game. Maybe some of OC's skills haven't translated into an ability to get open against the defenses he faces. Part of the reason his stats haven't been good his first two seasons is he was playing on the opposite side of the field from Dennis Pitta and Austin Collie who received the majority of passes from Max Hall (I sometimes wondered if Hall knew there was a left side of the field...).

OC has never struggled with the physical nature of the game. He is a great blocker. On kick off returns he runs very hard (sometimes with the ball property secured...). But for whatever reason he has never worked into the BYU system to get very many receptions.

In my opinion he is playing on the wrong side of the ball. He would be lighting teams up as a safety and BYU should have moved him there after his Freshman year.

Transferring is a bad idea at this point. He loses this year (not just two games), must sit out a year, and then he has one year to play in a new system where he may or may not florish. If his dream is to go to the NFL and he truely has the ability to play there, they will find him. It doesn't matter if sat the bench because he was in the coaches dog house for four years. NFL scouts find the talent and sometimes take risks. Matt Cassell never started a game in college and yet was drafted by the NFL when the reigning Heisman winning quarterback didn't get drafted. However, no one takes chances on people that don't have the right attitude. If OC is a cancer in the locker room it won't matter what school he plays for. His playing days will end with his eligibility.

Botkin, obviously you care deeply about OC and want what's best for him. It's apparent that the Andersons are not your favorite guys. Yet, they steered OC to BYU and then it was the staff at BYU that sold OC on going to BYU. Natural ability and on the field performance are two different things. OC may well be one of the most gifted athletes you have played with, but once you get to college, that's true about most of those that are given scholarships as compared to their friends they played with. It's obvious OC is struggling right now. It can't be for a lack of playing time because he's seen the field since day one of his freshman season. He's been a 2 year starter now and yes, many of think he's a better talent than Ashworth, but it's time to get results on the field. Austin Colllie worked himself into an NFL receiver. CHambers has more talent, but ne's not anywhere close to where Collie was his last and junior season with BYU. He can get to the next level, but it takes more than mere talent to get there. Hopefully he'll use this time out to rededicate himself to improving his play and show us why we all want him on the field as a BYU player.

Craig- No doubt Ty was a baller. Ive watched his tapes. Dude could fly. lol

Lets just say, nobody wanted to cover him or Justin during Teacher/Student 7 on 7.

I will stand by the fact that OC is the best overall sports athlete I have ever seen.

I know Brandon personally. OC is twice the athlete he was.

OC will never be a tireless worker. He doesnt have it ingrained in him. It was never expected of him throughout his life. In Middle school, he was 6'1 190 pounds and dominated every kid who was 5'5 100....in HS, he was 6'3 205 and all the coaches knew if he left they were screwed. Nobody told him to workout....he worked hard on his own. But, not like he wouldve if he wouldve had guidance from a coach. Heck, I dont even think he picked up a bench bar until he commited to BYU and they sent him a workout packet.

...and by the way, he has what we called "retard strength"...dude could go in on Monday and throw up 175...then 4 days later come back and throw up 240.

If he set his mind to it, he did it.

He didnt have to practice hard(nobody on the team did) but especially him. Because his 40% was better than everybody elses 100%. So, he doesnt know the day in and day out GRIND.

Dont get it twisted though. He worked hard on his own, he spent lots of days throwing with teh QB when everybody else went home. BUT..what I am trying to say is...it was never developed in him to work how he(and the whole team) shouldve.

1 of either 2 things happened...

BYU overlooked all of OCs "problems"...

or....

....It wasnt told to them and/or they didnt do their research.

I couldnt' agree more CP; except at some point the truly great players and individuals stop blaming everyone else around them and start taking responsibility. No one got OC in the doghouse but OC. And no one can get him out of the doghouse but OC.

If this thread is about the suspension, then why aren't we hearing even the slightest amount of contrition from the OC camp? If this were my son, I'd have him scrubbing toilets and delivering Broncos dry cleaning, whatever it took to get on the right side. Instead, all I'm hearing is excuses.

Winners know how to make the best of any situation. Losers make excuses. It's not just true on the field, but someday when he has to actually work for a living, it's just as true.

I've never met a successful person that believed that it was everyone elses fault but their own.

and Oneill is a better OVERALL ATHLETE then all of those guys.

[Following up from Botkin's assumption of only two possible reasons for the current situation]...or perhaps there is a third explanation. BYU sees a talented but "raw" athlete that needs some supervision and discipline instilled in him to turn him into an outstanding receiver and he doesn't put in the effort to utilize the help available to him. If I had a future NFL receiver opposite me on the field I might utilize him for any advice and suggestions etc. I doubt any of the BYU fraternity of former players would shun a current player asking for help to become a better on-field and off-field player. Here's hoping OC makes the best choice and sticks with BYU and becomes a better man as a result of the situation.

Tell Max Hall, Jordan Pendleton, Bryan Kehl, or Austin Collie that LDS players don't play with emotion All of them are or will make NFL paychecks and OC will still be the "best athlete you've ever seen in your life.... and still broke."

There's emotion and then there's stupidity. There's talent and then there's talent*work ethic.

If you're blaming Tyler Anderson and others for letting every bad behavior by OC slide; then maybe right now you should be praising Bronco Mendenhall for putting his foot down. This might actually be the crossroads that OC needs in his life; assuming he makes the correct decision.... and walking away from problems he created isn't the right decision and it never will be.

Dude, I grew up in Southern California, a place that has produced probably more top tier athletes than your vaunted Florida. Don't assume that because I am a BYU fan and grad that I grew up in Utah only. I've played against guys who've gone on to play pro ball, football, and basketball. I've played against guys who've won Olympic gold. And all of them have told me, after they were the best athlete in their field, that it took alot more than talent to get where they were. It took deterimination and dedication to rise to the top.

OC may have the talent, but he's playing against others now who were just as talented coming out of high school, and not all of them are from Utah. And as I've said before, I want to see this young man produce on the field and be a great player. It's time for him to recognize he's got to work for recognition now.

Football is about catching the damn ball, getting open every once in awhile, not fumbling when you do get a chance to have the ball, not getting suspended, and not pissing in the wind for 3 straight years. I guess talking **** and not doing anything on the field for three straight years is what its all about. Good job man.

You guys who are making excuses for Chambers will be the reason he fails if he does. True friends encourage each other to work harder to succeed, not quit and go home when things get hard. Chambers is a great athlete, but there is a reason he is suspended and it has nothing to do with his talent. If Chambers wants to succeed, he needs to make whatever wrong he got suspended for right and become stronger for it. If he quits and transfers, I will guarantee you that he will NEVER see the nfl. I have never seen a guy quit and make it to the NFL...Never. BYU is the school he chose and needs to be the school he succeeds at. If he can't succeed at BYU, he will not succeed elsewhere.

Love all the new Chamber posters. Thanks for the input and welcome to the board.

OC has clear talent, and I completely understand why he might feel under-utilized or even hurt by rules and by QB issues. But that's not the point at all. This is OC's chance to really show what he can do. Off the field. When it's hard. Right now. You don't give up and make the NFL by giving up when it's hard. You get to the NFL by playing your role and being the best at it. Fahu Tahi did it without huge numbers and so does every lineman we send to the NFL. OC can still do that.

Mad about only four balls? SO WHAT? Austin Collie only got 4 balls thrown his way by the best QB in the game just this last Sunday. Four balls. That's a success because he caught all four and is arguably Manning's most reliable set of hands. Now imagine if AC is not there because he's suspended. Garcon drops half the balls that's thrown his way, Wayne can't play every down, and Clark is a TE. I don't care what kind T. Owens/ OchoCinco talent you have. As soon as you're suspended, you don't get ANY balls. ZERO. NFL knows that. Just look at TO? How long did TO sit before a team finally decided to take yet ANOTHER chance on him. He's got a ton of talent but teams know he's a rule-breaker and never played for a 'team' in his life. He sat out a whole YEAR because he is 'me' 'me' 'me'.

but i don't think OC is like that. I think he just forgot for a moment that BYU is having some qb issues and that they NEED him now more than ever to step up (and actually CATCH all four of those balls) but more importantly be a leader of the team. It doesn't matter how tall, how fast, or how much talent OC has if he can't help his team. There will always be rules wherever OC goes and transferring doesn't change that. Only OC can fix that.

BYU wants OC here. The fans want OC here.

we want him to help keep our offense on the field so we can throw it to him more so that we can get a few of those highlight reel catches of his both INBOUNDS and on Top 10 ESPN. But mostly I think he should stay cause I think it's what Momma Chambers wants too.

Im sure he gets hell from his closets friends instead of excuses I believe botkin that's what Florida people do if you screw up your gonnna hear about it, since you know so much tell me why he was suspended and tell me the real reason dont give me that bs that bronco is trying to pull to cover his butt in fire, it's okay chambers I believe in you even if no one else will out here, you knew we were gonna love ya then hate kiddo, such a sad thing to see well we know byu won't be getting anymore big time wr's for awhile hell maybe even qb's too if we keep it up at this rate
